-- BROOKLYN JANE ANDERSON !
-- NAME: brooklyn jane anderson -- NICKNAMES: brook -- AGE & BIRTHDAY: twenty-five, december 3rd -- BIRTH PLACE: cleveland, ohio -- ORIENTATION: heterosexual -- OCCUPATION: accountant for the dawes corporation and waitress. -- PLAYED BY: amber tamblyn
-- PERSONALITY !
-- FUNNY: Let me start off by saying that it's not a guarantee that everyone would consider her to be this way. However, she's always cracking jokes regardless. She has the potential to be sarcastic when she wants to be, as well as very quick-witted. She often makes herself the object of her jokes. She's a very playful person, always wanting to make a moment lighthearted. Brooklyn grew up in a household where she was surrounded by testosterone and Saturday Night Live, so a lot of her jokes are relatively crude, as well. She uses joking around as a sort of defense mechanism, which perhaps is not the easiest way to deal with things, but it's all she knows how to do. When she's feeling awkward, she'll crack a joke. Laughter tends to be contagious, so a lot of her logic is that if she can keep those around her laughing, then she could never be too down. It's a flawed notion, of course, but it's worked out for her for the most part so she feels no need to switch it up at all. She tries not to hurt anyone's feelings when joking around, although sometimes more sensitive people may get offended if she accidentally takes things too far. She'll normally backtrack and apologize, however, if she gets the impression that she said something wrong.
-- RESERVED: Growing up with as many brothers as she did (most of them being the tougher type), Brooklyn was raised in an environment where emotions weren't dealt with in the best ways. Yes, she witnessed a lot of walls being punched. Yes, she tried that once (but broke her hand in the process- opted not to try that again). But with her generally even temper, she's found it a whole hell of a lot easier to just bury her emotions. This is where the humor comes in. Whenever faced with a challenging situation, she's found that the more ways she finds to joke about the situation, the easier it gets for her to keep up the appearance that she's fine. Not many people have ever seen her cry. She's afraid to be viewed as weak, so if she absolutely can't help it, she fights off the tears until she's completely alone. It wasn't like she felt like she wouldn't be supported if she did break down, but she was just used to the idea that crying and whatnot being just a bad idea altogether. Of course, as with any process of bottling up emotions, she has a tipping point that she's trying to avoid at all costs. Reserved also describes the fact that she's never been the most outgoing person. Sure, she does alright in the friend department. She's not necessarily a hermit. But she's definitely got a calmer personality, preferring quiet nights in as opposed to loud nights out, though they can be fun. Normally, the bigger the group of people, the quieter she gets. Brook is certainly the last person who is going to take charge unless it's absolutely necessary. She doesn't mind going up to someone and striking up a conversation if she needs to, but at the same time, she'd prefer if that weren't a necessity. She's much more comfortable surrounding herself with people she's already quite familiar with. But a lot of this lack of outgoing nature tends to stem from the fact that she just doesn't care. She isn't a picky person. Being the kind of person who grew up playing with dolls with a female friend before playing a game outside with the boys, Brooklyn is a very versatile girl. She's kind of cool with just about anything as long as it's not a stupid idea. She doesn't get irritated all too easily, and if she really doesn't want to do something, she'll have no problem saying 'no'. This reserved nature has seemingly been amplified ever since gaining notice of Darren's leave. There has been a noticeable shift in her personality, where she's even quieter than before. It's not dramatic to the point where it's a concern, but with so much on her mind and having no way to let it out (or not being willing to, either one), she's been spending more time just kind of going through the motions of her daily life as opposed to enjoying them like she used to.
