-- Annalia Mae Rusia !
-- NAME: Annalia Mae Rusia -- NICKNAMES: Lia -- AGE & BIRTHDAY: 14 & December 14 -- BIRTH PLACE: New York -- ORIENTATION: Unknown -- OCCUPATION & SCHOOL GRADE: Freshman -- PLAYED BY: Shailene Woodley
-- PERSONALITY !
-- RESERVED: Annalia might go around talking to people that she doesn’t know well, but that hardly means she enjoys doing it. She finds it extremely difficult to get out of her shell, and she’s constantly in mortal fear that she’s only making a fool out of herself by even being alive, the poor girl. -- THRILL-SEEKING: But if it wasn’t for talking to knew people, trying new things, being absolutely forced out of her shell, how would she get the thrill she so badly wants? What Annalia wants is to live a little, and for others to look at her and see something other than the shy little girl she so often seems to be. But when it’s danger she wants, it’s generally danger she’ll get. Most are often surprised to see this side of her. -- MANIPULATIVE: Yes, it’s hard to imagine there’s such a devious brain underneath that thin exterior, but Annalia can be as calculating as a mathematician if she needs to be. She has an extremely selfish, vindictive side, and those who cross her have a tendency to be caught sorely unaware.
-- LOVES: Caramel Frappes, rarely seen without one. Ritz, her cat. Chocolate. Party invitations. Hanging with the older crowd. Getting into trouble and not getting caught. Reading. Writing poetry. Causing havoc. Being the cleverer one. -- HATES: Plastic girls (don’t they know how to appreciate REAL beauty?) Backstabbers. Spicy foods. Sports, especially basketball. Weird-looking “pretty” people. Soap opera dramas. Pointless school assignments. School in general. Being seen out alone. Coffee.
-- HISTORY !
When Annalia was nine years old, her parents filed for divorce.
She cried for a few days, but quickly got over it. Her dad had been the one to move out, and when she was old enough to think much of it, she realized that she'd never been too close to him to begin with, and that there was no real point to missing him. Life quickly got back on track for her, and life with her mother was hardly anything more than normal. Her mother never pressured her to do much, and Lia liked it that way -- she didn't much care for socializing.
So, as it was, Annalia grew up like your typical, reserved child; she stuck her nose in a book, and maybe expressed her feelings with poetry. She'd been generally liked by her classmates and peers, but she never bothered to make any connections with them. The divorce had made her feel that things are simpler when you don't get too close. It wasn't that she felt that her father had abandoned her, but the divorce in general had come as a shock to her, a child who learned a bit too early that even the things that are supposed to be strong can shatter into pieces. She told herself that she was grateful that she hadn't had much of a relationship to be damaged to begin with.
But as she began to move away from her childhood, she discovered that it wasn't enough, and that she was lonely. She began to feel a growing need to soak herself in attention, as opposed to turn a blind eye. She wanted to feel important, as though she was capable of making a connection. Annalia was tired of reading stories in her book about the man who always got the girl -- she wanted to be the girl. She wanted to be something. Reading was no longer enough for her. She had to live it.
It was a little late to try and change her life in Boston with her mom, but luckily, her parents made no real objections to her going to live with her father, at least for a little while. Annalia had never really been involved in much in Boston, so the transition to Capeside, where her father lived, was easy. And she could only hope that it would prove as good a place as any to start living on the edge.
-- SAMPLE ! All week long, Quinn hadn't been able to shake this feeling.
It'd been nearly impossible to describe how she'd felt in words. "It's like an entirely new feeling and experience that I've ever known," she'd scrawled in her notebook at school one day. "It's like a feeling of dread and of fear, like a mouse being chased by a cat. And I think I'm the mouse, but I feel like the cat. That fear goes hand in hand with pure ecstasy."
She'd considered how she felt about him. And she hadn't really come up with any answers. She didn't find his swearing attractive, or his involvement with drugs for that matter. On the other hand, his smooth-talking was a definite bonus. But it seemed that none of it had to do with him himself. It was purely the way he had made her feel.
Not to mention, it was nice to feel like she'd found a way to wrap him around her finger; if only for a few moments. Talk about empowering.
And at the end of the week, she'd found herself nearing the very spot she'd met him, wondering if there was a way to deny the obvious fact that she hoped to run into him again.
Quinn had spent hours in her dorm room trying to make a decision. Looking back on her previous encounter made it obvious that she'd be willingly putting herself in a situation she had meant to avoid. The appearance of his brother (it had to have been his brother) had miraculously rescued her from a soon-to-be-sticky situation. And yet, she was planning on just thrusting herself into it yet again.
Not to mention, the party had been ridiculous. She hoped never to see him like that again. Well, unless she got a little doped up herself... But she didn't plan on doing that anytime soon. Because, as she recalled, that feeling she'd had when she first met him was invigorating. And Quinn couldn't understand why she would want to jeopardize that with any kind of drug.
It was hard to come back after seeing him like that. But something Damien had said rang in her head: "He's really much better sober. And not in dealer mode, I hope you've seen a decent side of him."
And she had to wonder if there was an even better side to him than what she'd already seen -- that wasn't something she could resist.
And so she'd come to the conclusion that, for that wild thrill, and that feeling of being the most attractive thing in the world, it might be worth making a few moral compromises.
Well, she still had plans to keep her virginity intact. At least one kind of virginity, anyway.
As the sun began to set beside the lake, she saw him over where they'd met. She was hesitant about approaching him, but she did anyway -- not that she could bring herself even to say hello.

-- PENDING ! You're on the right track. There are just a few things I want to say. Of course, we've already talked about the playby situation. So that's no big deal. Just make sure when you decide to have your application mirror that choice (as in, just change the playby: whoever to whoever you choose). Other than that, our minimum word count is 350. Your sample almost, but doesn't quite meet that. Do you perhaps have another? It doesn't matter what character or genre it's from. It's just a formality. Other than that, I'd really just like to know MORE about the character. I mean, not that it's absolutely necessary. But perhaps why she's reserved and why she wants to break out of her shell, or even in her history, why her parents are divorced and what she feels about it. Or even why, of all places, they chose Capeside. It doesn't have to be excessive. Just a smidge more and you're golden.
