-- TANNER JEREMY HASTINGS !
-- NAME: Tanner Jeremy Hastings -- NICKNAMES: Tanner -- AGE & BIRTHDAY: 27, January 12th -- BIRTH PLACE: Capeside, MA -- ORIENTATION: Hetersexual -- OCCUPATION & SCHOOL GRADE: Architect -- PLAYED BY: Paul Wesley
-- PERSONALITY !
-- ARTISTIC: It’s strange really, that someone like Tanner inherited even the smallest of artistic genes. This kid, who played soccer all throughout his school life, found a different talent. With a pencil and paper he is a wizard. No one really knows where this artistic trait came from; he had never had an art lesson in his life. To Tanner, at first, sketching was just a fun little past time he did in the park. He would sketch birds and beautiful women and the likes. Eventually that developed greatly and he became what he is today. Strangely, he is not the greatest painter in the world, but with just a pencil and paper he’s fine. His mind functions like no other, coming up with intricate building designs and even things that people have assured him are quite impossible. The art is his outlet, his way of expressing himself. There are only a scarce few, however, who he shows his precious works to. Many of his friends, he felt, would have mocked him when he was younger if they knew. -- DETERMINED: Tanner has managed to develop a most head strong trait. This, he has decided, he has received from his father. Even if things look like they are going to go sour, Tanner tries his best to get things back on track. If work is slow, he works harder than ever. Determined? Yes. A little head strong and stubborn? Probably. Sometimes he can take this a little too far, shutting himself in his room for days to get something done. Most of the time, it pays off. When it doesn’t, he just gets angry and beats himself up about it, and then tries again. He always tries his hardest to be the best that he can be for everyone, although often the cause is lost along the way. It is hard to please everyone and sometimes, whilst he is working to please one person, he loses another. His determination to please people, although it has given him a lot, has also been the cause of a lot of pain. -- CHEERFUL: Being brought up in a household like the Hastings one, Tanner has found a way to get past all of the strict teachings. His cheerful look on life has always managed to help him out. He knows how to make someone laugh, and when others laugh, it just makes him happier. Tanner almost always has a good joke on hand, ready to cheer up anyone who is feeling just a little bit down. He likes jokes, even if many of his are just a little bit corny. He has discovered that when he makes other people happy and when he is happy, the whole world seems just a little less sad. It’s a good feeling, making someone else happy, and it’s a feeling that Tanner loves. His smile is often the reason he’s so good at this. His parents have always told him that he has the most open and happy smile. Tanner, however, doesn’t quite see it. Regardless, as long as he’s happy and everyone else is happy, that’s all that matters. After he left Nataliya, however, this became more difficult for him. Even after three years without her, the cheerful jokes and humour is simply just a cover for the fact that his heart is broken, and he doesn't know how to fix it.
-- LOVES: nataliya, drawing, his job, drinking, bars, forgetting the past, horror movies, the beach, soccer, his sisters, thrills, adrenaline, his motorbike -- HATES: memories, his parents, his boss, shopping, disappointment, pressure, expectations, being alone, romantic comedies, teenagers, annoying kids, commitment
-- HISTORY !
Born in Capeside to Mr Jonathon Hastings and Mrs Christina Hastings, Tanner was the eldest of a five children. All that would follow him would be girls, much to his disappointment. Despite this, he loved each of his sisters just as much as he would have loved any of his brothers, if not more. Each child was separated by two years and that only made each of them closer to the other. The Hastings parents were both strong Catholics and they decided that they wanted to bring their children up the same way. Every Sunday, the seven of them would head off to church and they would have a big family dinner after that.
When Tanner turned thirteen he was told that he would not be allowed to date any girl without their direct permission. Tanner, being Tanner, listened to them and decided he would please them by doing what they said. And he did. He only dated girls that his parents liked and that they would allow him to date. And then he turned sixteen and all of that vanished. He decided that he did not really need their permission to date anyone. But by that stage, everyone he knew had stamped him as the weird Catholic guy that plays soccer and doesn’t date. All the guys in the soccer team, which he had joined at the start of junior high, usually payed him out, but there were a few select boys that were nice to him. Tanner just grinned and bore it, and continued on through his school life.
At age eighteen he well and truly broke his parents’ rule. Tanner met Nataliya. She was beautiful and Russian he instantly found himself in love. His parents were sceptical, telling him that she was not Catholic and that she would affect Tanner’s faith. Tanner started dating her, regardless; meanwhile trying to convince his parents that he would be able to keep his faith with her. He loved his parents and he loved Nataliya. Finally, they agreed on the basis that he would not let things get too serious and that if they did, he would marry her. He agreed, because he still believed what they had taught him: that sex before marriage was a terrible sin.
Together, the pair went to college together in Denver and Tanner sadly farewelled his beloved family. He started to lose his faith slowly, questioning everything that he had been taught. He had stopped going to church and reading his bible and he only prayed occasionally when he needed strength. He knew what his parents would say but he believed that they did not need to know. At twenty-two Nataliya graduated and Tanner received the letter from his parents. His mother, knowing that her son had been living with his girlfriend all that time, had sent her mother’s engagement ring, wanting Tanner to propose. Everyone that Nat and Tanner knew assumed that he would propose, even without hearing about the ring. And yet, Tanner never quite got the courage. Even after going out with her for so long, and loving her so much, he was too scared that she would say no. And he was too scared of what the commitment would mean.
When they were both twenty three came the dreaded night. The two lost their virginity to each other. Tanner knew that if his parents ever found out they would disown him but they didn’t need to know that intimate detail of his life. And then Nataliya told him what he had dreaded to hear. She was pregnant. Tanner freaked out. He had no idea what to do. His parents would know what he’d done now. And so he did the only thing that he thought he could do. He left. He told Nataliya that he had received a job in California and then he just vanished.
Tanner stayed in California for three years. Over those years he designed a number of buildings as well as selling some of his other sketches for more money. And yet, he could not forget about the family that he had left behind. The crummy apartment he lived in was lonely and the engagement ring that he wore around his neck constantly reminded him of Nataliya. He simply could not let got. During his time in California he slept around and he drunk quite a lot, trying to forget about the beautiful Russian girl he had abandoned in Capeside with his unborn daughters. His parents had since moved away from Capeside and so they had no idea about the pregnancy and Tanner did not tell him.
Eventually, Tanner decided that he needed to see his ex-girlfriend again, he just needed to. He had no idea what he would say to her or how he could make up for his mistake. All he knew was that he was still desperately in love with her. And so he packed his bags and hopped onto a plane. So now he’s back in Capeside, looking to mend things with Nataliya and get to know his two beautiful daughters.
