YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE YOUR EYESif ten million fireflies lit upTHE WORLD AS I FELL ASLEEP It was bloody freezing way too cold for to be comfortable, and Freya was wearing her thickest coat and, and a really thick jumper, and still she could feel the goosebumps on her arms. Her, already pale, complexion seemed to have dropped a shade or two (something she didn’t even realise was possible) apart from her nose and the tips of her ears, although they were hidden by blonde curls, were tainted pink, her lips drying against the bitter cold. “Uh huh,” she mumbled into her phone as a yawn escaping her lips she struggled with the heavy door (which seemed to be getting heavier, or maybe she was just getting weaker) to the cafe in desperate need of a caffeine fix. She was half way through the first of her bi-weekly phone calls to her twin brother, who was in Uni back in England. “Are you yawning? ? Isn’t it like, noon there?” He asked teasingly, she knew exactly where he was going with this, as she checked her watch, “actually it’s a little after one,” hey if he was going to tease her about her sex life- or lack of one, she might as well go down fighting. “late night?” “Not how you’re thinking,” “oh no?” Oh god, she could hear his bloody smirk! She didn’t answer, “I’m not judging, as long as you’re not tired from staying up all night watching Lie to Me again,”
Busted. How did he do that? They weren’t even in the same continent, instead of answering him she made her way to the counter, trying to fight the blush staining her cheeks as she cleared her throat and ordered a large, vanilla latte to go, trying to ignore the laughter on the phone, her gaze firmly on the counter top, as if it was the guy serving her laughing in her face, and not her brother in her ear, “dude, seriously? You’re still drooling over Lightman, the guys weird... and old!” Rolling her eyes, Freya sighed, “so, he’s incredibly sexy.... In a weird way, and you fancy Angelina Jolie so don’t go on about my weird crushes.” Paying for her drink, she moved over to the sugar station... bit, in order to give the drink a mix with one of those weird stick things, as she ignored her twin going on about how everyone knows Angelina was hot, and she (Freya) was just jealous. Blowing a blonde curl out of her face, Freya huffed as it fell in exactly the same place, before reaching up and moving it away, knowing it was only a matter of time before.... “At least you’re over that whole Hannibal Lecter thing,” There it was. And back came her blush, full force, “There is nothing wrong with Lecter! He’s a gentleman.” She hissed, eyes narrowing, tease her all you want, but don’t go after Dr. Hannibal Lecter... Okay it was possible Freya got a little to into her characters. Her eyes rolled as Simon began listing all the reasons why her little crush was bizarre, he was in (not prison) but an asylum, he wasn’t really, he was old enough to be her father, and what was the other one... Ah yes, he ate people.
“Only the rude ones,” she paused throwing away the stick and grabbing her bag from where she put it on the counter and added, “and that one guy who couldn’t play his instrument properally.” Simon’s only reply was, “What would Freud say, Frey?” Freya’s should rose and fell as if her brother could actually see her, the blonde turned around to leave the building, without paying attention and replied as quick as a flash, “probably that I have daddy issues and an oral fixation- oof,” and walked right into someone, her jaw dropped her mouth forming perfect ‘o’ “oh my god, I’m so sorry, I should really start paying attention” she quickly apologised scanning the other for signs of spilt coffee, but luckily didn’t seem to seen any, lucky, quickly moving her hair out of her face and twisting it around her fingers on the hand that still held the phone nervously, as she began chewing on her lip.

[/style]Cafe’s mocked Eliza. In fact, any place that sold deliciously caffeinated drinks mocked Eliza. It wasn’t a good idea to have a lot of caffeine when pregnant, and since she was way too addicted to diet coke, coffee was the one that had to go. Which had actually proved a lot harder than she had realized it would be. Especially in this cold weather. She was reduced to hot chocolate to warm her, and really, it just didn’t have the same warming effect as a good cup of coffee. It also didn’t taste as good. It was funny how much you craved something when you couldn’t have it. Eliza hadn’t really considered herself hooked on coffee, but now that she didn’t have it, the young woman was starting to realise just how much she relied on the stuff. Even teacher her glass was becoming harder without her morning coffee. Or maybe that was the pregnancy hormones.
