-- MARGARET LOUISE CASPER !
-- NAME: Margaret Louise Casper -- NICKNAMES: Margie, Maggie, Mags -- AGE & BIRTHDAY: 25, January 9th -- BIRTH PLACE: Clarksville, Indiana -- ORIENTATION: Heterosexual -- OCCUPATION: Receptionist at Michael Scarn Paper Co. -- PLAYED BY: Rashida Jones
-- PERSONALITY !
-- KIND: Maggie is kind almost to the point where it's a fault. She doesn't like to step on anybody's toes and she goes out of her way to ensure that people aren't angry with her or a decision she's made. She has given up something she's wanted far too many times because she's been afraid of upsetting someone. Often times, however, that makes her a big pushover. It's a large part of the reason she's merely working as a receptionist instead of working on becoming an architect like she's dreamed of for years. She has her rare moments when she'll step out of her comfort zone to step up for herself, but usually by the time she works up the courage for it, the damage has already been done and she's just spitting at extinguished fire. When someone doesn't like her, no matter how irrational it is, she has the bad habit of worrying about it far more than what's necessary. Sometimes, fretting about it keeps her up at night and she goes too far trying to right the situation. Being kind does, however, work to her advantage. She's a well-liked person considering she's friendly to anyone who gives her the chance and she doesn't often do things to irritate people. Being kind also makes her good at what she does because she's the first thing people see when they walk into the office and she's always been pretty personable.
-- PLAYFUL: Her job isn't very thrilling. Sure, there's the day-to-day surprise of what shenanigans some of her co-workers/her boss will get into before five o'clock, but for the most part, she spends her days sitting around at a desk playing Solitaire, making copies, and answering phones. To try and spice things up, Maggie has taken it upon herself to come up with little games to occupy herself. She enjoys playing practical jokes on certain co-workers with her best friend in the office and fills her time up with things like that. This has spilled over to her life at home as well. She's gotten tired of trying to get her fiance to spend time with her or do housework instead of coming home and playing video games, so she's adopted the phrase "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em." Basically, she's always up to playing a game of some sort. She loves anything that can make her laugh, and it's not difficult to get her to do so. Even if she isn't all that satisfied with what she's doing in her life, she's often in good spirits regardless, trying to make the best of what she does have. Margaret cracks a lot of jokes and makes a lot of good-natured sarcastic cracks to people she knows can take it. She always has some sort of witty comment in her back pocket.
-- SAFE: Maggie is a woman with a lot of potential. If she had really done what she wanted to do, she could easily be working her way up to being a well-respected architect. The fact of the matter is, however, she always takes the safe route. Risks were never really her thing. Capeside is padded. Her relationship is padded. Her job is padded. All of those are very unlikely to fail her and even if they do, it won't take her long to get back onto her feet. She knows that without risk there comes no rewards but she's too afraid to step out of her comfort zone. She feels as though she isn't a strong enough person to endure any type of failure. She's afraid that if she doesn't make it, people will be disappointed in her and she'll have lost everything. Whenever she gets a bout of courage and tries to better herself, something holds her back and instead of fighting it, she just lets it happen. Margaret frustrates herself to no end with that habit of hers but so far, she hasn't had the push it will take to get her to take a leap.
-- LOVES: architecture, drawing, the people she works with, her fiance (most of the time), video games (they've grown on her, to an extent), baking, solitaire, reading, practical jokes, harry potter. -- HATES: her job, having nothing to do, not living up to her full potential, horror films, snakes, the idea of not doing anything with her life, that damn copier, lifetime movies, politics, her mattress.
-- HISTORY ! Margaret didn’t live a very exciting childhood. Born in Clarksville, Indiana, she grew up with a close, tight-knit family consisting of her parents and a brother three years her junior. She was well behaved and very focused on her studies. From a young age, she showed a large interest in the more creative side of things. She had her small group of friends and, for the most part, she was comfortable. In fact, it wasn’t until the eighth grade that something really significant happened in her life- her father lost his job. Being the main source of income for the family, the Caspers took a pretty big hit. They had never been rich but they were comfortable. Just a few months later, they received word that her grandfather had fallen ill. So, with little to keep them in Indiana and a need for them elsewhere, the family picked up and moved to Capeside.
It was there where Maggie really flourished. Sure, it was tough, but she was going into high school with a fresh start. It took her a little bit to stop being ‘that new girl’ but eventually she found her niche. She had friends, good grades, and she was discovering that she was actually really good at things. It was a wonderful feeling. Her father eventually found another job in Capeside and, with the exception of her grandfather struggling with his health, things were good.
The issue was that Maggie felt secure in the success she found in Capeside. After graduation, she didn’t want to let that go. She didn’t want to take that leap and go after what she truly wanted because she was scared of crashing and burning out in the real world. So instead of pursuing her passion for architecture, she decided to just attend college in Capeside.
It was there where she met her now-fiancé. Not only did they have a class together, but they continuously kept running into each other from there. Slowly but surely they became friends and then, later, began to develop feelings for one another. Eventually they began to date and became a power couple of sorts. With her self esteem padded once again, near the conclusion of her Sophomore year she applied to Columbia University, which she heard had one of the best architecture programs on the planet. Surprisingly, she got accepted, but was forced to decline the offer when her boyfriend expressed his hesitance with her going so far away. Instead, she remained at Capeside and got a degree in English, which she still has no idea what to do with.
After graduation, she moved in with her boyfriend, who had since become a worker down in the warehouse of the Michael Scarn Paper Company. He scored her a job and Maggie has been working there ever since. Roughly two years ago, the two of them got engaged, but they have yet to set a date and she’s starting to get a bit restless.
