-- AMELIA HEAVEN HONEYCUTT !
-- NAME: Amelia Heaven Honeycutt -- NICKNAMES: Am, Mia, Lia, Amy, Milly (most common) -- AGE & BIRTHDAY: 12 June 26th 1999 -- BIRTH PLACE: Capeside Massachussetts -- ORIENTATION: Straight -- OCCUPATION & SCHOOL GRADE: Student, 6th grade -- PLAYED BY: Bella Thorne
-- PERSONALITY !
-- TALKATIVE: Milly is that girl who will talk a person’s ear off if given the chance. She spends so much time stuck in bed that she loves to chat with people. She likes to tell stories and hear stories of people that are around her. She loves a good conversation and hates to be alone because she finds it boring. She is not one who is shy at all and is more than willing to start up a conversation with any random person who gets close to her at all. She doesn’t always realize that this isn’t the best idea to talk to random strangers but she really doesn’t care either. She spends allot of time bored out of her mind so she makes friends everywhere she goes and she knows about all of her doctors and nurses families. She also knows most of the people on the pediatrics and oncology wards. She knows everything that people will tell her and she has no secrets from anyone around her. —SOFT HEARTED: Milly is a soft hearted little thing meaning anyone who has it worse off than she is. She is going to do everything she can to make them feel better. Milly will make an effort to make her family feel better about what is going on even though she’s the one in the hospital bed. She is the kid who worries about how her family is doing even when she is sick to her stomach from chemo and too tired to do much of anything. She has this need to make everyone feel better even when she is sick and tends to take care of the younger chemo patients on her ward because they are sicker than she is. -- SYSTEMATIC: Milly has an order to her room granted no one but Milly knows said order to her room. She has stuff everywhere from get well cards from friends and classmates to stuffed animals to flowers. She can tell you right where her homework is in a pile of cards and other things along with where her favorite slippers and hat are. She may have a mess on her tables and floor and everywhere else in her room but she will always know. Milly is a very organized girl even if she doesn’t look like it.
-- EXCITABLE: Milly is an easy girl to get excited about little things whether it’s just the fact that she gets to go home. Or she is just getting something new to do. She has a way of making the most ordinary things seem exciting. Because her short life has been spent in and out of hospitals so anything that lets her feel normal is exciting for her. She loves it when she can go out and do the things her friends who are healthy do. So if she gets to go to a movie or a school dance she gets really bouncy and hyper. Even just getting to go home with her will get her bouncy and hyper but usually the energy wears off pretty quickly and she’s never actually made it through a full movie or dance though.
-- CREATIVE: Milly spends allot of time off of her feet because she is too sick or too tired to go anywhere. So she has come up with some creative ways of keeping herself entertained by drawing and making games that can be played sitting down. She has come up with a modified version of duck duck goose for the kids on the oncology ward to play because they are all too sick and tired to be running around like normal kids. She has also figured out how to replace pieces for games that have lost pieces on the wards by making them out of clay and play doh and other things that work for game pieces.
-- LOVES: art, music, sleeping, normal kid stuff, when she has hair, her family, friends, getting to go to school, being at home, being healthy, not throwing up, having energy, getting another birthday cake, talking, reading, eating what she wants, good jokes, cuddling, stuffed animals, her own bedroom -- HATES: chemo, doctors, being in the hospital, having no immune system, getting sick, not being able to go do what other kids are doing, being treated like she’s contagious, being lethargic, being nauseous, losing all of her hair, being weak, not being able to hold anything down, blood tests, being talked to like she doesn’t know what’s happening, her IV port, being the weird kid at school.
-- HISTORY !
Amelia Heaven Honeycutt was born on June 26th 1999 to Benjamin and Heidi Honeycutt. She was the youngest child having two older brothers, Elliot who was twelve, Samson who was eight, and an older sister Ruby who was five. Unlike her siblings though Amelia was never a smiley baby in fact from the moment she was born she was crying. Amelia would just continue to cry day in and day out making the parents nervous. But the specialists just kept telling them she was a colicky baby she would grow out of it. By the time she was six months old the symptoms that the family had been seen escalated to a point where they couldn’t be ignored by anyone anymore. Amelia had suffered through sixty seven infections from the time she was born to six months. She was covered in angry bruises that wouldn’t seem to heal and little spots call petchiae and she was constantly running a fever. And when Amelia wasn’t crying she was so lethargic it was hard to rouse the young infant from sleep. But the most alarming symptom was just the fact that the tiny infant was struggling to breathe.
