-- BENJAMIN ISAAC MARSHALL !
-- NAME: Benjamin Isaac Marshall -- NICKNAMES: Ben, Marshall, B2 -- AGE & BIRTHDAY: 25, Feb 2nd -- BIRTH PLACE: River Oaks, Houston, Texas -- ORIENTATION: Closeted straight, meaning the world thinks he is gay, but he is not... okay, so more like his parents think he is gay -- OCCUPATION & SCHOOL GRADE: Author of two novels and Copy-Editor at Hey! Massachusetts -- PLAYED BY: Jared Padalecki
-- PERSONALITY !
-- EMOTIONAL: Ben has feelings. He knows it’s taboo for men-folk to be emotional but honestly, he was raised by two gay men and a very emotional mother. So really, what else can you expect? He’d been taught from an early age that there was nothing wrong with having feelings and expressing them. He’s actually a fairly sensitive boy- as far as boys go. He’s known for sulking actually. When things upset him, he gets rather moody, and makes it very obvious that he’s upset. It’s not all bad though, it’s actually good that he can express himself. It also makes it easier to write when you are in touch with your emotions the way he is.
-- DILIGENT: Benjamin is a hard-working, careful young man. He does things thoroughly and likes organization and planning. If he’s given a task, you can be guaranteed he’ll do it completely. Maybe even obsess about the smallest details because he demands perfection from himself. Still though, he will get it done. He’s a hard-working young man who just gets in and plods along. While he has his moments- everyone does, he doesn’t procrastinate much. In fact it bugs him to no end when people just waste time. If there is something to do, just get in and do it. You can do all the things you like doing to your heart’s content once your work is done.
-- EARNEST: Ben is a sincere boy. He doesn’t say things just because. If he says it, he means it. He gets rather passionate, maybe even a little intense about the things he cares about, or that mean something to him. He takes things rather seriously, even when they don’t need to be taken quite so serious. It’s endearing though, how much he cares about things and takes up the course. He can get a little full on though, especially when you consider how diligent he is. Sometimes he just needs to take a breather and calm down. Not everything needs to be taken so seriously and intensely. He’s generally receptive to being told to calm the hell down though, so that’s good right?
-- LOVES: Books, Literature, Plays, Ranch Dressing, Planning, Lists, Writing, Telling stories, Second-Hand book shops, Jeans, BBQ Potato Chips, Corn Chips, Mexican, Tex-Mex, Mystery novels -- HATES: Not knowing, Surprises, ‘Winging it’, Onions, Disorder, Things out of place, Whores, Generic Brands, One word texts, Cold days, Green foods, People who talk shit about things they have no knowledge of, Fake tans
-- HISTORY !
Benjamin had a rather- well different up-bringing. His parents are not what anyone else would call conventional. Henry Marshall and Kurt Levi had been together for close to nine years before they made the choice to have a child. Of course, being a homosexual couple it was rather more complicated than most. They clearly couldn’t conceive normally, and Texas wasn’t exactly all that friendly to the queer community, so adoption would probably be difficult for the couple. So it was about left to the option of finding a surrogate mother. Henry was lucky enough to have an older sister actually, who’d already had two children to her husband and agreed to have Kurt’s child. It meant that both fathers could be related by blood, and the child’s mother could still play a huge part as auntie.
As a child, Ben just accepted that he had two fathers and no mother. It was his way of life; all he’d ever known. So why should it bother him? Once he started school it bothered him a little when the other students found his home-life strange. But mostly he’d just shrug and say ‘oh well’. He liked his home life, so why should it bother him? In his later primary school years, when they thought he was ready, Kurt and Henry sat their son down and explained who his birth mother was. This news was confusing for Benjamin, and for a little while he wasn’t really sure how to treat his auntie. After some careful adjusting though, he settled back into life.
As he grew older and hormones started coming into play, things started getting confusing. He’d been around the gay community all his life, so it was hard not to feel compelled to that world. Just in the same way you would be compelled to heterosexual world. It was just the norm for Benjamin- his way of life. The thing was though, the older he got, the less he felt he was gay. He was actually rather certain he was straight. It was just that his fathers seemed so happy about his sexuality. He couldn’t bring himself to disappoint them with the truth.
It never seemed like the right time to tell them, so off Ben went to college, his dads still thinking he was into boys. The boy attended a school in Philadelphia and studied writing. It was while he was at school that he wrote his first book. It was a young adult book about a mysterious disappearance. The book had a rather large success, and this spurred Ben on to write a sequel after he finished college. For about a year he stayed in Philly, but he grew tired of big city life, and so found himself applying for jobs at small-town papers so he could support himself while he worked on his next novel. He took a job at the Capeside News paper and worked there for a few years, before getting the magazine job.
