It was a slow night at work. For some reason, Mondays were always slow. Teddy wondered why that was. Did people just not hire DVD’s on a Monday night? Was it not the done thing and he hadn’t got the memo about it? Teddy never seemed to get the memos about what was cool and what wasn’t. He had no idea why though, because (at least in his own mind) he was very cool. Maybe he was so cool that he didn’t need to follow the cool rules? Ha ha. That was one thing he really was aware of. His lack of cool. But you know what? He couldn’t bring himself to really care all that much. He liked who he was, and be dammed anyone that thought he should change. It was a strange thing, for a teenager to be so comfortable with being un-cool. But then, Teddy was a strange boy, so it fit well. He was, rather honestly, the odd kid. He always had been. Referencing occult TV shows or comics you’ve never heard of. Wearing fluorescent green chucks, just because they are there. Watching Harry Potter on a Saturday night because that seemed epically cooler than going to some party and getting drunk. It really didn’t matter to him what others thought.
Letting out a sigh, the young man leant against the counter. What did matter, though, was the fact he was bored. Epically and irrevocably bored. A thesaurus of bored. It wouldn’t have been so bad had there been another staff member on with him, he’d have been able to chat and enjoy the company. Alas though, he was alone. Considering how ghost town it was though, it probably made more sense only to have one staff member on. This really didn’t help Teddy. He still had an hour of his shift left, and unless he found something to do he was going to go nutty. The youth had already gone through the store, re-alphabetizing the shelves, then ranked the new releases in order of his personal preference. Of course he’d seen them all- it was his ritual to hire a new release the day it came to the store so he could ‘give customers an honest opinion’. Of course it had nothing at all to do with the fact that he was just a huge movie nerd and wanted to see them. Unless it was something really awesome, Teddy liked to wait until they came out on DVD. For some reason he just preferred the comfort of his house and a large collection of snack foods.
It was too quiet, that was the problem. Pushing himself away from the counter, Teddy grinned. What he needed was some music. Now, it was usually policy that they play the adverts reel, or a movie on all the screens in the store, but eh, bugger that. Crouching down, the young man fished his Ipod from his back. Which was in the shelving under the counter for safe keeping. Straightening up, he moved over to the stereo, He wasn’t the only one who liked to connect their mp3 player to the sound system when there wasn’t a manger in the store. In fact, he was surprised they hadn’t been caught, considering the connection cord was always just sitting there. Plugging the device in, the boy scrolled through his playlists until he came to one entitled ‘disney songs that will put hair on your chest’. Grinning to himself, the young man selected it. Now that was more like it. Setting the device down, he did a slight spin on the spot as the first song started. Belting out the lyrics. “Let’s get down to business, to defeat the huns.” Oh yeah he was cool..

- - - - - - - - - - - - It had just been one of those days. She had basically been surviving on caffeine all day thanks to the very little sleep she got last night, which sucked. Then everyone she served at the café seemed to be a rotten mood, doing nothing but complaining and leaving her with lousy tips. And she sung today, and still they were crappy- she usually did well with tips as well, but not today. Someone even complained to her manager about her. But, luckily for her, the manager agreed that the guy was just in a mood and she had done nothing wrong. Her feet were killing her from running around all day fetching coffee and muffins and the like. And to top it all off; she broke a nail- which bloody hurt! All Lily wanted to do now, was get a DVD or two, and curl into a ball on the sofa with a naughty bottle glass of wine lemonade and a big bowl of popcorn.
This was why she was here, making her way over to the desk, guitar over her shoulder and a small pile of DVDs in her hand. She couldn’t help the corners of her lips pull up into a small smile as she heard the introduction to one of her favourite Disney songs- I’ll make a man out of you.As she made her way to the counter the small smile turning into a little giggle at the sight of the younger man singing along. Clearing her throat to get his attention she placed the DVDs on the counter, “having fun?” She teased playfully drumming her fingers on the top DVD, which happened to be Disney’s Mulan, below that was The Black Cauldron and then on the bottom, The Silence of The Lambs. Yeah, it was an interesting selection- Disney followed by cannibalism, but Lily had this sick little crush on Hannibal Lecter; he was charming, and smart, and it was just like her that the only man she’d fancied for years was, not only fictional, but also criminally insane. Ah well.
“Great minds, huh?” She said nodding to the DVDs. Truth was, she was a huge Disney nut herself. Her collection at home was rather impressive to any other lover, or a little weird to those who aren’t such a fan. But her Mulan DVD had broken, which was why she was renting. Lily tucked a piece of hair behind her ear, frowning at the split ends God, I really need a trim, before adding, “I’m guessing it’s not been a busy night then,” and leaning on the counter to glance around the pretty much empty store, save for well... her. “Wow, am I like, a total loser for having nothing to do on a Monday night but site at home watching Disney movies? Is Monday the new Friday or something?” Okay, she knew she wasn’t exactly cool, she was pretty lame really, hence the Disney and inappropriate attraction on the old, fictional cannibal, but this was absurd. She really needed to make some more friends; she’d been here for nearly a year after all!

