* IT'S A LONG SHOT, BABY- - - i know it's true, but if anyone can make it
{I'm bettin' on me and you} - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Logan knew that his relief would be short-lived when she let his answer slide. If he still knew her like he used to, he knew she wouldn't let him get out of it that easy. But he was glad she let him get away with it for now. It bought him a little time, anyway. He wasn't ready to pour his heart out just yet. Right now he was perfectly content just sitting here and catching up. He was starting to feel like himself again. And he was glad she was starting to loosen up as well. Logan couldn't help but to let a hearty laugh escape his chest as she clapped her hands excitedly and squeezed him tight. 'Oh, I'm so proud of you, Logan!'. He could tell she was being genuine, and he couldn't help but feel a little relieved. He didn't know why, but for some reason he found himself caring about what she thought of him. She always made him want to be a better person, and he felt obligated to make her proud of what he had done with himself while she was gone.
"Well I'm glad you're impressed" he smiled, lifting an eyebrow and letting out another small chuckle. "You crack me up sometimes, you know that?" he asked, shaking his head at her. He'd always loved how she could find the excitement in everything. And he was glad to see that hadn't changed too much, even after what she had been through. It was her that had taught him to appreciate the small things, and he didn't know what he'd do if she'd lost that. His eyebrows arched a little when she told him her career choice. "A librarian?" he paused, pretending to contemplate it. "No, that makes sense I guess. I could see you pulling off those sexy librarian glasses." he smirked, obviously kidding with her. Not that he didn't mean it though. She could pull of anything, really. "I'm kidding. Not saying you wouldn't look good in them though." he winked playfully at her before giving in to a warm smile. "I'm happy you found something you like to do. It seems like the perfect job for you." he was being serious now, but the trace of a smile still lingered across his face.
It was good to be able to joke with her again. Right now it almost felt like nothing had changed between them. However, he was smart enough to know better. In fact, a lot of things had changed, he was sure. He wasn't a twenty-something anymore, and neither was she. He had matured quite a bit, and he knew she had as well. But he wasn't going to let that stop him from feeling the same way he had twenty years ago. As long as he had her, he was more than ready to make up for lost time. He peeked down to look at her and couldn't help but wonder what she was thinking. Did she feel the same way? He still had a lot of questions running through his mind. How long had she been here? Was she glad to be back? He didn't want to ruin the moment with a million questions, but he decided he couldn't wait any longer. Logan never did have that much patience "So, how long have you been in town?" he asked casually, stealing a glance down at her face again. He was just curious, but he also wanted to know how long she was planning on staying. He hoped she was here for good.
Logan wasn't a very open person, and Casey was really the only person he felt he could talk to. When she left, he had no one. Well, except for his dog. But who wants to be the creepy guy who goes into deep conversations with his dog? Twenty years of keeping everything inside had really taken his toll on Logan. But he was determined to keep living his life. It took him a while, but he found an outlet and stuck to it. That's what got him the position of head mechanic. He didn't know what it was, but there was just something about working on cars that made him feel at peace. It reminded him of his childhood, before his dad died and pulled everyone apart. He felt put together again, but there was still something missing. He didn't feel whole. Casey had taken a piece of him with her, and now that she was back, he finally felt complete again. He honestly didn't know what he would do if he had to loose her again. In fact, he didn't think he could deal with it a second time...[/blockquote] -- WORDS 803 -- TAGS Casey -- INSPIRATION I'm In - Keith Urban -- NOTES Ugh, I apologize for this one. [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,300] OUTFIT | CHAI AS LOGAN | III LIKED ITT (: Casey smiled again as Logan laughed at her clapping her hands. She couldn't help it, she was happy for his happiness, honestly. He deserved to be happy, he really did. A lot more than she did, she felt. She only grinned up at him again as he told her that he was glad she was impressed with him. Though, it was to be admitted, if nothing else, Casey was easily impressed by people. She liked to find the bright side in everything, though, no matter what. She thought of the glass as half full instead of half empty. But it was hard at times. Logan's happiness was definitely something she could find absolutely nothing wrong with.
Casey chuckled a little herself as she was told that she cracked him up. "Well, that's good, I think," Her smile softened. She did enjoy being thought of as amusing, she had to admit. Most people seemed to think that she didn't have a sense of humor, because she was a librarian and there were too many mean librarians around, it seemed, which she was not proud of. But she seemed to prove everyone wrong, fortunately. She waited quietly for a response, her eyebrows still raised as he mulled over her occupation, wondering if he had an opinion about it or not.
