-- LUKE EMMANUEL PRATT !
-- NAME: Luke Emmanuel Pratt. -- NICKNAMES: Luke. Dr. Pratt. Dr Pratt. Doc. -- AGE & BIRTHDAY: 37. June 29. -- BIRTH PLACE: Agrestic, California. -- ORIENTATION: Heterosexual. -- OCCUPATION & SCHOOL GRADE: Trauma surgeon. -- PLAYED BY: Timothy Olyphant.
-- PERSONALITY !
-- RECKLESS: Luke always has a comment for everything. Every situation. Every person. His sense of humour might not go appreciated by most and yet, it's really hard for him to hold back and keep his remarks to himself. He’ll scoff, clear his throat, snicker or snort and cover it up with a coughing fit if you're being stupid. He’ll want to help you by pointing it out. He swears a lot too, quite an expressive person, he'll tell you exactly how he feels or, better yet, show you. Not that in the past that hasn’t gotten him his ass kicked once or twice. But he’s just opinionated and frank and, really, that’s a quality to be valued in this day and age. He might have grown a bit more bitter, a bit colder and harsher in the past two years, although only those who knew him well before might be aware of this change. -- PROACTIVE: Luke is very practical and proactive. He despises people who sit around whining about things instead of actually doing something to fix it. Always the hyperactive one, Luke was constantly coming up with ways to deal with a problem and immediately applying them. Don’t come to him with a problem if you only need a shoulder to cry on. Problems have solutions. Period. Luckily, he’s learned to meditate on things more instead of acting out of pure instinct. In the past he would constantly get into trouble because of his recklessness and impulsive behaviour. Now Luke is a bit more capable of controlling his temper and thinking before acting (not before speaking, though; that’s still an issue). He’s observant and possesses an excellent memory, all of this making him a quick learner. -- COMPASSIONATE: He’s firm and sometimes harsh and to most he can appear to be a right royal bastard, but his friends and family, and especially his assistants and coworkers, know better than anyone that he's loyal as hell. He might not be the warmest or most affectionate of sons but he loved his mother, no matter how much he used to complain about her and he loves his father, no matter how hard it is for the both of them to hug. They say you can judge a man by how he treats his inferiors instead of his equals, but Luke treats everyone the same. No matter who you are, you're still going to get verbally abused. It is often a problem with his superiors and oftentimes Luke has been sent to the corner on time out, for which he's had to learn when to back off and take a punishment like a man. He’s capable of great compassion, but very careful not to show it much. So, try not to disappoint him because after that there's no return to grace. And Luke knows how to be intimidating when he wants to.
-- LOVES: Whiskey, work, trying new things, swimming, The Godfather, classic rock, dark humor, pressure, challenges, dogs, his ex wife. -- HATES: Onions, paperwork, being understaffed, war, the board, bugs, grocery shopping, ties, high-pitched laughter, tiny portions of pretentious food, the anniversary.
-- HISTORY !