-- APPEASER: Brooklyn is a genuinely sweet person. Sure, sometimes her jokes are in bad taste, but she truly has no qualms with the bulk of society. Because she doesn't allow her emotions to rule her life (for the most part), she's less wrapped up in herself, meaning she has more of an opportunity to focus on other people. She likes to help others. She enjoys volunteering. However this quality spills into her personal life a great deal. She wants to make sure everyone else is happy without much thinking about the consequences it has on herself. Honestly, it's a good distraction to keep her from dwelling on her own problems, which she really hates to do. However, sometimes she takes it to an extreme, and it can end up being a big problem for her. Even when she recognizes that there's something she shouldn't do, she doesn't want to be a disappointment. She has a strong desire to be liked and approved of, which makes it tough when faced with a challenging situation. She has a rough time saying 'no' when someone whips out the puppy dog eyes, unless she's being put in actual, physical danger. She merely wants to make people happy.
-- LOVES: cracking jokes, her family, the people in her life, tina fey, amy poehler, saturday night live, sitcoms, television, fireplaces, books, numbers, curling up and reading, working, late nights, sunsets, physical contact, laughter, smiles, italian food, baked goods, baking, rain, dancing in her room, the marines (more of an obligation, really), her boyfriend, her boyfriend's family, support, popcorn, old movies, karaoke, baseball, really large towns, really small towns, opposites, kids, extremes, scarves, winter, cute sweaters, harry potter, video games, ryan seacrest, conan o'brien, jimmy fallon, craig ferguson, batman, twitter.
-- HATES: having nothing to do, really hot days, crying, emotions, the fact that darren isn't coming home, the feeling of being unwanted, seafood, snakes, being in trouble, jay leno, bad humor, racist jokes, when people can read her, when her bangs get too long, having to wear pants, spiderman, black coffee, bad movies, trying to work the copier in the office, when people won't go make her food when she's feeling really lazy, when people are persistent about trying to get her to open up, the guy in her office who's always trying to banter with her but can't keep up, excessive amounts of alcohol, the fact that she likes twitter.
-- HISTORY ! Brooklyn always felt like she had to be the 'funny girl'.
It wasn't because she was overweight, or weird, or commonly made fun of. It was that she was afraid of the possibility of getting teased. She was born into a family where being loud was a necessity. Being weak would leave you with the shitty piece of chicken during a big family dinner. Her parents were French but bred like Italians; she came from a large family, the youngest of six kids, with only one other sister and four very competitive brothers. She learned to adapt to a very testosterone-filled environment very quickly. As much as she enjoyed playing with dolls with the other neighborhood girls, whenever there was a huge game of baseball going on out in the cul-de-sac in which she lived, she was always out there ready to play.
However, being the youngest, Brook didn't often get what she wanted. Oldest always got first choice, main priority. Sure, she was the baby in the family, but there was no use fighting over the television remote because she never won. Because of this, she was, more or less, raised to just settle for being a pushover. Her spot in the home of the Anderson family was to crack jokes, be witty. Not to get what she wanted. And she was okay with that. No use crying over spilled milk.
The family wasn't necessarily the most well off when it came to financials, but they did alright. Times were tough. One by one, the Anderson children trickled out of the household until Brook and the youngest brother were left in the house. Their parents' relationship had been strained for years, but with the lack of children to distract them, the fighting grew more intense. When Brooklyn was sixteen, her parents divorced. It was a lot for her to handle, what with all the tension in the house, so she began to bury herself in her schoolwork.
She attended college in Boston, studying accounting. Brook worked hard to succeed, and when she was a Senior, she scored an internship at the Dawes Corporation. She got an apartment in Capeside, taking online courses to complete her requirements for graduation. Once she had her diploma (as well as took the grueling test to become a certified accountant), she was offered a full time position. By this time, she had met Darren, so the idea of being closer to him sounded rather appealing.
Unfortunately, what with him being in the Marines, it seemed like it didn't matter where she lived. He wasn't around often.
Still, Brook loved him, and there had been talk of marriage. But ever since they received the news that Darren wouldn't be home for another full year, the idea of spending an eternity with him is more out of reach than ever. She began to spend more time with his step-brother which, as she was beginning to realize, might not have been the best choice on her part.
