“Dad, is this really necessary? You can just go get a new ball.” Landon rested his sunglasses between the feathery thickness of his auburn hair, exposing his eyes as he watched an older image of himself trying to fish a golf ball out of a small pond. As much as one would enjoy the scenery of the well taken care of golf course, the pool of water looked quite horrific with layers of algae surrounding it. Landon had the same scenario of his father slipping and diving head first into the unknown replaying over in his mind. The worst part would have to be going in after him. “Seriously dad. It’s gone. I’m going to get another one.” The twenty-four year old pulled the shades back in front of his face and placed his golf club into its carrier. “You just stay away from the pond.” He urged at his father, only turning away when the older man stepped away from the waters edge. Luckily they were only a few holes away from being done, meaning they were close to the entrance that sat at the front of the course. A ride from the golf cart was not needed but as Landon headed down the path he started to question the severity of his father’s new interest. If he was this serious about golfing, then why wouldn’t he buy a pack of his own balls. Borrowing seemed like the cheap way to go and from someone who cared about their image, Landon expected better from his father.
“Can I get a ball please?” The tall brunette asked as he stepped to the front counter, watching two employees exchange a word and then walk away. From what he could hear, one was a trainee and needed to be shown where the golf balls were, seeing as they ran out in front. As he waited, Landon pulled his cell phone from the front pocket of his jeans and began typing a text to Audrey. ‘Being held hostage at the golf club. Help!’ He smirked slightly as the SOS was sent, hoping his friend would come to his rescue. Audrey was that one friend who he could do just about anything with. They were both very spontaneous and looked to one another for some excitement. She was like his partner in crime. They were the epitome of what best friends truly were. Like the saying, ’a true friend would bail you out of jail but a best friend would be there right next to you joking about how much fun they had’. That was Landon and Audrey. Never had they actually been to jail despite their little adventures of pool hopping. They were sneaky enough not to get caught and daring enough to have the time of their lives. Which was why he had little doubts that the blonde would show up with some excuse to get him out golfing.
Landon wasn’t one to have patience for the sport. If one ever really called golf a sport. It was not on his bucket list but it was apparently on his father’s. He knew that this new hobby wouldn’t last long. His father was always jumping from one new thing to the next. Something the two had in common, but Landon would support his father, even as he witnessed the older gentleman still trying to pry the lost ball out of the water with a club. “Here. I got a new one.” He claimed, placing the white object on the cue pin.

There were various pros and cons to living alone, as Audrey had come to realize. It was lonely, more expensive, and she actually had to get off her ass in order for the shopping to get done. And clean. God forbid, right? But there were good things about it as well. No competition for the bathroom. No random people showing up for her sister. No bridal magazines scattered everywhere. But the best thing about living on her own was undoubtedly the fact that she didn’t have to actually wear pants. Honestly, that was the number one perk and she was embracing that freedom like no other. No clothes? No problem. She was alone. It was as simple as that.
When she received Landon’s text, she was lounging around (in her underwear, of course) on the couch, watching reruns of the Golden Girls and eating Ramen Noodles. Honestly, at first, she had to wonder if it was worth getting up and leaving her apartment for. She’d worked late and had been looking forward to a lazy day, since she also had a day off from the shop. But Audrey didn’t really want to do that to Landon. He was too much fun. Sort of like her best friend, really- he was the kind of person she could get in a bundle of trouble with. Most people were too tame. Sure, she could dig it, but what was the fun? No. Landon would get as wild with her as she desired, and she appreciated that. It made life a lot more… Entertaining.
So, for a friend like that, Audrey would put pants on. Although, if they returned to her apartment, her pants would just come right back off. She had very little shame.
She had very little issues with her body. Sure, she knew she wasn’t the sexiest person on earth, but she knew she was pretty damn hot, at the very least. Hot enough to pull off the little stunt she planned to get Landon out of this situation. Since she had never met his father, it was safe to assume that it would work- perhaps there was an easier, less dramatic way to get him out, but she was never the kind of person to take the easy route. The more fun, the better.
Dressed in a rather form-fitting dress (a purposeful wardrobe decision, she promised), hair brushed out, Audrey drove the distance to the golf club. She wasn’t really sure where to find him, but one scan of the club building itself told her that he was probably out on the actual course. He could be anywhere. Brow furrowed, she spotted a younger man climbing into a golf cart and, with a huff, she caught up to him. A short exchange later and he’d agreed to drive her around until she found her friend. Once she had finally spotted Landon, she tipped the man for his troubles and pulled out her phone. ’Just go with it’ she texted him, a smirk on her face as she strolled over to the pair, intent in every step.
Upon reaching Landon, Audrey pulled him into a hug, not saying a word. She merely held the embrace for a few seconds before pushing him back, cocking her hand, and slapping him across the face- not as hard as she could, but still with a fair amount of strength. This would be something he’d have to make up a story for and explain to his father later, but she figured he’d be excused to go after a good looking woman who’d just slapped him in the face. Make Daddy proud, right? Or something. She wasn’t sure how the hell men worked. But at least it was an excuse.
Still not saying a word, she shot him a playful glare and turned on her heel, strolling towards the end of the course.
Well, he’d asked for a bit of excitement. Kind of.

