[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,310,true] It had been a long day for Sophie. Holly had been up early, sometime just before dawn, due to a nightmare. So Sophie had sat up with her, trying to sooth the little girl. While Holly had eventually fallen back into slumber, Sophie did not. Instead she had sat on the couch holding Holly for a while, before shifting her so she could get up and make breakfast for Nate, then pack him a lunch. Which he had forgotten. She was used to early mornings though, so that wasn’t the problem. It was more of an emotionally draining day. Between fighting with Nate on the phone, and Holly getting upset at the fact Luke was at work. Honestly, Sophie was just exhausted. Holly was bathed and in bed, which meant Sophie could relax- and she couldn’t think of a better way to relax. Curled up next to Luke, her head nestled into his chest, blanket over her legs, watching Mary Poppins. Or well, dozing as Luke watched Mary Poppins..

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,310,true] And how old are we? It was his only response to Sophie's excited face as she uncovered the DVD for their viewing pleasure this evening. He pulled the woman closer against him as she rested on his chest, planting a soft kiss on the top of her head. Apparently they weren't old enough to stop enjoying Disney movies together as Luke's doubt in the film seemed to fade away as Dick Van Dyke's opening number graced the screen. And apparently, they weren't old enough to actually stay awake through movies either, judging by Sophie's dozing. Softly, he his fingers traced her arm as he held her, chin now resting on the top of her head with his gaze fixed on the screen. "Hey Opie," a few minutes had passed before he whispered to her, eyes parting the screen to look down on her tired, yet enchanting figure, "You ever wonder why that guy just happens to have a cannon sitting on his roof?"

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,310,true] He nodded, eyes still transfixed on the screen as she spoke as if what she had said was the most logical statement he'd ever heard. It had almost always been like that when it came to Sophie, though. Ever since they were kids, she could tell him that the sky was falling and hell knows he'd believe her. She was his best friend and as such, she was infallible. "I'll just have to steal you his..." Luke spoke slowly, mind still keeping track of the screen as he quelched the skip in his chest as she nestled closer into him, "Just doesn't seem right to have some eighty something year old wielding some cannon in town all willy-nilly." His flitted his hands in the air as he said the last word, furrowing his brow and entertaining the thought a little more about theiving from the old man. "In all honesty, it'd probably count as community service to get it off him. Old people are atrocious drivers - can't imagine they should be manning any firearms alone a thundergun." It was almost comical at how serious he was - but then again, Sophie wouldn't mind. After all these years, she was still the only person he could freely flow his thoughts to his mouth infront of and he doubted this would ever change. "There's certainly gotta be some kind of permit, at least..."

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,310,true] Sophie couldn’t help but laugh gently at his thoughts towards the cannon. Most people would probably raise an eyebrow and wonder if he was actually serious or just joking. However Sophie knew he was serious, which was what amused her most. She loved how serious Luke could be about seemingly ridiculous things. It was something that ran in the family actually, as Nate was almost always serious. Somehow though, it wasn’t amusing. A pang of guilt stabbed Sophie’s stomach. Was she too hard on her husband? Though, Nate wouldn’t like being laughed at, while Luke welcomed it. Parting herself from his chest, she leaned up and pressed a kiss to his nose. “Your mind is adorable, just so you know.” Grinning, she moved to rest her chin on his shoulder to watch the screen. “I think he might be really upset if you stole the cannon though. Maybe you should just pick me some flowers instead.”

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,310,true] There was a very distinct warm sensation in his face as she kissed his nose, then an odd tightening of his chest and some weird squishy thing in his stomach. You think after all these years he would have grown accustomed to Sophie's harmless affectionate gestures. His body didn't think they were harmless. Or well, hoped they weren't. He hoped they weren't. But they were. "I don't know how you can settle for flowers when I'm offering cannons, here, Opie," he spoke lowly, moving his head ever so slightly to look at her, whilst avoiding the natural magnetism that came along with having such a beautiful woman so close, "How about...I dunno, a cannon that shoots flowers?" Now there was a visual. Sophie would look beautiful showered with flower petals. Just flower petals - he bit the inside of his lip and looked back towards the screen for some PG inspiration, "Holly would go absolutely nuts for that."

