[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,300] TAGGED FOR NIKKI AS RUBY | HOPE IT'S OKAY! Samson Honeycutt was actually out of his dorm. An unusual sight to see, one might think, but Sam was actually out to see his sister, the main reason besides his classes that he ever left said dorm. Plus, he really just couldn't handle his roommate, Avia, or her snappy little slightly hurtful comments today. He just wanted out of there, honestly. He ran a hand through his hair out of habit, taking a look around at his surroundings before putting his hand back in his pocket and continuing on his way. He would have met her at his parents house, where she still lived, if he wasn't still mad at them.
He would probably still be mad at Ruby, too, if she wasn't... Well, Ruby. Impossible to really stay mad at when all she wanted was for the best for him. Though by now, he would like to think that he knew what was best for him more than anyone else. But really, he probably didn't. Still, being the only person untold of a serious disease, was never fun. He sighed softly as he entered the fast food restaurant (which he had chosen mostly because it was all that he could afford to pay on his college salary and partly because he really loved their burgers), frowning as the bell on the door jingled, announcing his presence to everyone in the restaurant. He'd always hated those stupid bells.
He took a look around the building in search of either Ruby or an empty table as soon as he entered, but the empty table was all what he found, however, and he sort of rushed quietly and subtly across the room to claim it before anyone else did, deciding that he would wait for Ruby to order anyway. Even ordering food was not all that easy for the poor shy boy, it seemed a lot easier when someone else was there with him.
Plus, it was the last open table and he didn't want to get up and leave it and have someone else come get it while he was ordering, then he'd be left standing or sitting with a complete stranger, neither of which sounded all too exciting for him.
He leaned back in his chair as he looked out the window in search of his little sister, but got bored all too quickly doing that and pulled out his phone instead, checking to make sure she hadn't texted him and told him she couldn't make it, which didn't happen often, but she hadn't, so he switched over to playing angry birds instead. Apparently, even geniuses liked hurtling little oddly colored birds through the air to knock random crap over.
Though Samson might just argue, being bored was a relatively good reason to play such a strangely, almost worrisomely addictive game. Maybe it was just him, though.

Did her brothers do anything besides eat? They probably did, but it was certainly feeling like all they did was consume food for Ruby. Considering she had seen both her brothers in the space of a week or so and they had both suggested getting something to eat. She supposed she couldn’t blame Spencer for choosing that sort of activity. Her eldest brother probably was probably unsure of what else Ruby would have liked to do, so grabbing coffee or something to eat was a safe bet. Sam though, he and Ruby were rather close and knew the sorts of things the other one liked to do. However Ruby didn’t see him as much as she would have liked these days now that he was living in the college dorms, so she wasn’t going to pass up a chance to see him. Besides, she figured he was just tired of college food and wanted a change.
Letting out a small sight, Ruby wondered how much Spencer and Sam spoke. In particular, if they had spoken since she’d last seen Spencer, and if the older Honeycutt had told Sam about anything she had said about Bradley. She hoped not, because Ruby was sure that if Sam caught wind of anything being wrong on that front she wouldn’t be able to escape the third degree. It was hard enough fending off her parents questions about why he wasn’t around much anymore. A fact that they almost looked pleased about, but that was another topic entirely. Truth was, the more her family asked about it, the more Ruby was scared that the truth would come out. Which was not something she wanted. Considering that her father at least, if not her brothers included, would want to act out their feelings towards Bradley in a violent way. In other words, they were likely to hit him. Which was far from what she wanted.
Parking her mother’s car in the lot, Ruby cut off the engine. While she could drive freely, Ruby lacked her own car. It didn’t bother her much though. Her family had a comfortable life and if she asked, her parents would probably have been able to work something out- even for just a little second hand thing. Ruby figured though that the family’s money was better spent on other things. Besides, both her parents trusted her enough to lend her a car whenever they could, so it was rarely an issue for Ruby. Besides that, Capeside was fairly easy to navigate without a car for the most part. Getting out of the car, Ruby was careful to lock the vehicle before slipping the keys into her hand-bag. While Capeside wasn’t exactly grand theft auto central, but she was always a little paranoid something horrible would happen to the car, so she was diligent to lock it.