Those were mocking her too, by the way. She always has been a bit over emotional, so it shouldn’t really be a surprise that she’s been knocked around a bit by the changes in mood she has been experiencing. She just doesn’t know what to expect from herself though. Take last night for example; she was completely fine, just sitting at home flipping channels on the tv. Then she had stopped at the end of a TV serious about missing persons and caught the sappy reunion of a mother and her son, and it had her in tears for a good ten minutes. Honestly she was such a mess these days, and she was only a few months into the pregnancy. Eliza hated to think what she’d be like in the later months when not only was she moody, but her ankles were swollen and her back was aching and she just wanted the baby out already.
Letting herself into the cafe, the smell of coffee instantly hit the young woman, causing a scowl to tug on her lips. Looking down at her stomach, she gave it a small pat. “You’d better be a freaking genius or something, for all the effort I’m going to, Jell.” Of course, she didn’t exactly mean that. Eliza wanted to do what was best for her daughter no matter what. It was just that she was feeling particularly grumpy, and the only person she had to blame was her little Jelly. If Ellis was around she’d probably have found some way to make it all his fault, but he wasn’t so Jelly was it. Maybe she should have been blaming herself, and the fact she hadn’t had much sleep and she was wallowing in her sulky mood, but eh.
Closing the cafe door, Eliza took a few steps into the establishment. She was craving fries, and this place had the best fries with garlic aioli she had ever tasted. To hell with health foods, and the salad she should have been eating. Eliza was going to pig out on fries. Looking down as she walked, the young woman opened her bag and started to search for her wallet. Smirking at the one sided conversation she could hear coming towards her. Had she been looking, she might have realised the person she was listening to was about to run into her, but that would be way too observant. Instead, she kept on walking, right into the other person. Letting out a small, startled noise, she looked up. A smirk still tugging at her lips as the younger woman started apologising. “Tsk tsk. What would Lector say?”

YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE YOUR EYESif ten million fireflies lit upTHE WORLD AS I FELL ASLEEP Poor Freya had turned scarlet by this point from both embarrassment with a splash of panic thrown in- she really did blush too easily this girl. Looking at the woman, her eyes widened as the brunette spoke. It just got better and better, she’d heard the whole thing, or at least half of it, stupidly Freya had assumed that everyone would be too wrapped up in their own worlds to care about her conversation with her brother (who was she was gonna kill when she next saw him). She did a quick mental run through of the conversation to see how bad it really was, having a pretty good idea already.
‘My weird crushes.’ Buggar ‘Lecter’s a gentleman’ (which she clearly heard) Crap! ‘Daddy issues and an oral fixation’ shit.
Laughing nervously Freya reached up to move that same curl again, not that it was bothering her, just a distraction while she thought of which way to take this. Raising one shoulder slightly before letting it drop back down she replied; “well as long as there’s no Chianti around, it shouldn’t be a problem,” and laughed a little at her own joke, hoping the other woman had read the books or seen the film (or at least knew the quote, but then again, didn’t everyone know that quote?) otherwise that made absolutely no sense, and she had morphed into a crazy person with an oral fixation and daddy issues. Glancing down at the phone in her right hand she could barely hear her brother repeating her name and asking if she was there, “sorry just a sec,” she said before putting the phone to her giving the brunette an apologetic smile, “Si, I gotta go, I’ll call you later,” a pause, “in the week.” What? It was expensive to call the UK from here! “Bye,” and she hung up explaining, “sorry, my stupid idiot brother. Even half way across the world he still finds a way to embarrass me.”
Another scan of the woman’s torso and Freya finally let out a sigh of relief, “I don’t think I got you,” she explained thinking that if the woman was going to yell at her, she’d started to already, “but let me get you a cup, to make up for attacking you with mine,” she offered holding up her cup, semi- just being nice, semi-bribe to keep being nice.

