-- LILIAN ROSE MCGRAY !
-- NAME: lilian rose mcgray -- NICKNAMES: lily, lil -- AGE & BIRTHDAY: eighteen, april twentieth -- BIRTH PLACE: los angeles, california -- ORIENTATION: pansexual -- SCHOOL GRADE: high school senior -- PLAYED BY: lea michele
-- PERSONALITY !
-- TALKATIVE: Lilian can talk anyone's ear off if they give her the opportunity. This seems to get on some people's nerves, but hell if that's going to stop her. She normally has something to say on whatever subject is up, and she isn't afraid to say it. She's not at all indecisive. She has her opinions and she will voice them whenever she deems necessary. She's willing to go to great lengths to support all of her points and she isn't afraid to make enemies in the process. She is, however, accepting of what others believe in- just because she'll debate with them on it, that doesn't mean she's trying to change their mind. She just wants people to see her side just as much as they see her own. Sometimes, unfortunately, she doesn't know when to shut up. At times she's able to figure out when she needs to, but there are just those times when she's on a roll and she just keeps going. She's a loud person, and proud of it. She has the tendency to think that what she has to say is important, and people should listen to her.
-- DETERMINED: She knows what she wants and she's determined to get it. Lily will go to great lengths to ensure this, too- sometimes she'll go too far without even realizing it. She's had the same dreams since she was little and she's confident that nothing can get in the way of her achieving that- she's just taking extra precautions to make sure nothing actually does. Her competitive nature spills into other areas in her life, however, as well. Whatever she does, she wants to win. A lot of that stems from her relationship with her sibling. Lilian hates the idea of being left in the dust so she tries to avoid it as much as possible. Plus, she knows that the career she wants to get into will take a lot of work and so she refuses to start letting anybody walk all over her, since she seems to think that she'll never succeed if she backs down. It is, perhaps, a misguided opinion, but she isn't about to take any chances.
-- CHANGED: At one point, she had been a lot more harsh and a lot more determined. Moving to Capeside mellowed her out a lot, which may be hard for some to believe. She's become a much better person throughout her teenage years and now, in situations where she may have put someone in a hurtful situation to bring herself closer to the top, she steps back. She is no longer mean spirited. There are times when her old self shines through, in rather drastic situations, but for the most part she is able to hold back when she has to. She doesn't immediately talk the ear off of everyone she meets at first, either- she waits until they've warmed up to her, for the most part. Ever since she was told that she comes off strong, she tries her hardest to wait until someone's used to her before actually going off. Lily still has a lot to work on, but... She's made a lot of progress, which she's proud of herself for. Much less bitchy.
-- DRAMATIC: Lilian's dramatic nature can, as most of her other traits, come off as a little, well, strong. She has the tendency to overreact. Hindsight is clearer than foresight so it usually takes her a few days to calm down before she reflects and realizes how she probably should have reacted. Granted, she always tries to go back and fix it if she makes a mistake, but it tends to be later and after quite a roller coaster ride of emotions. She cries very easily- that goes for happy tears, too. She likes to hum songs in her head that go along with a certain thing she's going through in her life. She thinks this trait will make her a good actress because she's great at being theatrical, even if it's often times very misplaced. She's quite aware that she does it, but her head clouds up when something happens so she doesn't exactly realize how much she's overreacting until it's finished. Sometimes, she acts as though even the slightest of things is the end of the world. When angry, however, she does tend to get surges of confidence that she wouldn't otherwise get, so while this is usually a flaw, being dramatic is her boost to standing up for herself at times, which is good.
-- GOOD-NATURED: While as a kid this wouldn't have been used to describe her at all, after making some changes to her life, she would never purposefully put someone in harm's way. She may be determined to win but she doesn't want to hurt anyone in the process. If someone needs help, she'll do her best to help them. She is, at times, wrapped up too much in her own affairs to see if someone's upset, but if they ask, she'll do her best to deliver. She is, to an extent, naive. She may be a bit paranoid (again, stemming from her dramatic nature) when it comes to her competition, but as far as the human race goes in general, she has the tendency to trust a bit too easily. If she's given an opportunity, she'll quickly jump at the chance, even when it's sketchy and could very much hurt her rather than help her. She has a good heart, it's just often times very misplaced.
-- LOVES: coffee, singing, being in the spotlight, acting, los angeles, new york, warm weather, dancing, going out, staying busy, being around people, being happy, salads, chocolate, friends, her family, old movies in foreign languages, foreign languages, reading, winning.
-- HATES: losing, when people find her/tell her that she's annoying, winter, not having anything to do, horses, the fact that she has very little self-control, losing, not getting an audition, excessive competition, being stressed out.
-- HISTORY !
It's true- everyone in Los Angeles has the intention of breaking into the film industry.
Lilian McGray was no exception.
She lived with her mother, a single woman who settled down and began to run her own inn after many years of being a failed actress, and her sister, who was one year older than her. Both of those factors made her desperately want to succeed. The older Lily got, the more she realized she didn't want to 'settle' as her mother had, which made her even more determined to get somewhere in life. However she wasn't just satisfied with that, itching to become better than her sister, and she set her sights a little bit higher. There was no doubt about it. As a kid, she was quite gifted- she had a lovely voice and great acting abilities. Unfortunately, she was just one talented kid in a sea of others who wanted the exact same thing she did, and had parents who were willing to push them to it as well. She wouldn't stand for it, and began to enroll in everything she possibly could. Singing lessons. Acting classes. Dance lessons. The older she got, the better she became, but with this striving came an attitude that made her really unpleasant to be around. She couldn't bring herself to care, though. She was cocky, yes, but she was going places. And that's what mattered.
When she was twelve, her mother's inn was bought by a bigger chain and she was offered a job further up the corporate ladder. That meant more money for the family, a much more steady position in the economy, and a move- to Capeside. Lily threw fits. She wasn't having it; this wasn't a move that could help her in the least. But ultimately, she had no say in the matter, and soon they were off to the opposite side of the country. Capeside was like a culture shock to her. People there were much friendlier than back in Los Angeles. There wasn't nearly as much of a need to fight with people. But old habits die hard and she kept up her attitude for a couple of years, trying to take the school by storm.
No one was having, well... Any of it.
The summer before her Sophomore year, Lilian made quite the drastic attitude adjustment. She toned it down a lot, finally realizing that she wasn't getting herself anywhere in this town the way she was going. It took her peers a little bit to accept her, but she finally found a groove, as well as a few good friends- enough to get her through, at the very least.
Now, her sister's going to college in New York City and Lily's main focus is following in her footsteps- only doing it better. Her mother is currently engaged to a man Lily is quite fond of, and life is calm. She's happy.