Making her way inside, Ruby was quick to stop her sandy haired brother. Smiling, the young woman made her way over to the table quickly. The place seemed pretty busy so it was a good thing that Sam had been able to find them a table or they might have been waiting for who knew how long. Beaming at her big brother, Ruby leant down and pressed a kiss to his forehead. “Hey you.” She greeted warmly as she took her seat across from the older boy. “Hope you haven’t been waiting too long..” Though she was sure she wasn’t late, Ruby still didn’t like the idea of her brother having too wait for her alone for too long. He was a big boy though, she had to remind herself, perfectly capable of looking after himself. Still though.. He was her Sam and she had spent most of her teenage years making sure he ate when their parents were busy with Milly, and making sure he had clean clothes for school. She’d even signed a permission slip once that had slipped her parent’s minds.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,300] TAGGED FOR NIKKI AS RUBY | HOPE IT'S OKAY! Sam didn't have to wait long before he was joined by his sister. As he heard the door jangle he looked up and smiled, slipping his phone off and back into his pocket as she reached him. “Hey Rubes.” He replied, grinning as she kissed his forehead. “Not long at all, no worries.” Even if he had, he probably wouldn't have told her, he didn't mind waiting for his little sister at all. Not that Ruby was ever really late meeting Sam.
In a lot of respects, Ruby ought to have been the older sibling. She was always the one to take care of Sam, not usually the other way around as it probably should have been. Sam often felt bad about the way she always had to watch over him, he was more than capable intellectually, taking care of himself, but when it came to social interactions, and a lot more, she was his go to gal. His parents were always too busy for him, with Milly, but no one really seemed to be there taking care of Ruby, except for maybe Spencer before he moved away to college, and Sam honestly didn't know how she did it.
Sam had always been fiercely protective of her, though. She was his Ruby, his little sister, sort of his keeper, in a way. Of course, he was just as protective over Milly, maybe even Spencer, if he wasn't sulking about his leaving them. Though he understood his brother's reasoning for going away, he still felt like it wasn't fair of him. Everyone else felt like running away at least one point in their life, but no one else really did. To be honest, Sam wasn't even sure if he respected him for leaving when no one else could or was still angry at him for leaving when everyone needed him.
Sam didn't know what to think about a lot of things, though. Everything was usually so muddled, confusing. Emotions were definitely not his strong point, and he didn't like showing a lot of them. Happiness was good, he could do that just fine, especially when Ruby was there with him, she made almost everything better. But anger was hard, because he couldn't quite explain why he was so angry, he felt abandoned, mostly, but it wasn't even all his parents' fault and it made him angry that he couldn't even be mad at them without feeling conflicted. Sadness was another major one, one that he also didn't particularly like because it was just so overwhelming and he couldn't stand it.
Helpless. That was how he felt. Completely and utterly helpless, like nothing could ever make anything better. Sam was certain he had Aspergers to some level or degree, talking to people never came really easily to him, but he was smart, and focused, and dedicated. But somehow, no matter his intelligence or his capabilities, helpless and hopeless were the adjectives that always seemed to throw themselves in his face, make him feel absolutely useless and just so frustrated all the time.
But none of that was what Sam was focusing on now, now he was focused on his little sister, who was sitting across from him. “How've you been?” he asked as quietly as ever, tilting his head to the side. “I feel like we haven't talked in years. I miss you.” okay, so maybe ‘years’ was a bit of an exaggeration, but even Samson was allowed to exaggerate sometimes. He couldn't help but smile again at her. She'd barely said four words to him but already his mood was lightened so much.

While in many ways Ruby was the older sibling in the pair, Sam did look after her. In his own way. He’d always looked out for Ruby has best he could, and she knew she could always count on him to be there for her. Which in some respects was far more important anyway. Sure, there were some things that Ruby didn’t go to Sam about- but that wasn’t because of Sam in any way. It had a lot to do with the kind of introverted girl Ruby was. Also, there were just some things your brother didn’t want to know, and Ruby was well aware of that. Bradley was a perfect example of that. Ruby hadn’t told Sam about the night with Brad. Honestly, it would have just given the older Honeycutt more reason to hate Brad and that was something Ruby liked to avoid. She wasn’t a huge fan of tension, and it only made her situation with Brad much worse.
