-- KATHRYN CAMILE DE LUCA !
-- NAME: Kathryn Camile (née Katkins) De Luca. -- NICKNAMES: Kat. -- AGE & BIRTHDAY: 33. June 3. -- BIRTH PLACE: Capeside. -- ORIENTATION: Heterosexual. -- OCCUPATION & SCHOOL GRADE: Dance instructor. -- PLAYED BY: Amy Adams.
-- PERSONALITY !
-- PASSIONATE: Kathryn wears her heart on her sleeve. If she’s upset, she will yell. If she’s hurt, she will cry and if she’s merry, she will throw her head back and let out a hearty laugh. The latter happens quite often too. She’s a bit of a ball of energy and likes to be interacting with people, chatting, laughing, gossiping, offering help and support when needed and just creating a bond. She’s empathic and social and a bit unable to stand still. This is actually quite handy seeing as she needs to take care of a small child and give dance lessons to more than one group a day. Motherhood is the one thing that managed to flip Kat’s usually nocturnal schedule: she’s now sound asleep by eleven. But Kat’s sense of humor can override any other one of her moods and she tries to keep up a good attitude about most things. -- DEDICATED: Her own parents couldn’t believe the change, but Kat has really grown into a real woman. She runs a household, teaches, raises her kids and does it all as effectively as she can manage. Things don’t always go well, but she tries. Sometimes she fights with her daughter, with her husband, burns dinner, is late to places, fails to button her blouse right, and oftentimes she’s either too tired or too uninterested to have sex (or she doesn’t feel pretty enough, seeing as there’s barely time to go to a saloon). Sometimes it’s all overwhelming, but Kat has made a vow to not complain no matter how foul a mood she’s in. Because, really, as much as she once wanted to be on stages around the world, her daughter and unborn child are her world and she wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. -- RESENTFUL: Despite all her personal growth, Kat has trouble communicating when in a dark mood. She holds grudges and points fingers and brings up past offenses. She doesn’t forget and sometimes her grievances eat at her and turn her into a nasty person to be around. Kat has tried to learn to be more rational, more forgiving and she has succeeded at being more understanding. It has helped her overcome the bitterness. But she just wants more support and she wants her efforts to be noticed. You can easily tell when she's irked, because the usually very affectionate Kat (she touches people, gives out hugs, plants kisses on people, gives them pet names, etc.) turns cold and distant.
-- LOVES: Music, sunny days, dinner parties, her family, Capeside, dancing while doing chores, her husband playing guitar, shopping, sleeping, the color green. -- HATES: Having to be the one to hand out punishments, going to bed alone, diets, bugs, accidentally teaching her kid how to swear, - her mother crtisizing her, her hormones, the news, sewing, David Letterman.
-- HISTORY !
Kat was born and raised in Capeside to a middle class family, the youngest of three. Her father was an English college professor and her mother, a piano teacher. All three of their children grew to inherit their parents artistic inclinations: Kat’s older sister, Linda, moved to San Francisco to become a painter as soon as she was old enough; and her brother, Carson, did the same, except his destination was Los Angeles and his goal was to become an actor. Kat followed in their footsteps and left for New York to pursue dancing as a career. Their father had once attempted to make a living off writing as well, but he had never quite made it and instead had chosen to take a steady job for their family. By the time Kat moved to the city, neither of her siblings had really achieved anything and she was determined to be the one to break the curse and get to perform in Lincoln Center. Her determination wasn’t enough, though, because Kat found it hard to deliver the discipline the job required. She had always been told she had talent and the right feet and body and that she showed tons of potential. However, she was always constantly being chastised by her teachers and her parents and most authority figures. The three siblings had always been somewhat rebellious and liked marching to the beat of their own drum; very artistic, see. Kat liked parties and drinking and smoking and trying a fun drug or two and New York turned out to be so much more consuming in all its wonders than she could have anticipated; it was not the place for someone so young and impressionable and with as much energy as Kathryn. It was only logical that she would end up dating a musician, right? And it was only logical that another musician would come along and that Kat would realize she wasn’t really in love with the first one and cheat on him with the second. Not her best moment, she knows that; but it’s not as if she had a meaningless fling: she actually did fall in love with Marco even if the execution of the whole thing was messy. She loved him so much in fact that she married him. It was perfect. They were young and in love and lived in New York and he was looking to join a band and she was looking to get hired by a company. And then she got pregnant. It was a surprise. She had thought about it, definitely, but not as something the couple would be doing any time soon. Luca was so happy however and his joy was so contagious that Kat couldn’t help get greatly excited by the whole thing. Her priorities quickly and suddenly changed. And she did not want to raise a kid in the city that had turned her youth into a constant party. So they moved back to the town where she had enjoyed her childhood so and left their artistic dreams behind. It’s amazing how much maternity changed Kat. She took on the responsibility with love and devotion and made her family her whole world. Dancing took a back seat as Kat started teaching at a local dance studio in order to chip in. Every now and then, the bitterness at having abandoned her dreams of success may surface; on the bad days, when her little girl is difficult to deal with or when her husband seems distant and she feels as though she’s left alone to be sole grown up and deal with life. It's not always easy. She knows he gave up his dreams too, but his refusal to mature can be very frustrating. However, when they decided to expand their little family, all her fears faded. At least temporarily. She’s now a few months pregnant again. And she’s afraid things are changing between her and Marco.