[atrb=border,0,true] [style=width: 310px;height:40px;font-family:georgia;font-size:30px; letter-spacing: -5px;line-height:120%;text-shadow: black 1px 1px 1px;color:00CF4C; margin-top:-15px;]to hell with health foods. [/style]Eliza couldn’t contain herself. The whole situation was hilarious. Mostly though, because it was something that could have easily happened to Eliza. So of course when the situation was reversed, Eliza enjoyed it immensely. Just watching the younger blonde blush in embarrassment had Eliza chuckling to herself while she tried to keep a straight face. Laughing would only make things more embarrassing for the poor thing and that was the last thing Eliza wanted to do. She knew what it was like to be laughed at and it wasn’t fun at all. Generally it was Ellis laughing at her embarrassment too. Which made things even worse. He was supposed to be her best friend, not the one who was making all the awkward situations in her life worse. Ellis was good at that though, laughing at her embarrassment. He was also good at making her feel amazing, so she guessed that made up for it.
At the movie reference, Eliza couldn’t contain her laughter any longer. Chuckling loudly she chucked her head back in delight. At least the girl had a sense of humour about it all. Eliza liked people who could laugh at themselves. She liked to laugh at herself... Most of the time. At least, she tried to laugh at herself. There were times that were harder than others, but that was normal right? It was nice that this girl seemed to be able to make a joke of the situation. “Right. I think you are safe.” Giving the girl a playful wink, she looked around quickly as if to check who was around, just in case someone was lurking around that they weren’t aware of. As the blonde excused himself, Eliza merely nodded. She herself had almost forgotten that the other young woman had been on the phone. Whoever was on the other end of the phone was probably getting impatient.
Once the phone-call was over, Eliza smiled. “It’s alright. I don’t have a brother, but I have a best friend who just loves embarrassing me, so I get it.” She offered the younger girl a warm, sympathetic smile. She could picture it now in her mind- Ellis putting her through the same sort of embarrassment this girl’s brother obviously liked to put her through. At the offer, Eliza bit her lip, frowning deeply. “Oh.. well. That’s really sweet and all but I really only came in to completely blow my diet and get French fries. I’m not exactly supposed to drink coffee anyway at the moment...” She trailed off slowly, for fear of blurting out her biggest secret to a complete stranger. It was becoming harder and harder to keep it in, considering that the baby growing inside her was always on her mind. She was always biting her tongue so she didn’t slip up.

YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE YOUR EYESif ten million fireflies lit upTHE WORLD AS I FELL ASLEEP Freya could see that Eliza was trying hard not to laugh and was grateful (after all this was a highly idiotic situation, and she was feeling highly idiotic because of the situation) but the stifled laughter didn’t really help. But the stranger was trying at least- which was nice of her. But still Freya’s blush deepened. When all pretence fled and the brunette across from her began to laugh, Freya released a breath and began grinning like a fool before she too gave up her own fight against the giggles- which only got worse at the thought of what the pair must have looked like just stood in the middle of a busy café chuckling away. But why the hell not? What was the point in anything if once a while you can’t take a minute for a jolly good giggle?!
As Eliza began to talk about her friend Freya nodded knowingly, “it wouldn’t be so bad,” she began, “if I got to pick on him too sometimes,” she continued, “but noo, he’s untouchable,” raising one shoulder which immediately fell into a shrug the blonde made a vow that one day she’d get him back for everything he’d ever done to her and he’d be sorry, oh yes... He’d be very sorry. Thinking about her brother forced Freya off into her own world for a moment as she thought of the last time she actually saw him. Not that long ago, granted, as she had gone home to celebrate Christmas and the New Year, but still she missed him. It was difficult sometimes, they had always been close (regardless that his favourite hobby seemed to be to pick on her) he had always been her best friend. And, although she knew moving all the way to Massachusetts for Uni while Si was planning on staying in the UK would be hard, she didn’t realise it would be so lonely so much of the time. Yes, she had a few good friends, and yes they called as often as they could, but sometimes she just needed her brother.