It was Casey's time to laugh heartily as he told her that she could pull off the sexy librarian glasses. Casey had never considered herself sexy. The idea was absolutely hilarious to her, thinking that someone thought she could be sexy. And the idea that she could full out pull off the "sexy librarian" look was just absolutely hilarious to her. "My glasses hang around my neck like an eighty year old woman's." She informed him in order to set the record straight, shaking her head and chuckling a bit longer. Honestly, he shouldn't tease her like that, she might just die of laughter, he didn't want her to do that, did he?
Casey smiled and nodded as he agreed that it was a good job for her. "I love it." She said eagerly, her eyes crinkling up at the corners. She was glad that he approved. Though you had to admit, there wasn't much reason for someone to disapprove of being a librarian, of all things. She looked back up when he kept talking, and she shrugged. "Not long." She said slowly, twisting her mouth to the side. "Just a few days." She continued, looking back down and playing quietly with her hair, twisting it between her fingers. "I'm not planning on leaving, if that's what you're getting at. Though.. I wasn't planning on leaving the first time, either. But this time I have three kids to keep me back." She smiled softly. And at least she was being honest about it, right? She didn't want to lie to him, not now, after all this time. He deserved the whole truth, even if it hurt, though whether that hurt her or him more was debatable.
But Casey didn't want to think about that. She had wasted far too much time thinking about hurt feelings and holding grudges. He hadn't been bitter with her after all, she was so very grateful for. She didn't know if she really believed he'd hold a grudge against her or not, it was against his nature, but at the same time, she probably would have hated herself if she was him, she had hated herself for a long time after she'd left him there all alone anyway. He may say that he didn't blame her, that he was okay, but that would never take away her guilt, how awful she felt about everything she had put him through. She couldn't help it. If he had gone through the emotional crap that she had, blaming himself, never being able to get it off his mind, she would never forgive herself.
But was she putting herself too far ahead of the truth? Did he really think she was worth all of the grieving she pictured? Was she exaggerating? She didn't know, she couldn't decide, she would like to think so but she never knew how highly she was placed in his priorities, if she was as high on the top of his list that he was on hers. It felt like she thought too highly of herself for this purpose, but if it was true? It was torture, not knowing, but how to bring that up without starting to cry, either because he didn't and she was upset that he didn't care as much as she did or he did and she put him through all of it. Which would be worse, though, she didn't know if she'd ever really know. |

* IT'S A LONG SHOT, BABY- - - i know it's true, but if anyone can make it
{I'm bettin' on me and you} - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Sitting here with Casey by his side, talking like they used to, Logan couldn't help but reminisce. Back in the day, they were quite a team. He still remembered their late night debates and the times when they pretended to be movie critiques. Casey almost always won, which normally would have bothered Logan if it had been any one else, but strangely he found out he didn't mind if she won. In fact, he almost enjoyed seeing the little smirk of pride she got at winning one of their petty arguments. It was oddly endearing. He wouldn't admit it, but sometimes he would let her win just so he could see it. Which was pretty ridiculous seeing as Logan hated to loose. He almost laughed to himself at the thought. He wondered what it was about this girl that made him act against his nature. When he was with her he was just instantly happy. She could turn his worse days into his best with just a single smile.
Logan nodded at what she said next. "It is, trust me." he smiled. There weren't a lot of people who could made Logan smile as much as she could. Add that to his list of things he loved about her. Casey let out one of her heartfelt laughs at his comments about the glasses and he couldn't help but laugh with her. 'My glasses hang around my neck like an eighty year old woman's'. He chuckled, his grin still stretched across his whole face. "Still hot" he said with a smirk. "But only on you..." he quickly added, realizing that saying eighty year old women were attractive was probably somewhat disturbing. He shook the thought and tuned into what she was saying next. He was glad she had found something that she loved to do. He could see it in her face and that made him happy. she deserved to be happy after everything she had been through.
Logan could see the apprehension in her face as she answered his next question, twisting her hair around her finger somewhat nervously. That habit of hers was a dead giveaway that she was debating what she would say next. It was odd how much he missed those stupid little things. 'Not long. Just a few days.' Strangely, knowing she had only been here a few days made Logan feel a little better for some reason. He wasn't sure why, really. Obviously he figured she visited her children first, which he didn't have any problem with. I mean, even Logan would put his family first. He was totally content with being her second priority. To him, just knowing that she cared enough to hunt down his address and come see him in person just days after her arrival made him feel like maybe he meant as much to her as she did to him. That thought alone was oddly comforting.
What she said next made him wonder if she really could read his mind. 'I'm not planning on leaving, if that's what you're getting at. Though.. I wasn't planning on leaving the first time, either. But this time I have three kids to keep me back.' Logan felt a little relief in hearing that she didn't plan on leaving. Although he felt a little hesitant about the second part of what she said. He knew she didn't mean it that way, but hearing that she had kids to keep her here this time made him wonder why he wasn't enough to keep her here the first time... he quickly shook the thought from his mind, angry with himself for thinking it. I guess he was still just a little more hurt than he thought he was. But he was determined to move past all of that. It wasn't worth upsetting Casey over. He was sure she had gone through enough without putting guilt on top of it.