Agrestic was not a shithole per se, and it definitely did have a nicer side; mainly Luke just thought it was boring. Maybe it was just him, maybe it was the fact that he had no brothers or sisters and that his parents both had to work, but to him there was nothing not super avergae about his Californian town. Mostly you were just surrounded by the middle class. It’s where you would find Luke’s family. Born to a contractor and a community college dropout, there’s nothing at all extraordinary about the Pratts. They’re good, hard-working people who did their best on day to day basis to get by. An only child, Luke had a pretty normal childhood: he was healthy and as energetic as a small boy should be. Alright, perhaps a bit more. His parents, while making an effort to provide for him and be there for him, could not for the life of them handle his hyperactivity. It was nothing to worry about, though; what boy doesn’t get in trouble every once in a while? The amount of visits to the ER may have been a little concerning, but Luke never seemed to mind no matter how many stitches he had to get or how many x-ray they had to take. It got to a point where the Pratts were on first name basis with the hospital staff. While at first it was mainly about being called to the principal’s office, as Luke grew into an adolescent, the trouble he would get into switched levels as well. He was able to make friends as easily as he was capable of rubbing people the wrong way and he liked girls, substances and experimenting just as any other teen in town did. It was not uncommon for a police patrol car to drop him off at home in the middle of the night or for his father to have to be called to the police station to pick him up. The cops at the station got to know the Pratts a little more than Luke’s parents would have preferred, but at least they knew he was being watched over and kept in check. The medical bills didn’t cease either. It was by this point that Luke had decided he would become a doctor, fascinated by the action going on in the room whenever he was there and unable to tear away his eyes when he was able to spot some really bad, really gruesome looking injury. Thanks to this realization, Luke eventually began applying himself in school a lot more. He didn’t stop hanging out with his sketchy posse and enjoying himself, but he made sure his grades were good enough to get into college and later into medical school. Always forward-thinking, proactive and ambitious, when the time came to start his residency, Luke decided to travel to a very different setting simply because he had to work in one of the top teaching hospitals in the country. Little did he know, such setting would become his life and he wouldn’t look back. Everything was really good for a while. Then it all fell apart. For the past two years Luke has been residing in Africa, something he had been wanting to do for a while, but hadn’t had a chance to due to his newfound stability. When that stability fail, Luke took the opportunity and moved away as an escape from the loss of his only child and the crumbling of his marriage as a result. The action served to keep him busy and the retribution that came from all the good he at least attempted to do over there did help fix the broken state he had been upon arrival a little bit... not without stumbling in the process (namely, contemplating the gun he kept under his mattress for protection on the first anniversary of his son's passing).

Luke watched Phay carefully. He stayed silent as she shrunk apprehensively and began expressing remorse. She fumbled through the numerous documents that lay in between the two and Luke followed her hand with his eyes. Through his mind several expectations ran. First, it seemed to him that the girl was going to break sooner than he or the cops had anticipated. She’d been busted and, despite all previous claims, she now appeared to be aware of what was happening right then and there. Could it be that she was about to pull the plug on the whole thing and release a statement? If so, Luke would have to stop her on time, give her a chance to discuss the full story with him before a detective came in to do the official bullying.
She was talking. Slowly. Hesitating. Visibly sorry. Luke searched her gaze before redirecting his eyes to the piece of paper she was holding for him.
"I'm really sorry for stealing your soap, please forgive me so we can be friends."
It took him a second, but Luke eventually caught on and blinked despite himself. His eyes immediately traveled back to her, surely a bit wider than before. Soap. Nothing more. This whole thing, to her, was still just about the soap. She had been read her rights and the whole time she’d thought it was about stealing soap.
Or at least pretended she had.
Letting out a soft, calm sigh, Luke leaned back in his chair and resisted the urge to look at the two-way mirror over his shoulder as his defendant continued to explain, this time saying something about puppies. He’d pointedly ignored her request for input and instead shifted his focus to the documents before him.
Well, if she this committed to playing the innocent, little girl, he could work with that. But it was now imperative that they got to meet alone, no cops, no judges and no doctors. Just the two of them. And she would have to tell him the truth or there was no deal.
By this point, Luke had unconsciously signed himself in.
“What’s that?”
He looked up at her sharply. Phay had apparently shifted her own focus to the file as well and a particular picture had caught her attention. Luke followed her eyes. It was a picture of her and a mention of the very family she had been accused of slaughtering. Except, judging from the hopeful tone of her queries and the twinkle in her eyes as Luke turned to her with a raised eyebrow, Phay had no idea of the fate she had allegedly inflicted upon them.
“Okay,” he finally said and once again leaned forward, “Phay, that’s not why I’m here. And yes, this is about your parents. You remember the last time you saw them? And can you honestly tell me that you have no idea what happened to them?”
That would be all he needed really. If she responded the way Luke was expecting her to, there was nothing more to it and the judge would have no reason to keep her locked in this place until a trial.
Well, this was certainly different.