Snapping herself out of the daydream almost as quickly as she had fallen into it, Freya nodded quickly, “oh well yeah, who cares about the diet- especially when the weather is as harsh as it is,” she said motioning to the closest window and the view of a tree currently at war with the wind, “and they do really good fries here.” That had been another think Freya has struggled with when she moved her. The Language, no it wasn’t completely different- so she didn’t really have to learn a completely new language, but it was just a little different. Just a little- it lead to a few awkward situations, especially with the few slang words that both the US and UK have, but mean different things- yeah Frey had a few embarrassing stories all thanks to the beauty of language. One example; the amount of times she had ordered something with chips and got it with crisps, and that’s just the first of many stor- wait what? “you’re giving up coffee!” At the mention of this, Freya subconsciously tightened her hold on her own Vanilla Latte and held it closer to her chest as if the brunette she had just met would reach over and forbid her from having her most loved beverage. She could never give up the caffeine, she had tried once for lent, not because of any religious belief just to see how far she could get and it seemed as good a time as any. It lead to the worst two and a half days of her life before Simon made her a very large, very strong cup and practically begged his twin sister to drink it. Shuddering at the memory, Freya simply stated, “you’re a much braver woman than I.” But, her curiosity has peaked. She knew, logically, that not everyone’s caffeine addiction was quite as bad as hers, but hers was bad and she always struggled to think of why someone would deny themselves something so wonderful. Unless she was pregnant, which would answer the question of the wording ‘not supposed to’ hmm but she could hardly ask the stranger, she didn’t even know her name!... Unconsciously Freya’s eyes dropped to the woman’s stomach for a millisecond before back to her face, “I’m Freya, by the way.”

[/style]Maybe it was because she felt so self-conscience about it, but Eliza could have sworn she saw the other girl look down at her stomach. Crap. Was it that obvious? Probably, because who in their right mind would give up coffee? No one that was normal, really. It might have been her own obsession with the substance that clouded her mind, but really, she had no idea how people could function without caffeine. The brunette was barely coping, and she knew she’d probably doubled her diet coke intake (which sort of defeated the purpose, but whatever). It was worth it though, she had to keep reminding herself. Looking down, Eliz had to wonder for a moment if she was showing or not. No, not showing, she decided quickly. Just fat. With a sigh, the woman ran her fingers over her stomach slowly. Whenever she was having a hard time dealing with the symptoms of pregnancy, she reminded herself that there was life inside her and that was amazing.
Dropping her hands quickly as the other girls spoke, Eliz tugged a warm smile to her lips. Honestly, she liked this young woman. Even though they had literally just met, Eliza thought she seemed like a good person to have around. She could laugh at herself, and in Eliza’s book, that was a pretty good thing. When you were as neurotic as Eliza tended to be, you had to laugh at yourself or you’d look back on the crazy things you did and want to die. Really, hearing some of her crazy antics told back to her from someone else always had Eliza embarrassed. Nodding, Eliza smiled. “Eliza,” she said in response to learning her new friend’s name. “Freya, that’s an interesting name.” She knew that when most people said things like that they were being condescending or really meant it as a bad thing, but Eliza was genuinely intrigued. Being a teacher, she heard all sorts of names. She also noticed trends in names. Which was frustrating because having three Isabellas in her class was confusing.
Eyeing Freya for a moment, Eliza decided to just throw caution to the wind. Maybe she was going to end up looking really creepy for this, but she didn’t care. She really just did not want to sit alone and eat, feeling like the biggest loner pig in the world. “This may be kinda strange, but are you doing anything right now? If you like, you can make up for running into me by sharing a bowl of fries?” Smiling hopefully, she watched for the blonde’s reaction. It wasn’t like she did this all the time, but she’d just felt so isolated lately, with only Ellis, Jelly and a bunch of grade schoolers to talk to. It would be nice to have a conversation with someone else for a change.

YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE YOUR EYESif ten million fireflies lit upTHE WORLD AS I FELL ASLEEP
Freya laughed and nodded in agreement, “yeah, I guess that’s one word for it,” she said still laughing before taking a sip of the cooling latte in her hands, “especially with ‘Simon’, my brother’s name, they don’t really go do they,” the blonde thought for a minute, “I always sorta liked it though, made me feel like a fairy or pixie or something when I was little,” she choose not to admit that sometimes, in certain dresses she owned, she still felt a little fairy like and would still spin in circles and run down staircases for longer than is perhaps normal-if it was normal (well it was for her regardless) making the skirt of the dress float around, yeah she was still a child at heart- probably always would be. “I think it means something like Goddess of love and fertility I think- but don’t hold me too that.”
