Jenna felt awful. Not because she was sick or ill or anything, but she felt guilty as hell. Because, she was started to fall in love with Jade's new boyfriend, Charles. Some people would just shake their head at her, but this wasn't the first time it had happened. Jade was her older sister, and Jenna always somehow ended up falling a bit in love with Jade's boyfriends. The bad thing was that things between Charles and Jade seemed pretty serious, and Jenna hated herself even more because of that, because it made her insanely jealous. Why couldn't she just find a nice guy in her class or maybe even someone at her own age? If Jade ever found out about this, it would end in complete and utter chaos.
Jenna had been out for a run, it was something she always did when she was frustrated. And if she wasn't frustrated now, when was she? Normally she would run about 5 miles a few times a week, but today she had expanded a bit on that, because her life was a mess. And she needed to clear her head. After having running 6 miles, she returned to her parents' house where Jade and Charles also were residing currently, while they finished college. They were both seniors and even though they were old and mature enough to live for themselves, Jade had decided that they should stay with her parents. Oh well, Jade was still Jenna's sister. And they weren't as close as they had been before, but time would change everyone, right? And no matter how much Jenna respected Jade for not telling anyone about her miscarriage two years ago, she still felt like they were distant relatives and not sisters.
It had been a few months, since Jade and Charles had moved in with her parents again and at first, Jenna had been weird about another one of Jade's boyfriends, because it was always a new one, but Charles seemed to stick around and it seemed quite serious. But Jenna's feelings for him were also serious.. Oh, sigh. Jenna returned from her run and was wearing a pair of pink shorts, a black t-shirt, a pink sports-bra and some white/pink Nike trainers. And even though it only was April, it was still an fairly hot day. It was another dull Wednesday, and it was five in the afternoon. A sigh escaped her lips, as she entered the kitchen to find a bottle of cold water in the fridge. On the fridge there were a post-it from her father.
"J, darling. Let's go eat dinner tonight. Just you and me. Meet me at Chelli's Pizza at 6. Love you.
- Dad"
"J", could be both her and her sister. Since, Jenna and her father barely ever spoke, she guessed it was to Jade. Not that Jenna would mind. She took the post-it and heard the door open and heard Jade talking loudly and then the door closed and the voice got louder and louder. Jenna walked out to her sister and handed her the post-it. "From dad to you... I guess." She said with not much feeling at all, but headed back to the fridge and grabbed a bottle of water. Jade was talking to Charles, but Jenna avoided looking at him, she was too focused on her water. Jade looked at Jenna and nodded. "Chelli's Pizza... Used to be your favorite, isn't that right, Jenna?" Jade asked her sister a bit too sweetly. "Yeah, used to be, Jade. Now, if you please.." Jenna said and rolled her eyes discreetly, and met Charles' eyes for a second, but quickly she took another sip of her water and walked in to the table, sat down and found a fashion magazine, opened it and started reading.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,300] TAGGED FOR CANNDEE AS JENNA | HOPE IT'S OKAY!
Chip's relationship with Jade was actually more serious than any other relationship he'd ever been in, to be honest, but that didn't mean that they didn't have problems. Everyone always had problems though, right? I mean, it isn't like there's a couple out there that doesn't have any issues. But Chip found no pleasure whatsoever in hiding things from his girlfriend. But at the same time, he didn't want to tell her, or anyone else for that matter, that he had dropped out of medical school. And he had to go out every morning and come back pretending that he had been at college all day when he was really out on the streets, playing guitar, and at night he would go to a hotel and play piano. It was actually not bad pay, but it seemed Jade had always been fond of the fact that she was dating someone who was going to be a surgeon, and there was always the possibility she would tell his parents, who he was still trying to figure out how to tell. It was all very stressful. And of course, on top of that, Jade's little sister was very .. well, she was beautiful. Not that Jade wasn't beautiful, too, but, still.
