-- NAME: celina joselyn cole -- NICKNAMES: lina -- AGE & BIRTHDAY: 21 & february 3rd -- BIRTH PLACE: new york, new york -- ORIENTATION: heterosexual -- OCCUPATION & SCHOOL GRADE: nurse -- PLAYED BY: laura schuller
-- PERSONALITY !
-- RECLUSIVE: If someone were to see Celina out and about for anything other than very specific purposes, it would also mean that pigs could fly and ice cream was no longer delicious. She keeps to herself as much as possible and doesn’t really have any friends. That’s not to say that she’ll be completely rude and ignore someone who attempts to talk to her, but she’ll most likely be incredibly uncomfortable the whole time. If she’s not a work then she’ll most likely be found in her small apartment, avoiding computers and phones-- not that anyone but work would be calling for her. To some extent she has a fear of the outside world but even at that she never can quite find herself relaxing at home. She always has her guards up as if someone is watching her. -- PAINFULLY INDEPENDENT: One of the things that Celina loathes most is when people try to do things for her. She rarely appreciates the gesture; instead, she takes it as a sign that people don’t believe she’s mentally or physically capable to do whatever it is that needs to be done, whether it’s handle a large patient load or carry heavier groceries to her car. She doesn’t believe in marriage for the same reason; she believes that if she marries someone, every ounce of her independence will be gone. That, and she’s terrified of men. Of course, due to her rather traumatic past, one could certainly see why she would much rather be on her own than associate with male company. -- CONTROLLING: Despite the fact that she hates people who control things, she tends to be quite controlling herself. That mixes with her desire to be so fiercely independent; she believes it’s much better to have her own way. That being said, she is no where near heartless; you just have to really peel back her layers to get a better sense of her. That is also why, despite her aversion to the public, she became a nurse. Not only did she need a job to support herself, but there was a burning part of her that wanted to take care of people so that they wouldn’t be in the same pain she had felt in the past. She would never admit this to anyone, mind you, but it’s the truth. She doesn’t want to see others in pain.
-- LOVES: cats, goldfish, ballet flats, popcorn, coffee, the scent of vanilla, pumpkin spice tealight candles, paper lanterns, fresco paintings, vodka and lemonade, shark documentaries, yoga -- HATES: men, controlling people, crowded places, watching movies in theatres, musicals, air fresheners, bead jewelry, stain glass windows, loud noises, cars, buses, airplanes, smokers
-- HISTORY !
Colleen Hendricks never wanted children. She never wanted to marry and she never wanted to reproduce. And yet she found herself with two children, a boy and a girl. When she was fourteen, her rather twisted parents promised her to the son of someone they had financial ties with, Tristan Cole. When she was 17 and he was 23 they got married. Within the year, their first child, a son named Michael, was born. Colleen was not the motherly type, nor was Tristan the father figure he should have been. Neither of them wanted to be married and neither of them wanted Michael, but they knew that they were expected to have an heir to carry on the Cole line. They were terrible parents-- there was no other way to describe it. Colleen’s own mother died when she was young and so she was raised by her super strict father who didn’t hesitate to use physical abuse as punishment. Tristan’s mother was uncaring and addicted to shopping, while his father taught him that it was a man’s job to straighten out the woman. He grew up with the notion that women were there to serve the men, a thought process akin to those in the thirteenth century. So when Colleen and Tristan got together, he thought that his wife should serve him and do as he said. Colleen, after going through the abuse from her father, followed along.
The one thing they were joined in was their dislike for the child. Michael cried, he pooped, he barfed; he did everything a baby did, as usual, but they were not equipped to handle it. They took care of his basic needs with a grimace on their faces and kept him in the basement so they didn’t have to hear him cry when they tried to sleep. They kept him down there for years, taking him out every once and awhile if he was being quiet. They preferred not to think about him and try to pretend like they didn’t have any kids. Unfortunately, Colleen became pregnant again and they were to have another child to worry about. They tried to keep both the kids in the basement-- they had made it into an unfinished room; it wasn’t like they were amongst cobwebs and old Christmas decorations-- but as the baby cried, Michael cried and became fussy. For Colleen and Tristan it was generally unbearable. They brought Michael to a room on the second floor but would lash out violently if he displeased them. They used violence as a punishment and would ignore him when he did something right. For their second child, a little girl named Celina, she had almost an identical upbringing.