Amelia was seen by a pediatric specialist who finally put all of the pieces together and immediately made the family get an oncologist to confirm the diagnosis. Benjamin and Heidi were not ready for the challenge that Amelia’s diagnosis would pose to them. Amelia was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and immediately checked into the hospital’s pediatric oncology ward. The doctors fought with Amelia’s leukemia until the only choice became a bone marrow transplant when she was three years old. Amelia was very fortunate that her older sister Ruby was a match and willing to donate bone marrow to her. This has made Amelia closer to her sister than ever.
Amelia was in remission after that, but still taking anti rejection drugs and various other medications to deal with her poor immune system. The family got two very good short lived years of a healthy Amelia when the symptoms started up again with never ending nose bleeds, bruising easily, and her being lethargic and feverish. Benjamin and Heidi took the young girl back to the hospital where they started her on chemo again, causing the five year old to lose all of her hair. Amelia was rather upset by this but started to find creative ways to cover it up rather than a wig. Amelia would spend the next four years in the hospital fighting with her leukemia and frequent infections because her immune system couldn’t handle anything. This isolated the young girl from making too many friends outside of her siblings when she was healthy enough for them to visit and the other kids on the oncology ward with her.
When she finally got to go home again when she was nine, the doctors suggested that Amelia take a home study option for school because of her weak immune system. Amelia was healthy enough to start attending a camp for people with leukemia though and started to make some real friends there. Amelia would lose her first friend to their battle with cancer when she turned ten. By the time she turned eleven she had already lost six friends and been to four funerals. Now at age twelve Amelia is starting to show symptoms again but is still trying to hide it at the moment because she is tired of being in the hospital and being a burden on her family.
-- SAMPLE !
Amelia or Milly as she was often affectionately called by her family, doctors and nurses was not feeling well at all. She was tired and all she wanted to do was curl up and sleep which wasn’t a good sign for her because the fact she was tired paired with her random bruises. Well she knew what was going on and she didn’t want to put her family through that ordeal again. It made her tired to think about it but at the same time she wanted the things her family was getting. She wanted to go out on that first date with a boy, have her first kiss, drive a car, and graduate high school. But these were goals that were not likely for her and actually more part of her bucket list than anything. Amelia was the kid who knew doctors better than other kids, saw hospitals more than she ever saw of school, been to funerals while other kids were going to dances.
Milly had seen death her leukemia camp lost kids between sessions every year and she missed all of her friends, every year another kid’s name went onto the memorial wall. The list of kids who had lost their battle with this illness that the treatment sometimes made them feel worse than the illness. Amelia was forcing herself to be awake and look in the mirror it had taken three years to grow her hair to the length it was at now, if she was sick again she was going to be faced with the fact that that was all going to fall out again. It was one of her least favorite side effects of the chemotherapy.
Amelia didn’t like the fact that she had to be bald from the chemo because she liked having hair. The maintenance treatments for her leukemia weren’t nearly as toxic as the induction treatments. She knew that with as achy as she was and as tired as she was she should tell her parents. She needed to tell someone even if it was just her sister but she didn’t want to be a burden. Her illness had done enough to their family and it wasn’t something she wanted to put all of them through again.
If Milly was honest with herself she probably was more ready to just let things take a natural course. She wasn’t sure how much longer she really had anyway. The treatments were just as toxic as the disease itself she didn’t want to put her sister through another bone marrow transplant. She didn’t want to put her parents through the fear of waiting by her bedside for long days and nights while her siblings were alone. She wanted Elliot, Samson, and Ruby to get the attention they deserved. They deserved parents who would be at their parent teacher conferences rather than by her bedside. She wanted to let go of this life and move on out of her broken down useless body.