Jade might be beautiful, but she was also a ticking bomb. Just waiting to explode, about anything. This was what Chip was now having to endure, Jade ranting about one of her professors, and, Chip, being the gentleman he was, was listening, though it was not at all one of his favorite topics. Luckily, though, her rant was interrupted by Jenna, who came in and handed her a post it note, making Jade forget what she was talking about (thankfully), and then without even looking at Charles himself, turned around again and kept walking. Chip felt the corners of his mouth turn down in a frown as Jade asked her about the restaurant in the most snarky voice, which in turn, made Jenna roll her eyes and catch Chip's eye. He offered her a soft, apologetic smile, and then she turned around and walked to the table instead. Then, Jade seemed bored with the situation and told Chip she was going upstairs to get ready for dinner with her father, leaving him downstairs with her sister. He sort of stood there quietly for a moment, just watching her and trying to decide if she would talk to him if he tried to talk to her.
Finally, he decided that it couldn't hurt to try, and otherwise it would seem pretty awkward and creepy if he was just standing there staring at her. So he slowly began his way to the table, pulling out one of the chairs and pointing at it. "Mind if I join you?" He asked, smiling down at her. "Looks like it's just you and me tonight. Well, unless Sheila will be joining us, but, still, I mean, otherwise.." He continued, until he realized that he was rambling, and then he shut up promptly, offering a sheepish grin and blushing softly, which was of course almost as embarrassing as the rambling. |

Sometimes it was like Jenna could feel Charles be just as bored as when Jade was talking. For Jade, everything had to be perfect and she was often rambling on about some professor and the only one who was visibly entertained by that was their father, but it was so rare they had these oh so special family dinners. Normally Jenna would just take an apple or maybe eat something very light with her mother and her father was often working... Well, when he wasn't out having dinner with precious Jade. Ugh, somehow she had a hard time understanding why Charles was in a relationship with her. Sure, Jade was the beautiful of the two of them... And she was bright, or that was what her and her father thought. Jade was in fact a manipulative bitch, wasn't she? And Charles seemed like a guy looking for some fun. More fun than Jade could give him, that was.
Jade had this certain gift or ability, whatever you wanted to call it, to make Jenna feel so incredibly small. Chelli's Pizza had indeed been her favorite restaurant for a lot of years, back when she was still talking to her dad, but things changed and it was obvious that Jade took advantage of that now that she was home. Jenna didn't said anything, nor did she even look up when Jade told Charles that she was going upstairs to get ready. Jenna just discreetly rolled her eyes, when she heard Jade kissing his lips. Ugh, Jade was sickening 98 % of the time. But still, it seemed like she hadn't told anyone about her "mistake" two years ago, and Jenna sort of respected her older sister for that.
After a minute or so, she heard a chair scratching against the floor. It was being pulled out. It was the chair across her, and then she looked up when she heard Charles' very British accent. Damn his accent. It was one the biggest turn-ons, really. And then his smile. Jenna tried her best not to blush and she was certain that she succeeded. No one could know that she had a crush on her sister's boyfriend. But Blair, Felicity and Olivia already knew, but they didn't talked to Jade or any of her friends. If first Jade knew, hell would break loose. Jenna snapped out of her thoughts, cleared her throat, closed her fashion magazine and shook her head. "Please. I could use some sane company, if you know what I mean.." She said and looked deadly serious for a few seconds, before sending him a bright smile.
Sheila, aka her mother would most likely not join them. Wednesdays was the day of her weekly book club, so it would indeed just be Jenna and Charles. Would be nice enough, as long as Jenna could manage to keep her feelings inside her self. "My mom won't join us. She's got her book club, remember? So, just you and me. Jenna said and looked around, before taking another sip of her water bottle. This run had drained her completely. After a few minutes, Jade came downstairs again, looking as stunning as ever. "Jenna, be nice to Charlie, right? I want my beloved boyfriend back when I return." Again, Jenna rolled her eyes. "Don't worry, Jade. I won't say a word to him." Jenna said and couldn't look back to him now, because when Jade was there she saw everything, so instead Jenna just walked to the bathroom and gave them time to say goodbye, so Jenna shouldn't see them kissing more than she wanted to.