However, when Michael went off to boarding school when he was eleven, Celina was fully subjected to all of her parents’ displeasure. Their marriage had never been great but now it was like living with two war generals from opposing sides. Her father planted it in her mind that she was nothing more than a man’s servant and his possession. He told her that she would grow up and her husband would be picked for her; she would have to go without complaint. Both parents hurt her when she did something wrong, leaving several strange scars on her body. The one she hates most is the one on her neck, the one she spends several minutes covering with make up every morning. Consequently, winter is her favourite season because she can just throw on her scarf to hide the scars, rather than use make up. When she was nine her father was barbecuing and she was arguing with him about something rather minor. The moment was rare as Celina rarely fought back, which was probably why he reacted in the way he did. Tristan shoved his daughter hard and her small body went flying towards the barbecue. She stumbled and fell partially into it, her neck hitting the grate before she fell to the ground. It took several weeks for it to heal properly after a nasty infection but eventually it healed to a rather unfortunate scar to partner the rest on her. After that argument, Tristan found his daughter to be even more disagreeable which lead to more violence against her. He toned it down when Michael came home and treated the children the equally-- though still badly-- and Celina didn’t tell her brother quite what was going on.
It wasn’t until she went away to boarding school and Michael was 16 that he learned what their father had done to her. He had grown up with the abuse and pretended to go along with their father’s opinions, when really everything the older man said disgusted him. He was always angry that his sister was subjected to the same treatment but begun to formulate a plan once he graduated. Two months before Michael was set to graduate, Colleen ‘fell down the stairs’ and found herself in critical condition. Because of the way her spine had twisted, she was paralyzed from the neck down with no chance of getting better. To make matters worse, she was essentially brain dead. Tristan pulled the plug on his wife and Michael easily came to the conclusion that he was the cause of the fall in the first place. Despite the fact that Michael wasn’t a fan of his cruel mother, his fear was that his sister would fall victim to a similar fate. So when he graduated, he killed his father. Ever since he’s been on the run and has changed his identity multiple times in order to hide from the police. Celina wasn’t sad that her mother was dead; she did fear for her own life like Michael feared for her. She repressed the image of seeing her father push her mother down the stairs and so she claims to not know what happen. In reality, it was just too much for her young mind to handle. After the murder of her father, Celina was left on her own. Obviously her brother couldn’t care for her and none of her relatives knew her well enough to want to take her.
Luckily for a good portion of the year she lived at boarding school. She stayed in the building for holidays with a few other people that she grew somewhat close to. As she grew up, she grew up with a fear of men and all that they’re capable of. Being at school was particularly stressful for her and she spent most of her free time in her dormitory where boys weren’t supposed to go. She threw herself into random things, though she didn’t care much about studying. Though she didn’t agree with everything her father taught her growing up, he was so constant with his sayings that many of them stuck in her mind. She never cared much about her classes because she was told that it didn’t matter if a girl was smart. That wasn’t to say she’s unintelligent, but she wasn’t a scholar. A close friend’s parents legally adopted her so that she didn’t have to go into the foster care system and she spent every summer with them. They were nice enough but rather strict, though they never raised a hand to their children. She spent most of her summers reading in her room and hiding away from her friend’s brothers-- though they’d never do anything to hurt her. When she graduated, she through herself into becoming a nurse. She took course throughout the entire year (which meant summer courses) so that she could get her degree in three years instead of four. She hated school but knew that she wouldn’t get a good job without a degree. Once she finally got her degree, she followed her friend’s family to Capeside partially because she needed to get out of the city in which she had been traumatized, but mostly because she needed a calmer life.

-- ACCEPTED ! Just a side note: traumatizing abuse like this is a very touchy subject to instill in a character. Just be careful and try not to make her completely centric to it.