A grin broke out on her face at the invitation, any other week she would have had to decline and, hopefully get a rain check and run off to her Blood Sciences lecture and prey she isn’t late. But that morning she had received an e-mail from her lecturer explaining both his wife, and young child were ill (and he was feeling early symptoms himself) and he was cancelling this week’s lecture (yaaaaay that guy was boring and just read from slides in a really boring monotone) so she was free. And Eliza seemed like a really nice person, someone Freya would enjoy getting to know better so why not? She certainly didn’t strike her as a psycho serial killer, and it was a public place, and worst case scenario, Freya could just kick her in the shin and run like hell, “yeah,” she agreed nodding quickly, “yeah, sounds great.”

[/style]Eliza had to grin, holding in a laugh. Simon and Freya certainly didn’t seem like two names that someone would pick for their children. Eliza had noticed parents normally seemed to choose names all with similar themes. Some parents liked to use strange spelling. Some liked to use biblical names. Some used strange names that Eliza was never really sure if they were legitimate names. Whatever though right? She guessed she shouldn’t really judge other people for their choices in names. Especially considering the fact she had legitimately named her cat ‘Abraham de Lacy Giuseppe Casey Thomas O'Malley’ and could get a little offended when people tried to shorten it. She knew it was silly, and that the name was preposterous, but she had always loved The Aristocats. Plus her little bitch of a cat looked like an Alley cat. And he was not Macavity. No matter how much Ellis wanted to sing the damned song.
Anyway, that wasn’t the point now was it? Nodding, she smiled. “It is kind of a fairy name isn’t it?” She giggled slightly. That actually sounded like something that Eliza would have done as a child. As the other girl explained the meaning, Eliza whistled lowly. “That’s actually kinda nice you know.” At least Freya’s parents seemed to pick a name that was somewhat meaningful. She wanted to name her own child something that meant more than just ‘a tree’ or something. As the girl agreed to share some fries, Eliza grinned. “Wonderful.” Liking her arm through the other girl’s, she led her back to the register where she ordered fries and a diet coke. “You want anything else?” She raised an eyebrow at Freya, she knew she already had coffee, but just in case she did want something else, Eliza wasn’t going to deny her that chance.

YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE YOUR EYESif ten million fireflies lit upTHE WORLD AS I FELL ASLEEP
Freya nodded offering a small smile, “never a bad thing for an eight year old,” she told her with a little giggle, her smile growing at the compliment a blush staining her pale cheeks as she reached up to play a little with a blonde curl that didn’t do what she had been telling it too, but really she just needed something to do with her hands, something to play with. She’d never really been complimented much and now never really knew what to do when she was, usually just ended up blushing like an idiot, fidgeting, and babbling on about something silly, “thanks,” she said passing her coffee cup from one hand to the other, then back again.
As the Brunette liked arms with her, Freya beamed. She herself was a very touchy- feely kind of person and she was so pleased that the other woman seemed to be too. It was one thing she was always nervous about when she met someone new, that she would cross a line and make them feel uncomfortable by he entering their personal bubble or something if she hugged or touched them- she was a big hugger and a huge believer that a hug was a powerful thing, but she was also aware that not everyone liked to be hugged, her older sister was one of them (mad, but true). Luckily it seemed Freya wouldn’t need to worry too much about this with Eliza, yaaaay. At the girls offer Freya smiled her thanks, but shook her head holding up the coffee cup, “I’m good, but thanks,” she told her before taking another sip of the liquid. It was cooler now, but a long way from being gross, just at the stage where it could be drank without fear of burning now.
As Eliza ordered, Frey took the opportunity to look around the room and try and find a place for the girls to sit. Immediately crossing off outside- it was way too cold out there, her eyes scanned the inside of the less than busy café, but there were factors to be considered; drafts from the door opening and closing, distance from the bin and the bathrooms, didn’t want people walking by every few seconds, and corners, Freya had issues with people sneaking up behind her since she was a kid and he brother thought it was the funniest thing to do for about seven months. Yeah, she knew she was making it difficult for herself but it was a routine she had to do a lot. It didn’t take long for her gaze to find the spot, in a corner close too them and turned back around to the counter.