After about half a hour, Jade was gone and the house was all silent. Jenna was dressed in sweatpants and a sweater from Stanford, her dad's university, but it was insanely comfortable. Jenna walked inside the big living room and saw him sitting on the couch, reading the newspaper. "Sorry about that earlier." She said, looked at him, biting her lower lip, sending him an apologetic smile and walked over in the direction of the liquor cabinet. "You want a vodka soda? I think I'll make them quite good." Yes, sure. Jenna was underage, but she had done this several times before, when she had been home alone. Just to cope with everything, it made her relax. And forget about Jade being a bitch.

Chip looked visibly relieved as Jenna gave him full permission to sit across the table from her, and informed him that she was in need of sane company, and before he could even tell if she was being serious or not, he busted out into a loud round of laughter, and then he covered his mouth and looked over where Jade had exited. "Oh, I think I know precisely what you mean, but I don't know if I'll be able to quite fit that description," He agreed, grinning as he turned back to see Jenna, who was smiling. His own grin relaxed a little as he noticed her smile, glad she was at least acknowledging him now. Whenever Jade was around, she was an entirely different person, it seemed to Chip. And he wondered about it, but he didn't dare ask either one about it. Because honestly, he knew he'd get two very different responses if they both decided to even tell him about it. So worrying about it was probably stupid and pointless, but it still seemed to weigh on his mind often, the hatred the two girls seemed to have for one another.
"Ohh, right," He nodded quietly, remembering the girls' mother's book club. To be quite honest, Chip had never actually seen a point in book clubs. Why would you have a club for books? What did you even do in a book club? Sit there and read? But there was no way you'd ever find him voicing that opinion. He would rather actually attend a book club than tell Mrs. Montgomery that he thought the idea of a book club was ridiculous. Partly because he was far too kind to even consider saying something like that, and also partly because she kind of scared him. "Fun.." he continued weakly, not really sure what he should say next. "So uh, what did you have in min-"
And before he could finish his sentence, Jade was back, looking stunning as ever, telling Jenna to be nice. And again, Charles was interrupted, this time before he could even speak, as Jenna excused herself and Jade came closer for a goodbye kiss. "Jenna's always nice to me, though," He managed to say with a charming smile before Jade closed in on him. He was a little disappointed at Jenna's response, but he couldn't make her talk to him if she was so dead set against it, so he kept quiet about it after his initial gentle rebuff. It would certainly be a quiet evening without Jenna or Jade or even one of their parents (who were both equally terrifying for poor Charles), but he would have to make do somehow.
The next half hour was just as quiet as he'd expected it to be. At first he sort of wandered around the house, exploring a little, if you will, but eventually he finally just sat down on the couch and read the paper. He would have gotten out his guitar and played a little music, but he was afraid it'd disturb Jenna because he really had no idea what she was doing, so he just had it laid across the other side of the couch, though it was really quite tempting. His head shot up from scanning (no, not reading, scanning, trying to find something interesting other than the comics) the paper when he heard Jenna enter the room again, and he smiled at her words, shaking his head. "Nothing to apologize for," he answered, watching her as she walked across the room, heading straight for the liquor cabinet, which confused him a little. Wasn't she only seventeen, or something like that?
"Well, I thought- but you.." He paused and shook his head, "Uh, I mean, no, thank you. Not really an alcohol fan," He grinned. It was true, it just never really appealed to him. "Not an advocate for underage drinking, either, but hey, I won't say anything." After all, he didn't want her hating him or anything. Plus, it seemed everyone had their own little secrets and if it helped her, he wasn't one to judge. Much. |

Jenna felt like she missed something in her life. And even though what a lot of people would think, her life was nowhere near perfect. Only on the outside, but Jenna felt kind of miserable most of the time. Except from when she was with Felicity, Blair and Olivia. And since she had discovered her feelings for Charles, also him. But again, no one knew or could know about it. Jenna felt comfortable enough in his company to wear nothing but sweatpants and an old, over washed sweater. Even though, Jenna was probably the biggest fashionista you would find around Shoreline Heights. But sometimes it could be boring to dress nicely and when she was at home, most of the time she didn't had to please anyone. Okay, that was a lie. She kinda wanted to impress Charles, but today had been a sucky day, so she felt like she was excused, and besides, Charles hadn't said anything about her clothes, so it couldn't be all wrong.
