-- MARLEY LAINE DIXON !
-- NAME: Marley Laine Dixon -- NICKNAMES: None really. -- AGE & BIRTHDAY: Twenty Three, July 2nd. -- BIRTH PLACE: Capeside, Massachusetts. -- ORIENTATION: Heterosexual -- OCCUPATION & SCHOOL GRADE: Bartender. -- PLAYED BY: Zoe Kravitz
-- PERSONALITY !
-- INDEPENDENT: It isn’t just that Marley has a different way of doing things or thinking than other people that makes her independent. Even though that’s always been a factor and part of the reason why she doesn’t feel the need to lean on people all the time. She’s also self-supporting. Being the child of a single parent made her grow up a lot faster than her peers. Hell, she had a job all throughout high school while her peers were off spending their parents money. It was just logical for Marley to take charge of her life. She’s responsible for her actions and needs no help keeping herself on her feet.
-- FUN: Despite knowing how to take care of herself, Marley also knows how to have fun. Be it by herself or with a group of friends she can make any casual situation a fun one. She likes doing things not everyone is interested in. Trying new things and being a part of things the upper crusty part of Capeside wants nothing to do with is what Marley wants to do, and where she wants to be. She joined a roller derby team, likes taking shots, playing paintball, telling jokes. Marley is the definition of fun.
-- GROUNDED: Very in touch with reality, Marley knows that she will get nothing if she doesn’t work for it. She also knows that marrying some rich guy with a snotty attitude isn’t in the cards for her. Truth be told, she doesn’t exactly want that kind of life anyway. She knows she’s the bottom rung, the girl people were friends with for her personality instead of her status and that doesn’t really bother her. What bothers her is when the people who think they are better than her invade her space and try to claim her turf. She doesn’t have extravagant dreams about what her future will be like because she knows what she has now will most likely be what she always has.
-- LOVES: sugar, loud music, roller derby, telling fibs, television, indie movies, gum, her job, bright colors, dogs. -- HATES: cats, obnoxious people, light beer, infomercials, romance novels, mushrooms, hot days, broken crayons, chalk, dry hands.
-- HISTORY !
Marley Dixon was the product of a short fling Janelle Dixon and a man named Roger had twenty some odd years ago. To be honest, Marley didn’t really care to know too much about her father. Her mother was always willing to tell her but Marley never really asked. She chalked it up to just not caring. If that man couldn’t be there when she was a baby why would she want to seek him out now? Of course, Marley didn’t really harbor any hate for him either. She didn’t know him so why put the time and effort in to loathe him? In fact, it was better that she never bothered with him because the relationship she had with her mother was what taught her that women could be alone and be strong. Even as a little kid, Marley was sure that her mother was some kind of superhero. That thinking never changed.
Janelle had always lived in Capeside and had even been some kind of production assistant when that soap opera was filming there. But after that tanked Marley couldn’t keep up with her mother’s numerous and varied jobs. She almost always came home from school to an empty house and it would that way for hours before her mother finally showed up. It wasn’t bad though. Marley learned to fend for herself. She went to school with all kinds of kids who were well off but it didn’t bug her that they had more than her until they started shoving it in her face. Of course, until Marley punched a boy square in the face in the seventh grade and then it happened very rarely.
By the time she hit high school, Marley had a decent group of friends both with and without money. They spent most of their time filling the void between Capeside affairs by throwing their own parties or hanging out at the bookstore, and then the coffee shop, where Marley worked after school most days. It was nice. After she graduated Marley moved out of her mom’s place, got an apartment and started bartending. That’s pretty much what she’s been doing since, keeping on the downside of Capeside and living her life.
