-- SOPHIE ESTHER O’SHEA !
-- NAME: Sophie Esther O’Shea nee Flemming -- NICKNAMES: Soph, Ophie -- AGE & BIRTHDAY: twenty-eight, may 16th -- BIRTH PLACE: Capeside -- ORIENTATION: Straight -- OCCUPATION & SCHOOL GRADE: Mother, however is a qualified school guidance counsellor. -- PLAYED BY: Rachel Bilson
-- PERSONALITY !
-- NURTURING: Sophie has always been a rather maternal sort of person. It’s always been a part of who she is; the desire to nurture people. She’s most content when she has someone to look after. Even if it’s as simple as just cooking her family a meal, or being there to hug or comfort someone. Sure, she may take it a tad bit over the top sometimes (putting each part of her husband’s packed lunch in spate plastic bags or containers with labels much?), but she honestly couldn’t help herself. A lot of it had to do with her up-bringing. There was always someone in her house that needed something when she was younger, and the older she became, the more she found herself.
-- SIMPLISTIC: Sophie likes the simple things in life. She’s never been a rather materialistic girl. Preferring spending time with friends and family, and basic pleasures over expensive or excessive things. She had things she liked, and indulged herself sometimes, and brought gifts for other people. She just didn’t put a lot of value on those sorts of things. Her ideal picture of life is simply this; A happy family, with basic needs being met. As long as she is content in her life, happy, and she has family and friends around her, there isn’t a lot more she could ask for or even want.
-- EMPATHETIC: As a deep feeling person, Sophie has always been rather in tune with others. Even at a young age she’s always been able to identify with others and their feelings. She may not always know exactly what the other person is feeling but she always tries to hear them out and understand, so she can then work out a way to help them through things. She’s the sort to feel things on behalf of those she loves too. Feeling their joy, their fear. It also means she spends a great deal of time worrying about other people’s feelings instead of her own. Perhaps making her a bit of a martyr..
-- LOVES: Cooking, Being a mother, Feeling needed, Helping people, Ballet Flats, Bananas, Over-sized sun-glasses, Picnics, Hannah-Barbera (in particular, Yogi and Scooby-doo), Cupcakes, Family, Animals, Horses, Her bestfriend/Brother-in-law, Her Daughter, Cuddles, Holding Hands, Vanilla scented things, Home cooked ‘hearty’ meals, Caramel, Alcoholic cider -- HATES: Conflict, Arguing, Yelling, Being so short and tiny, Eating Dinner alone, Driving at night, Feeling helpless, Thrill Rides, Gory Movies, Heights, Onions, Peanuts, Drugs, The affects of drugs on those she loves, Holey Socks
-- HISTORY !
Life in the Flemming house-hold was always a bit different. Jonathon and Elizabeth Flemming started out their married life with an inherited horse stable and riding school. It had been in Jonathon’s family since his great grandfather, and it was his joy to take it over. Though, running a business had stresses on the marriage, they did okay. It wasn’t as though Jon hadn’t been around it all his life, and knew how it worked. Instead of starting a family right away though, they chose to focus on the stables for a while. When they did try to start a family, they were both a lot older and complications arose. It took them a long time to actually fall pregnant, and were told it may not happen again.
The stable wasn’t the only thing the family inherited; They were also a rather religious couple. Both coming from Baptist families. Their beliefs in God led them to believe that perhaps they weren’t supposed to have any more children for a reason. Around the time Sophie was six, the reason became clear. The church they attended was approached by one of the congregation, looking for a family to take on a child for a time, while the child’s mother was in London under-going medical treatment. Having a lot of space, and a lot of love, they decided to volunteer. This was the start of things for the Flemmings. They registered as official foster parents, and had a constant flow of children through the house.
Sophie never minded much. There was plenty of space to escape to if the people in her house got to much. Not to mention the O’Shea’s house. Despite the difference of religion, the O’Shea and Flemming families got along well. Especially Sophie and Lucas, who was her age. The pair had been close since before she could really remember. He always just seemed like an extension of her family. She’d always felt a connection with him, and that connection became clearer as she got older. She’d just been on the verge of discovering that perhaps the connection was more than platonic, when things started to change. Well, with Lucas.
Looking back, she almost felt silly she hadn’t realised sooner. There had been so many signs. She was a smart young woman. Some of the kids her parents had fostered had been mixed up in similar things, and she’d learnt the signs at university when studying to become a school counsellor. It was just, she didn’t want to admit what was happening with her best friend. When she found him in the park that day though, she couldn’t deny it any longer. Something had to be done. He needed help. The day she felt like she lost Luke was the day she finally realised he needed help she couldn’t give. She had been walking home from a friend’s house through the park and seen him. He was completely out of it. He didn’t know where he was, or who she was even. It was that moment that her heart broke. She’d known about it all. But not yet had to face it. She was ashamed to say she was putting off having to deal with it. That night though, she sat with him on the park bench patiently waiting for him to come down and agree to go home. Making the decision that she couldn’t let it continue.
Helping Lucas was perhaps one of the most emotionally strenuous events in Sophie’s life. So it wasn’t much of a surprise that she bonded with Nathaniel, his brother. It was a gradual thing; but not long after Lucas was in rehab, She found herself accepting Nate’s marriage proposal, and a few years after that, she was pregnant. Her life was what she’d always wanted... Wasn’t it? At least, her daughter was. The birth of Holly was the best moment of her life; For a woman who’s always wanted children, that’s a hard moment to go past. The moment they placed the tiny pink baby in her arms was the happiest moment in Sophie’s life. Her world shifted the moment she held that precious little girl. She’d bonded with the baby while she was pregnant, sure, but holding her close? It was different. She fell in love a million times over with that little girl in those first few moments. Her life, quite literally, changed.