Jenna had a feeling that he wouldn't tell her parents about her drinking vodka soda. This family was so messed up that a drink every now and then didn't hurt anything or anyone. At least, as long as no one over the age of twenty-one knew about Jenna taking a drink a night a week. Oh well, she had been drunk several times before. Normally when she took a drink here it was just to cope with the stress and constant pressure that weighed on her shoulders. And it made her relax. Jenna looked at him when he seemed to lose the words, but then shrugged and made a perfect vodka soda, and wandered over to sit in a comfy chair across him, pulling her feet up and placed the glass with the drink on the table in front of her. "As long as you won't tell anyone, I'm satisfied. I guess, I can't ask for anything else. But truth being told, you must have realized by now, that this family is insanely fucked up. That is why I drink at home. I'm not a crazy alcoholic or anything.. It makes me relax." She confessed and took a sip of it and smiled at him and then first now she saw the guitar laying next to him on the couch.
Now when she thought about it, the truth was that she didn't really knew anything about Charles. Other than he was dating Jade, was twenty-two years old, from London and his major was medicine. But he also seemed like a really nice guy, way too nice for Jade. And Jenna knew that she was maybe just a tad bit in love with him. But that was so wrong. She hardly knew anything about him. Sigh. But fuck that. Jenna knew she had some sort of feelings for him. Then she snapped out of it, blinked and pointed at the guitar. "I didn't knew you played guitar.. I bet that was why Jade fell for you." Jenna knew that was a downward lie. Jade was only interested in power and money and the fact that Charles was majoring in medicine meant that he was going to be rich someday and that was all that mattered for Jade. Silly, shallow girl. Jenna appeared to be the same way, but all the boys she had slept with had only been because she had been drunk. With Charles, it was all different. He was something else, he actually seemed like he had a heart and was quite intelligent. But the fact that he was dating her sister, made it all impossible. Plus, he probably didn't had any of those feelings for Jenna. That was too much to expect.
Jenna heard his grin and swooned on the inside, smiling at him. Why couldn't she help but think about kissing him whenever he was laughing or smiling? And his beautiful, perfect, gorgeous British accent made it even harder for her to resist him, but oh well. She had to, if she wanted to live. Jenna just hoped that Jade would realize that Charles wasn't the right guy for her.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,300] TAGGED FOR CANNDEE AS JENNA | HOPE IT'S OKAY!
Charles hadn't been living with the Montgomery's for a very long time, but he had already decided that they were all a little crazy. However, they were also American. Making them already pretty strange. No offense ever intended, of course. However, this was also something that would never be said out loud. So when Jenna agreed with his internal thoughts, he only grinned again, holding back his laughter. He really, really wanted to agree. But that would seem rude, so he kept it in, of course, just like everything else.
"Don't worry. I understand." Was all that he said, as he folded up the newspaper and tossed it on the table, and then there was a slight silence, as it seemed that Jenna noticed his guitar, and sat there staring at it for an extended period of time. She seemed like she was very lost in thought, so he sat quietly, waiting for her to snap back to reality. And then she pointed to his guitar, and he turned and looked at it as she spoke, and again, he smiled. "Yeah. I would say that piano is more my forte, though, still. And as for Jade.. Well, I don't think she's actually ever.. heard me play before." Chip's face fell slightly as he admitted this. The fact that Jade didn't actually seem to care about his passion was rather.. disheartening, to say the least. Really, the least she could do was pretend to care. It wasn't like it was something that was unbelievably disgusting or anything. It was just music. And according to his (secret) piano and guitar teachers, he was brilliant at it. He always had a knack for musical things. He played by ear, he could read music but playing by ear was always more exciting for him, he could put his own little twist on it. He couldn't really do that as easily when it was written down, it seemed.
But regardless of how Jade thought about it, Jenna looked interested enough, actually, the first person he knew personally that really seemed to care whether or not he played. So, quietly, he furrowed his eyebrows together and stared at her for a few seconds before he picked it up and brought it closer to himself. "Shall I play you a little something?" He asked with another smile, tilting his head to the side as he waited for her response. To be honest, Chip would probably not be offended if she didn't want him to play for her, he was so used to it by now. Jade usually complained of a headache or something of the like so she could get out of listening to him, or else he would play at the Montgomery's just as much as he played on the street, which, as he didn't actually go to college anymore, was a lot.
