Matt has always been a bit of a hard-head. He has a difficult time accepting things that don't go they way he thinks they should. This sometimes gets him into trouble when it comes to resolving differences. But he's not as dense as you might think. As much as he tries to hide it, he really does have a soft heart. He forgives quicker than he should, but it's much harder for him to forget. Unfortunately, holding grudges is a hang-up he runs into a lot. However, there is an upside to this flaw. Once his mind is set to a task, you can bet money that he's going to finish it. He's a hard worker and diligent about getting things done.
-- CARING:
Matt has been burnt in the past, so he's learned not to trust as easily as he used to. But that doesn't stop him from caring deeply for the people he loves. He puts a high value on his friends and family and you'd better believe he'll stand up for them when necessary. He's a little guarded, but once you earn his trust, you have it for life. If you break it, it's hard to get it back. He's a very loyal person and expects the same from the people he lets close to him. He doesn't like to mess around with emotions and if there's one thing he hates it's shallow relationships and fake tolerance.

Matt tends to let people's decisions effect him more than they should. He a little hard on himself sometimes and blames himself for other people's mistakes. He's a somewhat of a perfectionist in a way, and always has high expectations for himself. This makes it hard for him to accept it when others don't put the same value on their integrity. But he loves deeply (perhaps too deeply) and as much as he hates it, he has a hard time letting go and moving on - another side-effect of his stubbornness. One of the hardest thing for Matt to do is walk away from someone for cares about; regardless the situation.

Matt's mother, a Capeside native, was the tender age of seventeen when she learned that she was pregnant. Her boyfriend jumped shipped when he found out and left her to deal with the humiliation by herself. Fortunately, her parents supported her as best they could and one cold day around Christmas she gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. Her life was never the same after Matt was born. She dropped out of school and got a job at a local grocery store to provide for her child. It was a hard life, but she loved her son and did as much as she could to give him the best life possible. Five years later his mom got pregnant again with a different guy and soon his little sister was born. The father of the baby lived out of state but tried to be around as much as he could. Matt's childhood wasn't the easiest, but he grew up with the love of his mom and grandparents and he never complained.
Little did he know it, but his life wold change forever when he met Daniella. He was in his freshman year of high school at the time and things just clicked between them. They did everything together and Matt felt like the could talk to her about anything. They were best friends. A year later he finally decided to ask her out, and she said yes. The two couldn't have been happier. They made plans to stay in town and attend the local college after graduation, and if it all worked out, marriage plans were definitely in the future. But everything changed a couple months after high school graduation when Danni found out she was pregnant. Matt was shocked, but he loved her more than ever and there was no way he was going anywhere. So they decided to keep the baby and tough it out.
Matt got a part time job working for a construction company and saved up as much money as he could to take care of Danni. He was with her every step of the way and seven months into the pregnancy they had everything they needed. Good jobs, a decent apartment, and all the supplies they would need for their little baby girl - whom they decided to name Emily. Everything was going the way it was supposed to again. They weren't very well-off, but they were happy. The closer the due date came, the more the young couple's excitement grew. Matt know it would be hard, but he couldn't wait to be a dad. His dream of having a little family was coming together and Matt planned on asking Danni to marry him shortly after the baby was born.
The day for her delivery came and Matt stayed by her side through it all. Everything was going well and as far she they knew, the baby was healthy. But in an instant, everything changed for the worst. The infant had gotten tangled in the umbilical cords and suffocated. Matt and Danni were heartbroken, to say the least. It was a tough blow, but Matt loved Danni with all his heart and was determined to get past this together. After all, they had over-come so many obstacles in their young lives; why not this one? But the grief was just too much, and it tore the couple apart. He still remembers that fateful day when she told him she was leaving. She assured him that she loved him, but she just couldn't bare the memories that loomed here. Just like that, she was gone.
Matt was numb. Not only had he lost his child, but also the love of his life, all in a matter of months. The grief was almost unbearable. He distanced himself from the world and soon spiraled into a deep depression. It took a couple of years, but his little sister stepped up the plate and forced him out of the house. She taught him to live again. However, no amount of coaxing could get him to pursue any kind of relationship after Danni. It just wasn't happening. Instead, he buried himself in his work. Ten years later, he's made a pretty good name for himself as a general contractor right here in Capeside. As painful as it is here, he could never get himself to leave. He couldn't tell you why. Maybe it's the hope that Danni might come back someday. Maybe he just doesn't like change. Whatever it is, here he stays. The grief of loosing Emily and Danni still stays with him to this day, but with the help of his sister, he's learned to cope as best he can.
