PLOT
Megara is an intelligent young woman. She understands most things. She gets statistics, facts, the black and white of things. What she never comprehend is love. How did it happen? Did you just wake up and all of a sudden, BAM! you loved someone? Or did it take time? Why did people fall in love with people they knew were no good for them? Could you or could you not stop yourself from loving another individual? Honestly, it never made any sense to her at all. Attraction, she understood. Platonic love, she experienced as well. But she could never really say she'd ever been in love.
Caden and Scott Tanner, being her former stepbrothers, were two males she never thought possible to even like. But recently, they've both been acting really.. Well, for lack of a better word, odd, around her. For instance, she keeps catching the both of them staring at her. And not in the usual "I'm creepin' on you" way, but with a sort of wistful look, something she finds excessively off. After all, they were always so annoying to her. What was with the glazed-over look, anyway? But it's not only that. They've been.. Polite. And heaven forbid- flirtatious? Meg never knew either one of them to really be polite to anyone. But they have been holding doors open, pulling out her chair for her when she goes over for dinner to visit with their father.. She keeps expecting that at any moment they're going to rip the chair out from under her or slam the door in her face or something, but they don't, and she doesn't like it. Doesn't trust it, more likely.
Theresa, her niece, is convinced that they're trying to win her affections, but Meg thinks she's absolutely insane for even suggesting it. Why on earth would they be doing that? They never did it before. What made everything change? In any other circumstance or if they were anyone else, she would probably agree with Theresa and maybe devilishly enjoy it a little, but with Scott and Caden, she just can't comprehend it, honestly. The fact that they're just being so .. well, so nice, it's a little terrifying for her, she is just so unused to it. Caden, who always treated her like a baby, and Scott, who ruined the majority of her high school life, they couldn't be fighting over her, could they? And if they were, how did she feel about it?
And fighting was a key word in there, because Meg has noticed that they haven't been talking as much as they usually do, and when they aren't staring at her they're glaring at each other, and that's unusual in and of itself. They were always pretty close, and she doesn't even consider they possibly could be fighting over her. Why would they be doing that? They'd known her for years. Why start now?
But what she does know is that her heart is finally beginning to thaw for the both of them, moreso for Scott because it was already beginning to for Caden, but Scott just seems so more genuine about it, Caden doesn't seem like he means it quite so much. But what does she know? A year ago they seemed to be two entirely different people.