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,310,true] Her affections were innocent. Of course they were. She was married. Only..The young woman took just about every chance she saw to show Luke some affection- and then some. Which perhaps bordered on the side of being just a little inappropriate. It was easy to reason away her affections though, they were best friends, and Sophie had always been an affectionate person. Still though, there were people who saw the way they interacted as a lot more than innocent friendship. Their relationship was complicated though, that was all. Smiling, Sophie nuzzled his shoulder. “Holly would love everything you gave her ukie. She’s crazy about you.” So was Sophie, to be honest. However that went unsaid. Saying it could open a subject that really needed to stay silent for the sake of everyone’s heart. It was just easier not to think about how she felt for Luke. Easier to ignore those that still thought they belonged together.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,310,true] "Hm...maybe." It was true. Holly was crazy about him. She near worshipped the ground that he walked on - but it would be a lie to say that he wasn't biased himself. As far as he was concerned, his neice was a complete and total angel. Infallable. Could do no wrong just like her mother. Luke let himself smile for a moment before looking down at Sophie. It only made sense that the most beautiful woman he knew had created the thing he loved most. Sure, a small part of him used Holly's infatuation with him for his own device, although he'd never admit it. It seemed too deviously evil to admit out loud that a part of him deep down flailed with joy at the fact that he had Holly around his finger pretty much as his own since his brother had gotten Sophie. Too evil indeed. And he was far from the malicious kind of guy. Taking a deep breath, he rested his cheek on her head, continuing to watch the children's movie before speaking again a few moments later, "You remind me of her, y'know. Mary Poppins. Except less...I don't know. Bitchy."

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,310,true] "Well, y'know...uh..." Luke didn't really expect her to frown at the statement, his heart sinking a little as she looked up at him for some kind of explanation. Then again, the statement itself wasn't really well thought out, but more of a generalization about the kind of person Sophie versus Mary Poppins herself. "I dunno. I mean, just look at her," He nodded to the TV kind of off handedly as if Sophie hadn't been watching the whole time, an effort to stall as he collected the first few thoughts that came to mind, "She's pretty hot. In that, respectable, wine and dine kind of way. Beautiful, even. Not as much as you but..." The man smiled, looking down at her, realized it was a little inappropriate, gave a nervous smile, then continued, "Ha. Well, y'know. I mean, she's great with kids. They're just magnetized to her. And she's so...jovial. And kind. Yet really firm about what's best. Because she knows whats best. She just kind of has this magical aura about her that draws people to her, probably because her core values are just so sincere and altruistic. She's just so...lovable."