Playing piano at the hotel was just a way to make a little money, because he had a feeling when he told Jade he dropped out of college that he would not be welcome in her house any longer, depressingly enough. And he knew his parents wouldn't take a college dropout in, so he would be left fending on his own. Jenna, though.. Jenna didn't seem to be the kind of person who would throw him out because he dropped out of college. You know, when he thought about it, she didn't seem like the kind of person who would tell anyone, if he told her.. but then again, Jade would probably be unlikely to forgive him if he told her little sister before her.

It was like whenever someone could play an instrument they were just ten times hotter in Jenna's opinion. It was probably not just her that felt like that, she was certain that all girls would find a boy who could play guitar and maybe even sing to be a whole lot cuter than he was before the girl knew it. But it helped her a lot when Charles said he understood, that kinda gave her the impression that he was used to something like that. Maybe his family was quite fucked up too? If they were, he was good at hiding it. Because he said he didn't was a fan of alcohol, so he maybe had another way of dealing with it. Jenna decided she should ask him later how his family was like. But not now, now she was kind of interested in the his guitar and of course she wanted to hear him play. Maybe he could sing too? Ooh, that would just make him 100 times hotter than he was already. Damn Jade.
Before Jenna answered if she wanted to hear him play, she thought about it. And wondered how many knew about this and just how much he played? It couldn't be that much, because being a senior in college was pretty rough from what she heard, it required a lot of reading and preparation. Being a junior in high school was nothing compared to college life, as far as she had heard. So, Jenna had absolutely nothing to complain about - not school wise that was. Family wise, it could be a lot better. But didn't all teenagers hate their families? Jenna wasn't the only one. She then remembered that he had asked her if he should play something on his guitar for her. Jenna couldn't help but send him a big, bright smile. This was ought to be good, and his smile after he had asked was the cutest thing, Jenna had seen in a long time. It was the most honest and happy smile she had seen on his lips in almost all the time he had lived here in the house. Oh wow, it was really something. After a fee seconds, she realized that she was probably staring a bit at him, so she shook her head and nodded. "That would be awesome. Guitars have always been my favorite instrument. Take it away, Gary Moore." Jenna teased and winked at him, before slightly blushing and taking another small sip of her vodka soda.
The fact that Jenna now knew that Charles was playing the guitar made her feelings for him grow a little stronger. But she could never show it to him or let him know. It would literally be the end of her life as she knew it. If Jade found out, oh boy. Hell would break lose. Now she just sat there, waiting for him to play something for her.

Saying he understood was true. Charles could understand where someone needed something to help deal with life. But his was somewhat.. healthier. Making music never hurt anyone. Except maybe a really bad violin player. But Charles never even tried the violin before, personally, so he wouldn't actually know. He sat patiently and waited as she seemed to forget that he'd asked her if she'd like to hear him play a little something. And then finally, she remembered, looking back at him and smiling back before she agreed to letting him play her something.
At this, he grinned back mischeviously at her before he looked back down at the guitar, missing her blush altogether and began to strum the chords to Gary Moore's own song, Still Got The Blues, with of course, his own personal little twist on it. It was easier to sing along while he played for Chip, but he still wasn't so sure how he sounded as he sang. He knew he could play guitar and piano, but the singing thing, was a little more personal, for some reason. But then again, Jenna hadn't laughed at him yet. So he shrugged and just went with it, softly, at first, but as the song progressed, his voice got a little louder.
He was never shy about playing an instrument, as long as everyone was okay with it. Singing, not so much. He was a naturally pretty quiet and unconfident guy. But he felt comfortable around Jenna. He wasn't really sure if he'd ever be able to play or sing to Jade like this, she never cared enough. As he finished off the song, he stared down at the floor for a few seconds, and then he looked back up with another soft smile. "What do you think, was it worth my quitting college over?" He asked, and then felt his eyes go wide. Wait.. did he just say that out loud? Would it sound like a figure of speech? Would she make the connection? Hopefully not.