Offering a warm smile, Ruby gave a small shrug. She didn’t want to lie to her brother, so how was she supposed to answer his question without bringing up Bradley? Arg! She hated that so much of her life revolved around the boy. What was she supposed to do though? Ignore the fact that she was connected to him in a way that was undeniable? It was an impossible task, and Ruby should know because since meeting Brad she’d spent a lot of time trying to put him from her mind. There was just so much more she should be thinking about though. She was a senior and in a few months school would be over, her little sister had been acting strange which was never a good sign. She felt guilty, actually, devoting so much thought and energy to someone who probably didn’t deserve it anyway. She should be focusing on her family.
Which was what she was going to now. She was going to ignore your over-active mind and focus on Sammy. “I know, it’s been way too long since we spent any real time together. I’m sorry.” She was genuinely sorry she hadn’t made enough time for her brother. This year had been odd for them, with him off in college. Sure, it was in the same town but she was so used to Sam just being around at home all the time that it had been a bit of an adjustment. Things would be different next year when Ruby herself was at Capeside College. Or at least that was her plan. She couldn’t see herself leaving Capeside. “I’ve been busy working on an art assignment. Nothing too exciting. What’s going on with you?” She wriggled her eyebrows playfully. Ruby always liked to make Sam feel like his life was completely exciting.
“Actually.” She spoke again, before giving him much of a chance to answer. “Why don’t I go and order first? I think they are down to the last piece of peach pie.” Everyone knew Ruby had a borderline obsession with all things peach. “I’ll go order for the both of us, what would you like, Sammy?” She smiled brightly at her brother, waiting for him to make a choice. Ruby had already somewhat decided what she was in the mood for before she’d even pulled up. Then she was one to stick to her habits- always ordering the same sorts of foods. If you were onto a good thing though, why change that?

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,300] TAGGED FOR NIKKI AS RUBY | (: Sam shook his head as Ruby apologized. "Nah, don't feel bad. I mean, I've been busy too." He frowned. Last thing that he wanted was for her to feel bad about it. College took up more time than he thought it would, but he understood why Ruby would be busy. She was a senior, after all. Not only did she have a lot of school to do, she probably had a lot more friends than Sam ever did, he didn't blame her for being too busy for him. He would always be there, high school wouldn't.
"An art assignment?" Samson echoed with a smile. "Sounds like fun." He knew how talented his sister was at art and photography, he personally wasn't that bad himself but he never really had a passion for it like Ruby did. He'd personally always liked to write. But that was still more of a hobby. Forensic anthropology- that was what he was studying, what he really loved. Why, he wasn't really all too certain. It was just incredibly fascinating to him. And fascinating- that wasn't a word he threw around easily.
Before he answered - before he even had a chance to consider how to respond- his sister decided that this would be a good time to go order their food. He grinned as she mentioned the peach pie, and he nodded. "Okay." he agreed, as she offered to order for him as well. Which lifted a rather heavy burden off his shoulders- not having to go up there and order. "Just a burger is fine, thank you," he answered, with a grateful smile.
Having her ask about his life made him wonder sightly if he should tell her about his feelings toward a certain interesting young blonde that he happened to be living with for the past few years in college. Sam really did not know how he was supposed to put that into words, however. He trusted Ruby completely with his secrets, but admitting it out loud was doing just that. Admitting that it existed. It was harder than he imagined it would be. Of course he'd had feelings for people before, but Avia was different.
She was.. well, to be blunt, mean, self centered, manipulative.. it didn't make any sense that Samson would fall for her. Not even to him. But she did have a different side, he'd seen it. That was what he liked so much about her, she wasn't just what everyone thought. But she would never go for a guy like Samson Honeycutt. He was nerdy, quiet, socially awkward; he faded into the background. That was his main problem. If she found out, she would have new material to tease him mercilessly about. Not something he was necessarily looking forward to.
But you know what, Ruby'd never tell a soul if he asked her not to. If he had worked up enough courage by the time she came back, maybe he'd just tell her and get it over with. He highly doubted she'd have a lot of romantic advice, but at least she could maybe give him some insight on a woman's perspective with his little issue.