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,310,true] “... Luke..” Sophie breathed. She knew he was describing Mary Poppins. At the same time though, it was clear to both of them that it was how he felt about Sophie. It was... She couldn’t even describe it. It was like seeing herself new from his eyes, and she couldn’t help blushing deeply. Without thinking, she reached her hand up to his cheek. Stroking the somewhat rough skin of his cheek gently. She loved the feel of his stubble against her fingers. Swallowing, she leant in. Her lips hovering dangerously close to his. It would be a lie if she said she didn’t consider it- kissing him. Instead though, her nose pressed against his in a highly intimate way- almost as though they were locked in a passionate kiss. She stayed there for an excruciating length of time. Stuck in the bitter sweet emotions that had sprung inside her. Being so close to him was intoxicating, and set her heart racing. Kindling something inside her that was forced to stay dormant. And yet, at the same time she felt guilty, like she was betraying the vows she had made to her husband. The moment was so gut wrenching Sophie felt as though she could cry. Cry for herself, cry for Luke. Cry for what could have been for them.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,310,true] There was something so empowering to be a man and have such a beautiful woman stroke the forming stubble on his chin. It was a feral nature and as Sophie found herself nose to nose, her lips above his own - this feral nature became his greatest enemy. The hand that one sat around her had repositioned itself onto her lower back, softly pulling her forward against him as the opposite hand found her jawline. His heart seemed to slow down as his palm rested on her neck, his fingers tangling themselves into her brown locks as the presence of her sweet breath on his lips became apparent. No words came to him, his eyes closing to deny the temptation staring back at him, heart rattling around in his chest now. Softly, he pressed his forehead against her own, lips parting for just a moment then closing again, searching for the words to break the undeniable chemistry. "Sophie..." it was all he could whisper before breaking. Slowly, his slid his nose to the side of hers like a kiss, letting his lips hover over her own for a brief moment to experience the sensation his close proximity had to offer. It was short live, Luke instead sliding his jaw to past hers, their faces cheek to cheek and his face buried into her hair. The intimacy had waned a bit, but only about as much as an ice cube could cool down a hot plate. His fingers still dug at her, pulling her towards him asking for more.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,310,true] A small whimper, almost inaudible, passed her lips as Luke moved. Part of her knew it was the best thing to do, that they were playing with fire. She couldn’t help feel a stab in her chest at the loss of his lips so close to hers. It was as close as she thought she would ever allow herself get to kissing him, and she wasn’t ready for the excruciating pleasure of almost kissing him to end yet. However besides her soft whimper, she made no sound of protest. Instead she followed his suit and buried her face into the curve of his neck. Breathing in his scent deeply. God, just the smell of him was enough to make her dizzy. Her hand slipped from his face, fingers drawing slow lines down his neck. Her breath was shaky, and she knew he would be able to feel her heart pounding against his chest, but she didn’t care in that moment. Her other hand closed around his wrist, before slowly moving up his arm. Massaging his muscles ever so slightly as she reached his toned upper arm. She didn’t know what she was doing, or what she hoped to gain from any of this. She just... wanted to know what it felt like, what he felt like...

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,310,true] Sophie was being adventurous. Was this a sign? Usually she would have whimpered and backed away by now, normally he was the one depending on her to be the responsible figure. The one that kept things held together. The one that kept up this charade. He could feel the front of his jeans stir in response to the nearly inaudible sound she made as he moved. She wanted this, was she scared of this? It was hard to keep his end of the bargain with his lips so close to her neck, the man allowing himself to softly kiss the area beneath her jawline. It was harmless, he told himself, completely harmless and it wasn't as if he didn't all ready know what she tasted like. It was just for a brief moment, before he pulled away, the hand on her back tracing its way up her spine and then back down again, admiring the anatomy of the most beautiful woman he'd ever met. Ignoring the obvious temptation to go in for a second taste, he instead focused elsewhere, his hand sliding it's way respectfully slowly beneath the edge of her shirt to touch the skin of her lower back. If she was any other woman, this tension would have given him just cause to rip it off of her. But of course this tension wouldn't exist with any other woman, for this was Sophie. His best friend and his brother's wife.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,310,true] Sparks. All it took was just the softest kiss to her neck. And sparks. She exhaled, with it came another gentle whimper. Her own lips were close to his skin, yet not close enough. She wanted this. But she couldn’t. She’d allowed herself to indulge because she was weak, but she wouldn’t. She couldn’t. Lukas was worth more than that. He deserved something more than what she could offer him. There was no way she could stand to live with herself if she made Lucas into an adulterer. She was selfish, she knew it. Pulling away, the petite brunette untangled her arms from her brother in law. “I... I shouldn’t have.. I mean, I just... Sorry..” Standing up from the couch, she closed her eyes. “I need to go check on Holly.” Holly was fine, why wouldn’t she be? She just wasn’t sure she could trust herself anymore.
