-- JACK ADAM RAFFERTY !
-- NAME: Jack Adam Rafferty -- NICKNAMES: JR, Raff -- AGE & BIRTHDAY: March 6. 26 -- BIRTH PLACE: Boston, Massachusetts -- ORIENTATION: Straight -- OCCUPATION: Salesman at Michael Scarn Paper Co. -- PLAYED BY: Zachary Levi
-- PERSONALITY !
-- LIKABLE: People liked Jack. It was a simple truth with very few exceptions to the rule. Born with moderate good looks and a winsome personality, Jack was lucky enough to have the indefinable charm that won most over. His easy-going nature was calming, often making him the reliable straight man that people turned to during problematic situations. Coupled with his intellect, he is a natural born leader and is comfortable taking charge of situations to help others (yet still comfortable and secure enough to let others lead him). He is incredibly empathetic, although rarely affectionate to those around him. Instead, Jack opts for more detached displays of fondness, mainly centered around his infamous sardonic sense of humor. Incredible sarcastic and a master of deadpan, approximately 80% of his jokes were of the cynical kind (the other 20% being the light-hearted practical jokes he still has a childish inclination to). -- PRIVATE: Having been raised in a traditional Irish household, the one thing that Jack had learned above all else was how to repress things. Anger? Blown off. Heart break? Bottled away. Having internalized all major fluctuations in emotion since a young age, Rafferty had developed an independent outlook on receiving sympathy. It wasn't as if it was weak or anything, there were just more important things to focus on. To him, his time was better spent enjoying life, rather then reliving bits of the past. Only in extreme circumstances did he actually talk about himself. It was usually after quite some provocation, after a bit of liquor, to the wrong person, and immediately followed up by an insurmountable amount of regret. His problems were his problems. His life was his life. Neither things were interesting nor important enough to let any one else in. It was much easier to brush it off with a joke. -- UNINVESTED: Jack is what could describe as a drifter. With no emotional or financial investment in anything, it was more often then not that he just seemed to coast on by. While some may see his intellect as a gift, it was at a young age that he learned how to talk his way around anything. With skills like that, you never had to try. You never learn the pride of hard work, when you've never had to actually try to get something. It wasn't his fault. Things just came naturally to him, and as such, Jack never took the time to really figure their worth. His job, for instance, was never taken seriously. There hadn't been a day he had actually put forth an effort, yet he still maintained a position in the top ten salesman in the company. Just like everything else in his life, if he were to lose his job, it would be ok. With little investment came no strings; he enjoyed the freedom of knowing he could do something else with his life at any point.
-- LOVES: the shins, basketball, practical jokes, softshell crab, bicycling, sarcasm, beer, blackjack, mutemath, forests, netflix -- HATES: irrational belief structures, his job, monotony, saltine crackers, gossip, stupid nicknames, frat guys, chauvinistic tendencies, drama, paper shredders
-- HISTORY !
Like most Irish households, the Rafferty family was originally based in Boston, Massachusetts. There was a standard formula that every family seemed to follow in the neighborhood, and it went as follows: a working stiff father, an over bearing mother, and a minimum of two siblings. His father, Jonathan Rafferty was a construction worker with a loud mouth and an affinity for good whiskey. His mother, Hannah O'Dowd-Rafferty, was a finicky, yet passionate woman who had an unparalleled sense of humor.
Before Jack's birth, the Rafferty's welcomed two sons: Shaun and Patrick. Only a year apart, the two were practically inseparable and quite known for their childish antics even up until their late teens. In 1985, three years after Patrick's birth, Jack was born. The year following, Meghan, their last child and only girl. Growing up was based on morals in the Rafferty home. The key was strength. Strength came from family.
Family was based on love. There wasn't a month that went by with out having some kind of family get together; the house constantly being used for barbecues, birthdays, holidays, etc. It was an easy task to get lost in the bustle of it all. A housefull of boisterous personalities seemed like a recipe for disaster to many, but a sense of humor was key to keeping things smooth.
It wasn't until after coasting through High School that Jack really celebrated his independence from his family. Upon graduation, he enrolled in the University of North Carolina to obtain a degree in History. Of course at the time he wasn't incredibly sure what kind of job this degree would leave for him in the future (besides being a teacher), but regardless. After four years, he graduated with honors and moved back to the Massachusetts area to settle himself into a new life. Eager to start his life, he took the first house available (one filled to the brim with about a thousand other room mates) and the first job passed his way (a salesman at a small paper company).
It's not his dream. It's not his future. He's just waiting around until he gets his life started.