Landon watched as his father finally gave in with a grumbled under his breath. The stubbornness was an inherited trait within the Carter family but the twenty-four year old only shook his head as he pulled his cell phone from his pocket. A slight vibration had given the indication that he had a new message and he hoped Aubrey wasn’t flaking on him. ’Is your text message that important?’ Landon scanned the words, intrigued, before responding to his father. “Actually it is.” He had just looked up after retreating his cellular device when a familiar blonde appeared out of no where. Before Landon could respond, Audrey had wrapped her slim arms around his built body. The embrace was refreshing but completely unexpected. For a moment, he thought back to her text message. ’Just go with it’. He questioned the meaning of this statement but was soon answered with a slap to the face. Not one word had been exchanged between the friends and that was Audrey’s very intention. Despite the slight tingling feeling upon his cheek, Landon would have to admit that her plan was clever and greatly executed.
He watched in awe as the blonde strode away, still contemplating his plan of action. ‘You’re just going to stand there?’ Landon turned to his father, realizing that never had he met Audrey. It was odd, considering how close the two were but perfect for this occasion. ‘Go get her.’ The middle aged man added, as if trying to give his son a boost. “Best idea you’ve had all day Pop.” Landon patted his father on the back, while handing off his golf club. He was only teasing but it was his cry for help that brought the blonde there in the first place. “I’ll call you later.” He waved a hand before jogging up the hill until his stride coincided with the female‘s. “Excuse me miss. It’s not every day a man gets slapped by a pretty woman. How do you expected me to explain myself?” He smirked, intrigued by the silly game they were playing. It’s what Landon enjoyed the most about being around Audrey. They could come up with the most ridiculous ways to entertain themselves, including roleplay to get each other out of just about anything. It wouldn’t have been the first time. He could recall playing the ‘boy friend’ role in order to keep creepy guys off her in the club. It was just how they rolled together.
Landon allowed his eyes to wander to his friend’s outfit, not so much checking her out but admiring the effort she put in to saving him. “Talk about playing the part. I don’t think heels are great to play golf in.” He teased, knowing that she had no intention of puting around balls. Audrey didn’t seem like the athletic type but Landon didn’t mind. He enjoyed her feminine nature. She was a gorgeous and did well maintaining her look. No doubt she had men trailing after her but Landon wasn’t one of them. Yes, they were flirty at times but there was a boundary that he didn’t want to cross with her. Maybe it was because they were such good friends and they got along so well. That type of connection was hard to find and he didn’t want to spoil it with some attempted relationship that would most likely not last. Landon had some trouble with girls, mainly because he fell for ones they he couldn’t have but he was serious about his relationships and with Audrey, he imagined nothing but games. Which was okay, in a friendship.
“Thank you.” Landon finally added for a nice gesture. She did, after all, save him. He wasn’t sure how much longer he would have lasted with his father.

Audrey was pretty confident in her sexual appeal so she wasn’t really concerned that her plan wouldn’t work. Then again, even if she wasn’t all that good looking, walking up and randomly hugging a person, then slapping them, was probably grounds for confusion of any sort. She was always pretty ridiculous and never liked doing things conventionally, so she was sure Landon wouldn’t have been surprised by her course of action. That’s what drew them together- their need for spontaneity and excitement. Where most people would give her odd looks for dragging them out at random times for dancing or trespassing or whatever shenanigans popped into her head, Landon just went along with her and she liked that.
Another thing she enjoyed was how he provided her with flirty banter. Sure, he’d never sleep with her (although she’d probably at least fool around with him, if only because he was sexy and not a jackass) but he gave her a reason to joke around with him, and she liked that. There wasn’t often a serious moment between the two, which was refreshing- she liked how he seemed like someone she could talk to if she really needed it, but mostly, he was just a fun person to hang around with. Not a whole lot of pressure. Never a dull moment. The perfect arrangement.
A smirk settled on her lips when he caught up to her, and when he fell into step she rested her hand on his shoulder, bumping their hips together teasingly. ”How?” she began, a mischievous look in her eyes, casting him a sidelong glance, ”Take me to bed, that’s how.” Audrey winked and stepped to the side, separating herself and glancing back to make sure they were well enough away from Landon’s father.
When he referenced her heels, she furrowed her brow and peered down at her choice of footwear, puffing out her bottom lip momentarily and shrugging. ”What can I say. A lady must look her best when handling giant clubs, am I right?” Winking, she jerked her head back. ”So why’d you need saving? I mean, I’ve managed to get you away now but at some point you’re going to have to figure out a story as to why you had someone was stunning as myself slapping the daylights out of you on a golf course. Which is all fine and dandy, but I do fear that you’ll start fantasizing and boy, that could get uncomfortable.” The smirk never left her face as she picked up her pace a little bit, sort of eager to just get back to her apartment and change back into something more comfortable. She loved dressing up, that was for sure, but only when she was going out. There was no need to look super fancy around Landon.
”Now. I’m taking you back to my place and we’re going to sit there and watch Golden Girls and I’m not going to wear pants and you’re going to deal with it,” she continued, rambling on. She had to pause for a second when her heel got stuck in a hole in the ground, having to grab onto Landon’s shoulder while she regained her balance. After swearing under her breath and shaking her head, she started to talk again. ”You don’t have to wear pants, either, but if you intend to have sex with me I need to be seduced first, so don’t think I’m going to be enticed by your scrawny legs right off the bat, Carter. I need romance.”
