PAUSING AT THE bottom floor of her apartment block, she took a moment to stare up at the four flights of stairs separating her from her bed. Wondering briefly what had possessed her to agree to such an arrangement, as well as how handy an elevator would be right now. Which was unusual for her, she normally loved these stairs, ran up them, or danced, jumped even, but she was in no mood for any of that right now. The day had started out so great too, she’d gone and visited her parents, got to see all her brothers, and found out the oldest, and closest to her not just in age, was planning to propose. Which was fantastic news. Truly. His girlfriend, Leila, was wonderful and totally perfect for him. But going ring shopping with him that afternoon and listening to him gush about her, while adorable, seemed to just underline to her how far from her plans to get married and have kids she was. She was twenty seven and her longest relationship to date had lasted four months.
AT THIS RATE she was going to be the old lady living with fifty cats.
SHIVERING A LITTLE at the thought she sighed and began the long, rather depressing assent to the forth floor. Digging in her bag once she’d reached the door she pulled out her keys and unlocked the door, stepping in the, unusually quiet, apartment and shutting the door behind her. Glancing around she frowned, wondering where everyone was, before shrugging and heading for the fridge. Grabbing a spoon and a tub of ice cream from the freezer she pulled the lid off and continued on toward her room, shoving a heaped spoonful of ice cream into her mouth as she did so. Noticing that emmetts door at which was across from hers was slightly ajar and peeked in, a flood of relief filling on seeing a pair of legs on the bed, she didn’t like being at home on her own. And not just because of all the horror movies she’d watched over the years. Pushing the door open she put her icecream down on the side table without a word, before joining him on the bed and nestling herself into his side, “ emmyyy. Im sad”

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,300] AFFY AS PRESLEY | I LOVED IT (: Emmett's day had been normal. Nothing particularly exciting, nothing worth mentioning, just an honest to goodness boring old day. He had heard the door open and close, and despite the horror movies he had to sit through with his roommates, he wasn't really worried, and the thought of calling out hello was past him, he was sprawled on his bed, busying himself by sketching away random doodles as per usual, when he heard his door opening further than it already was, and when he looked up, he saw his roommate, Presley Rhodes. If memory served him correctly, she had said she was going to visit family, or something, but Emmett hadn't really been paying much attention so he didn't really know. His first reaction was to smile up at her, until he noticed the tub of ice cream in hand and the frown settled on her pretty face. And his own expression changed from pleased to worried in no time. He tossed his sketchpad carelessly to the side and waited in silence as she put her ice cream down and crawled up to cuddle with him, deciding she was most likely going to tell him something before he asked, so he simply kept his mouth shut and waited.
And sure enough, she promptly did, with three words that could basically make anyone sad, when it came from Pres. "Aww." Emmett cooed sympathetically, his eyebrows knitting together. "We can't have that, now can we?" He wiggled around as to make himself a tad more comfortable and so that he could still see her face, and then he reached over stroked her hair softly. "Now then. What's the matter, luv?" Emmett asked gently, watching her carefully. It wasn't often that Presley was ever even a hint of upset, something must have happened, something terribly wrong. He had lived with her for a long while now, and he knew it for a fact, that Presley was not one to be brought down by just anything. He knew that every time he visited his family he got sad, too, but Presley never seemed to have that problem, she liked her family. Though then again, was there a person in this world that Presley genuinely didn't like? No one that Emmett knew of, anyway.

THIS WAS PROBABLY the main reason she’d decided to move in with five guys. It was almost always guaranteed that at least one of them would be home to snuggle with when she needed it. Which was most of the time. Luckily they we’re all very tolerant of her overly affectionate behavior and by now were more than accustomed to her invading their bedrooms at will. At this question she gave a slight shrug, “ oh nothing, honestly. Must be one of those mood swings ive heard so much about.. ” she offered, only managing to rouse a half smile, and not a very convincing one at that. This was ridiculous, she should be happy right now, beyond happy. And not just because she’d spent the afternoon looking at all sorts of pretty diamonds, one of which was now hanging around her neck. It was completely out of her budget and she’d had to dig into money she’d got from her grandmother in lieu of a birthday present this year, but it had made her feel better at the time. She was however, experiencing a little buyers remorse right now though, not enough that she felt the need to take it back, still, what did she need another ridiculously expensive piece of jewelry for? Burying her face into his shoulder she gave a sigh,“ fifty cats emmy. fifty cats. for company. that’s what ive got to look forward to.” she whined, before looking up at him suddenly, an anxious look on her face, “what on earth will I name them all?” yeah, that would be the part she’d worry about.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,300] AFFY AS PRESLEY | LOL I KNOW IT FEELS SO WEIRD! Emmett's eyebrows raised slightly when she told him that she was having a mood swing, and he smiled softly. "Mood swing, eh?" He asked quietly, giving her a disbelieving look as he glanced down and noticed the diamond hanging around her neck and wondered vaguely if that had anything to do with said mood swing. After all, it looked mighty expensive. But didn't diamonds usually make women happy instead of depressed? Though nothing that women did made any sense to Emmett, he wasn't about to deny it. But he also couldn't deny that that was was so interesting about them. But, he didn't say anything, waiting until she continued. And what she had to say was rather confusing, but half of what his roommate ever said was confusing anyway, so he was used to it by now. "That's a lot of cats." he said simply, as she looked up at him. "Name them all after me, obviously. Or you could be like Marlin from Finding Nemo and name them all after yourself. Except for one. Name that one Emmett." He threw his free hand up in the air in a "hello duh" way. "May I just ask what you're going on about, though? Because I have no idea what is going on right now." He leaned his head forward and rested it on Presley's forehead, grinning softly. Maybe when she explained it it would make more sense, though with Presley, you would never really know. At times her explanations left him more confused than he had been in the first place, to be quite honest.