It was a long time ago, and Logan's parents had always taught him to forgive and forget. So that's just what he planned to do. After all, a lot had changed since then. They weren't as young as they used to be, and it wasn't fair for him to bring up the past. He was ready to move on and see how it was going to play out now. "I'm glad to hear that." he said, forcing a small smile and holding her close. "Really, I am" he added quietly, clearing his throat before going on. "To be totally honest, I don't think I could bear to loose you again... his eyes shot down to the ground, focusing on anything but her. "I missed you, Casey". His voice was hushed now, wondering what she thought of all of this. He didn't know what he would do if she didn't feel the same way. Of course, he also didn't want to sound like he was trying to make her feel bad, because he wasn't. He just wanted her to know how much she meant to him.
"Would you like to go on a walk?" he asked suddenly, looking down to assess her face. As much as he enjoyed sitting her with her in his arms, he couldn't help but feel a little claustrophobic sitting inside on such a nice day. He was sure they still had plenty of catching up to do and he figured a nice walk was a good way to do that without sitting here with all of the tension in the air. Not to mention it had been a while since he'd had visitors and his house wasn't exactly the tidiest at the moment...

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,300] OUTFIT | CHAI AS LOGAN | I'M SO SORRY I DIDN'T REPLY, I HOPE IT'S OKAY<33 Casey just grinned as he smiled. She had really missed that smile of his. It was nice to know that some things never changed. Somehow it seemed that Logan hadn't changed at all. Which honestly, Casey felt a little bad about. She had changed so much. Coming back, what would he think about the new Casey? What if he ended up hating her anyway? It didn't seem possible now that they had began to talk again, but nothing was impossible, Casey had discovered over the years. She blushed and laughed as he insisted that it would still be hot, but only on her. Oh, he was ridiculous. Casey had never had too much self confidence, and he always seemed to make her feel better about herself. In a strange, slightly embarrassing and highly amusing way, that is. She never could understand how he managed to do that, but he always had done it one way or another. She never really reacted well to compliments, though, she would always just think they were trying to make her feel better. But Logan always seemed to genuinely mean it. She appreciated that. Even if it felt a little odd.
Casey's blonde head bobbed up and down slowly as she nodded quietly, unsure of what she should say now, as he said that it was good to hear that, and she bit her lip, looking down at her shoes. It made her feel bad to think that she had to reassure him that she wasn't going anywhere. It wasn't like she was planning on running away the first time! If she had been planning on it, she would have been sure to discuss it with Logan. Honestly. She talked about everything with him, once upon a time. She wished he could know that. But it felt weirder than anything to talk about something like that, telling him how much she had always .. liked him. Now she was sure she just sounded like a thirteen year old. After all, to quote one of her favorite Disney movies, (which also, coincidentally, she cried at every time she watched it) nearly everybody gets twitterpated in the springtime. Well, she was pretty sure she'd met him in springtime, anyway, it was a long time ago. Oh, but it was so hard to discuss. She wished she had the words to reassure him about all of this. But she was more likely to eat pickled figs, which sounded absolutely disgusting when she thought of it, than to ever figure out how to say what she felt around Logan Harding.
But when life offers you a dream so far beyond any of your expectations, it's not reasonable to grieve when it comes to an end. Casey had heard that somewhere, in the Twilight books, she was pretty sure, and it seemed to be fitting enough with her situation. Logan had been that dream, she had been the one to run away from it. She shouldn't be making such a fuss of it, honestly, she knew she shouldn't be. It was all her fault that the dream was over, anyway, and to be honest, she was probably just dragging him down with her. She looked up in surprise as he told her he couldn't bear to lose her again, and her expression softened as he looked back down and she hugged him again tightly. "I missed you too, Logan." She said in reply, hushed as well. As she pulled away she gave him a quick peck on the cheek, smiling softly and blushing again, not sure why exactly she had done that, but it had seemed a fitting gesture at the time being.
She blinked in surprise as he asked if she would like to go on a walk with him, but slowly a smile crept across her features. "A walk?" Casey repeated curiously, and then she nodded. "Well, a walk sounds positively lovely." She told him, standing up and brushing off her dress out of habit, holding out her hands so as to help him stand up from the couch, even though she would probably be absolutely no help in standing him up, she was far too tiny but she would try, she could at least say she'd always try to help. Casey was always someone who tried to make sure everyone was comfortable and everything, she was a really hospitable woman. A little shy, maybe, but always as friendly as she could be. |