Dear, oh dear. This was not good. He laughed nervously, trying to make it sound like he wasn't being serious, like it was a joke, though that probably wouldn't work so well now that he thought about it, with the pained face he made after he'd realized he had actually said it. Well, that had screwed everything over. So much for telling Jade first, unless Jenna was less perceptive than he'd pictured her to be. |

Gary Moore was one of her biggest idols. Jenna had actually a very diverse taste in music. Depended on her mood and what she was doing. When she was studying, Enya was some of the best, when she was partying some of the typical pop/dance was the best and sometimes when she was feeling down or in her thoughtful mood, the more rocking music like Gary Moore was the best. Made her relax and just forget about the world and her parents being mean and cruel. Then before she knew it, she heard in fact one of her favorite songs - Still Got The Blues, by none other than Gary Moore. Charles played it very well and she really liked his own little twist.
But it was when he started singing too that she seriously swooned. A permanent smile was plastered across her face, because it seemed like his voice really hit her deep inside her heart. Wow, he was really talented. If Jade had been here, she would have realized right away that something was up between Jenna and Charles. Or at least between Jenna and Charles' music. This was pretty awesome. After a few minutes, he ended the guitar playing and singing and didn't met her eyes right away. But then he did and Jenna looked straight in his eyes and at the same time, she bit her lower lip and now, after his performance here, she was totally sure - she didn't needed to know anymore about him and his past - Jenna was in love with Charles Winchester, her big sister's boyfriend.
Then he asked whatshe thought and the thing he said after that surprised her and caught her off guard somehow. But it wasn't that big of a chock really. "Since you quitted college, I think you should focus completely on your music. Charlie, it was really good! Better than that. It was the best cover I ever heard of that song. Do me a favor and do something serious about this." She said, nodded and sent him a bright smile. "With a talent like yours, I know you wouldn't be a good surgeon. So, it's all for the best, Charlie. Trust me." Jenna then thought about something. She wondered if Jade knew about this.. Well, most likely not.
Jenna looked at him for moment, before sending him a caring smile. "Jade doesn't know, does she?" Jenna asked and stood up and walked over to sit next to him. She really cared about him and wanted nothing but the best for him.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,300] TAGGED FOR CANNDEE AS JENNA | SORRY FOR THE WAIT!
Charlie grit his teeth as Jenna continued with having caught his little slip up. "Well, that was the general idea, anyway," he said through gritted teeth, forcing a smile at her. Of course he wasn't angry with her. Just himself, for letting it slip before he even told his parents, or his girlfriend. It wasn't his fault she'd actually cared about his music and made him feel all comfortable and it just slipped. And she was being so nice about it. But still, he felt like this should not be happening now.
"That and the fear of blood, and the fact that I couldn't even dissect a frog in grade school without throwing up or passing out, tells me I'd never be a great surgeon whether I wanted to or not." He said with an almost bitter edge to his voice. And that was saying a lot, as it was coming from Chip, who, was never ever bitter, no matter what. Yet, bitterness still seeped in through his voice, but he shook it off. Jenna didn't deserve that, it wasn't her fault, he'd already decided this. It was bound to happen eventually, his spilling the beans. Yet Jenna was not who he'd expected it to pop out for. He sighed as she asked if Jade knew, and he shook his head slowly. "Well, what do you think? Am I still here?" He said, putting his guitar down gently on the floor and leaning back on the couch, staring up at the ceiling. "..I'm sorry, that was rude." He frowned, shaking his head and closing his eyes, putting his hands over his eyes. Even with everything going on and so much to worry about, being rude was the last thing he wanted, it was like there was something psychologically messed up with him, he didn't even know what was wrong with him, his priorities were seriously screwed the wrong way. What he really wanted was a hug.. but asking Jenna for a hug just made him sound even more pathetic than he already was, and he obviously didn't want that. Sadly enough, that vodka soda was sounding more and more welcoming.
But if he couldn't even tell his girlfriend's sister that he had dropped out of college without a drink, how was he supposed to tell his girlfriend? Wasted out of his mind? No, thank you. "You won't .. tell her, will you? I mean, I'm going to, of course.." He paused again, and grimaced, peeking out through his fingers at Jenna. "Eventually.." He trailed off. |