TO HIS QUESTION she gave a slight shrug, “ that’s my story and im sticking to it…” she told him, ignoring the skeptical look on his face. She couldn’t really blame him for not believing her though, as far as her roommates were concerned Presley only had two settings, crazy and crazier. She didn’t do sad or depressed or moody. And her ridiculousness aside, they had lucked out in finding one of the few girls who didn’t get overly emotional over silly little things... Until now it seemed. Though to be fair, this wasn’t a little thing, not for Presley, she might have been blowing it way out of proportion right now, but being a mom was a big deal for her, it had been pretty much her life goal since she was a little kid. She couldn’t help but smile slightly at his words, while a lot of people would have cut straight to asking her why she was raving about cats, he actually took the time to answer her question, even if she did find his answer somewhat unsatisfying, “I don’t know.. ” she began, pulling her bottom lip through her teeth as she gave serious consideration to his suggestion, “ seems very conceited don’t you think?” she asked, looking at him with a slight frown, “ not to mention confusing. Though, if they all had the same name I wouldn’t have to worry about forgetting names.” she mused, more to herself at this point than emmett, “ im not that good at remembering names..” she added unnecessarily, he’d known her long enough to be well aware of this fact. His question drew her up short for a moment, she tended to forget people weren’t capable of mind reading, and thus, following her random tangents. Twisting the heart shaped diamond absently between her fingers she took a moment to gather her thoughts, explanations were generally something she failed at too, “ whats going on is I’m almost thirty em, thirty. And a long way from where I’d planned to be right now…”

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,300] AFFY AS PRESLEY | AHAHA ME TOOO Emmett only nodded slowly as she told him that that was her story, period. Okay, so he wasn't really surprised by that, to be honest. He was used to her stubborn and ridiculous ways by now. He just let it go, for now anyway. He grinned as she actually considered his suggestion, adding that she was no good with names, which he most certainly knew from experience. "No, I hadn't noticed at all.." He said, chuckling softly. "And maybe a little concieted, but if you just named them all Emmett, you could just say they were named after your most favoritest roommate in the whole entire world, am I right?" He said in a quite serious tone, though it was obvious by the way he wiggled his eyebrows suggestively and the fact that he'd never actually say something like that seriously that he was just joking. He narrowed his eyes slightly in confusion at her explanation, and slowly he nodded. "I see.. Thirty isn't so bad, though. Definitely not old maid status or anything. Where exactly were you planning on being at thirty?" He asked curiously, tilting his head to the side. Emmett had always been rather happy with himself, where he was in his life. Of course, his parents never were, but he was a generally pretty happy guy. He never really wanted to do anything that he wasn't already doing. His art was his life, nothing more, and nothing less. He was a simple guy with simple wants and needs, honestly. What could Presley possibly want? She was a beautiful, successful woman, with a bright future, after all. He didn't get it. But he wasn't going to argue it, either. Not unless her reasoning was really just stupid. Which he honestly doubted. Presley Rhodes was a lot of things, but stupid was most certainly not one of them. Maybe a little ditsy at times- she had her blonde moments, though didn't everyone?- but not stupid.

THE EXPRESSION ON HIS face as he declared himself her favorite roommate made it almost impossible for her not to laugh, but she managed it .. just. And pressing a hand to his lips she flashed him her most stern look, “ not so loud” she reprimanded, glancing around briefly before turning back to him, “ we don’t want to get it now. the others would be terribly jealous” she added, only managing to keep a straight face for a few more moments before grinning widely. Really, she couldn’t say that she had a favorite out of her roommates, they were all her favorite, just for different reasons. She’d been very fortunate to find such an amazing group of guys, A couple she’d known since they were kids, but most, like Emmett she’d only met when she’d moved in. It hadn’t taken her long to get to know them all however, and make friends. She raised her brows a little at him, as if to say ‘are you kidding me?’ when he told her thirty wasn’t bad. Thirty was bad. Thirty was like… the threshold between old and young, when you had to start growing up, or trying to. It was all downhill after thirty. “ like two kids in at least.. ” she paused, “ maybe three.. ” chewing on her lip she looked up at him, “ its so much harder than I thought. Falling in love. But it really needs to just.. hurry up and happen already. ” she gave a frustrated sigh, “ my younger brothers proposing. tonight. And I don’t even have a boyfriend… ” pausing, she frowned, adding, “ not that I can hold onto one for very long when I do.. ”

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,300] AFFY AS PRESLEY | c: Emmett only snorted as she agreed to his being her favorite, and chuckled slightly. "And we don't want that." He agreed, nodding. "I mean.. they might hurt this pretty face of mine." He shrugged as if it made perfect sense to him, and then he grinned again. He knew he couldn't possibly be Presley's favorite, there were so many of them, after all. He hardly was the one who had known her the longest, anyway, but she did seem like she liked him, at least. He grinned and shook his head as she gave him an exhasperated and disbelieving look. Honestly. Thirty was not terrible. It wasn't like she was wrinkly and gray, after all. She was still an attractive young woman, in Emmett's own personal opinion. He raised an eyebrow as she told him that she wanted to have at least two kids by now, and he smiled and chuckled softly at her exhasperation with love. He raised his eyebrows at her confession that her brother was proposing, and his eyebrows knitted together as he reached over and tousled her hair playfully. "Well, if you get too terribly desperate, I'll always marry you. Be your backup plan, eh?" He shrugged and grinned. "Come on, Pres, you're still young, beautiful, funny. You're not hopeless, I promise." He assured her very seriously. He really just didn't get how someone like Presley could have doubts about her future, when obviously it was bright. Brighter than he figured his was.
