[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,355,true]Nora had forgotten how salty the air in New England was. Yes, she’d grown up there and spent most of her life in Capeside, but she had been living in Florida for four years. And Gainesville was inland; a few hours drive from the beach. No saltwater smell to wake up to every day. Then again, maybe it was the fact that her apartment was practically sitting on the water that contributed to the salt smell. She was currently sitting at the small table she’d put near the big picture window in the living room. The view was overlooking the marina and oh, what a view it was. A cup of hot, steaming tea was clasped in her hands, one of her creature comforts. Nora lifted the mug up and inhaled the spicy-sweet scent before taking a sip. She grimaced as the liquid burned her tongue. But, mmmmm, it tasted good.
UPS had delivered the rest of her things from Gainesville that morning, and Nora had been unpacking and shuffling her belongings around ever since. The kitchen had been set up first; sorting out her pots, pans, dish-ware, and utensils and trying to maximize what storage space she had. The bedroom had been easy: make the bed, store extra blankets and towels in the linen closet, and shove her clothes into drawers. After that she’d started in on the living room, but after stumbling over boxes and piles of stuff and her own two feet one too many times, Nora had decided to take a break and relax for a bit.
Nora still felt uneasy about coming back to Massachusetts. It was wonderful to be with her mom and Aly full time again, but she missed the life she’d had in Florida. She’d had to figure things out for herself and it had been extremely hard at first. Once things had settled though, it had been amazing. Nora thought of Isaac, but before her mind could go down that road, music suddenly started blasted from her phone which was sitting on the semi-buried coffee table. Setting down the mug, Nora walked over and picked up the little device. It was the alarm she’d set to remind her to get ready to go over to Aly and Finn’s apartment.
Nora called the pizza order in as she got ready. She made it to her bedroom after tripping one more time and falling flat on her ass. Peachy. The brunette changed out of her sweats into a pair of grey jeans, and a black tee. She went back to the kitchen to grab some cleaning supplies from under her sink. She was thinking that tonight would mostly involve organizing and putting things away, but you never knew with Aly...
Laughing to herself, Nora grabbed her black jacket and a scarf on her way out the door. Within twenty minutes she had swung by and picked up the pizzas, vegetarian for Aly and white Hawaiian for herself and was walking up to the door of her sister’s apartment. Juggling things so she had a free hand, Nora banged on the door with her open palm. ”Aly! Open the door! Favorite sister, also known as current personal slave, has arrived with food!” |

Work had been dull. Besides some inappropriate insinuations she had emailed to Finn, and pretending she didn’t know Max in the lift, she had spent most of the day googling weddings for ideas of her own. She often wondered why the company insisted she spent three afternoons in the office a week. Sure, when she had clients to see, it made sense, and she spent a few hours a week making phone calls to source furniture and fabrics or what not, however most of her job was about being out on the field. Over-seeing the carpet instillation to make sure it’s the right colour and plushness. Or perusing furniture stores and antique shops for that one perfect piece she needed to finish off a room. Then, that was Aly. She was never the sort of girl who could be content sitting in an office all day for the rest of her life. She’d get restless. Alyson got restless easily if she didn’t have variety. That wasn’t the only reason she was an interior designer though. She’d always had a flair for colour, and texture. And from a young age she’d always seemed to have a thing for matching furniture themes together. Besides, it was a career path both she and her father could be happy with.
It was amazing that even after a day of doing virtually nothing, that Alyson could be so utterly exhausted after work. Considering she had spent the last half an hour sitting on Finn’s desk whining about the fact he had a dinner meeting with a potential client they were trying to woo. Heaton Inc wanted the contract to design the new facilities of the Gold Club and resort, and it was up to everyone to schmooze the board members in order to gain the contract. Alyson was sure that she’d be roped into it at some point. Not only for her interior design skills, but she was sure her charming personality would be utilized, as it always was, when they were trying to impress a client. It was the way of the business world, really. It wasn’t about how could you could be at the job, it was about how much you impressed the client with glamorous dinners and charming personalities. Finn’s uncle had known Alyson all her life, and was very aware of how much a delight she could be at functions. In fact, she was sure the man was glad he could introduce her as his nephew’s fiancé, to make the impression she had stick even more.
After sulking enough to get Finn to walk her to the car, and a rather long kiss goodbye, Alyson had headed home. It wasn’t a long drive, which was good, considering Aly was in a rush to get home. Her stockings were itching her, and she was anxious to get them off. Parking her car in the underground lot of the apartment complex, She left the half-drunk Starbucks mug that she had gotten on her way home where it was in the cup holder. That was tomorrow’s (or never) problem. Besides, if she had a dollar for every empty coffee cup in her car, she would have enough money to pay someone to clean her house. But then, she didn’t need to with a sister like Nora, did she? Alyson grinned as she stepped into the lift and pressed the button for her floor. She loved the fact that Nora would do just about everything for her. Then, they’d always been that way. Alyson had always been able to get her sister to do almost anything she wanted.
Letting herself inside, Alyson slipped her heals off. Leaving them in the doorway. She closed the door behind her, and dumped her handbag and keys on the small table in the hall. That was the way she was. She just left things wherever she felt like it. Which was why she was in some major need of an organized mind. Shimmying out of her stockings as she walked- a skill that had taken her a lot of practice to perfect. Stepping out of them, she left them in the hall on her way to the kitchen. She knew Nora was supplying dinner, but she needed a snack. However, she hadn’t even opened the fridge when she heard the knock on the door. Grinning, she bounded back down the hall, pulling the door open. “Oh you beautiful thing, you.” She gave her sister a one armed hug, kicking her heals aside before taking the pizza from her sister. “Come in, Come in.”