D E E P I N M Y S O U L ( that love never lasts )
The whole day had been terribly uneventful. Of course, that was just the way Tessa Phillips liked it. No fights had taken place, no voices had been raised unnecessarily and everyone seemed to be at peace with one another. Of course, it wasn’t had to keep the peace when you really did not have any friends. The day had been spent cooped up in a stuffy bedroom with a guitar and a notebook. Her father had been out the whole day, attempting to earn some money for them. When he had come home he had been incredibly tired and was certainly ready for a relaxing night of take away food and a nice movie. The pair always had dinner together with no exceptions for either of them. Any other teenager would probably be out on a date but not Tess. She simply did not believe in love.
Usually it was Charlie who picked out the movie but he had pestered his daughter, saying he was too tired. That was the reason Tessa was now walking down the street to the video store. It was not a long walk and it was rather calming, watching the cars roll by her. Everyone who walked by her simply acted as though she did not exist, something which she was quite used to. She had that kind of air around her that told people to stay away. Her face was usually holding a rather sad expression, urging people to leave her alone. It was both for their protection and for hers. She simply could not stand to have her heart broken again and she just would not let it happen. It was one of those things that she was strict about. If you don’t let anyone in, they cannot hurt you.
Pushing open the doors she noticed the music that was playing in the store. A smile started to creep onto her face for the first time that day. She had just been playing that exact song in her bedroom before setting out for the DVD store. It was a very well-known Disney song and she had to admit that Mulan was one of her favourite Disney movies. A closet fan, she had never really had anyone to share her love of the classics with and her dad was not one she could talk to about those things. She had always really wanted to talk to someone about the amazing stories told through those movies but, of course, she just did not have a friend like that at all.
Tessa walked past the two people that were at the desk. Giving them a quick glance, she noted that the male, the worker, had been in the year below her at school. She had seen him around quite a few times but had never once actually said hello to him. The girl she did not know but thought she recognised her from somewhere. Pushing aside that thought she went down one of the aisles in the store. Her father wanted some kind of action film, but also something to cheer them up. She could not for the life of her think of a movie that fit that description and so she instead searched hopelessly up and down the aisle.
Words were being exchanged between the other two people and Tessa thought it would be quite rude if she intruded. Still, she needed to get home soon and there was no other way. She was not fond of conversing, for people always expected a friendship and some undying loyalty to come from those few minutes of hurried words. This was one thing Tess simply could not give. She was not a trusting person and she doubted she ever would be. However she had no other choice at that moment and so instead she simply turned on her heels, ran a hand through her brown hair, and walked up to the desk.
“I don’t suppose you have any action movies, which could perhaps lighten the mood of an overworked soul, do you?” There. It had been said. She could not quite remember the last time she had spoken to someone who was not her father. So Tessa took a deep breath and waited for what would come next.

Well now. That was embarrassing. Teddy hadn’t heard anyone enter the store, so when he had turned around mid note to see someone approaching the counter, he felt himself blush a little. However that didn’t stop him from singing. It should have- but it didn’t. It was too late now to pretend he hadn’t been jamming to Disney, he’d already been caught, so that was that. Perhaps it wasn’t the most manliest thing that he could have been doing, but at least it wasn’t one of the heroin’s songs that he was singing. That would have been even worse. Teddy had learnt long ago though, that he shouldn’t make apologies for who he was. Instead, he gave the girl a shy grin, wiggling his eyebrows as he sung the next line at her. Reaching over, he turned the music down a little so they could have a conversation. Or at least so he could do his job correctly. It was hard to be a good customer service assistance when the music was blaring. There was less temptation to sing a long too, if it was just a background song, and not the main thing in his mind.
Grinning at her comment, Teddy nodded. “Of course, It’s always fun to embarrass yourself at work. I try to do it at least ten times a shift, you know, just to keep everyone on their feet.” He gave her a wink, before chuckling to himself. It was always best to make a joke in this sort of situation. Looking down at the top DVD on her pile, the young man let out a hearty laugh. “Yes, great minds indeed.” Picking up the DVDS he started shifting through the small pile. “Oh nice!” He nodded in appreciation at her second choice. “The Black Cauldron, under-rated but still a very fine choice.” Flipping to the last one, he paused for a moment, raising an eyebrow. Holding it up, the front facing the pretty blonde. “Disney and Hannibal?” he questioned, trying not to smirk too much. He was trying to see the connection, but he couldn’t really find one. He was sure she had some sort of logic behind it. Even if there wasn’t, it really amused him. “Which are you going to watch first? The Disney and ease into the hard stuff, or the physiological thriller then the Disney to cheer you up?” His smirk was growing as he waited for her answer.
However, before she could really say much, they were interrupted. Coughing slightly, Teddy put the DVD’S down, shooting the blonde girl a look and a raised eyebrow before shifting his gaze to the brunette. He knew her, for that he was sure. They’d gone to the same school, and both been involved in some of the music programs, but he’d not once heard her talk. “Wow, she talks.” He said softly- light heartedly. He wasn’t trying to upset her, just being playful. It was never his intention to upset anyone with his jokes. Giving her a smile, just to make sure she knew he wasn’t trying to offend her, he shrugged. “Wow, that’s a tall order. Most action movies are pretty heavy going- unless they are bad.” Turning back to the blonde, he wiggled his eyebrows a little. “What do you think?” Leaning forward, he rested his elbows against the counter. “I mean, you’re movie choosing finesse has me in awe.” He winked, smirking a little.

- - - - - - - - - - - - Lily laughed as Teddy continued to sing along to the next line, and glanced down at the counter top nervously, only looking back at the man as she heard the music quieten and nodded at his statement, “of course, I do it at least four times a day,” she joked motioning to the large coffee stain on her shirt as an example, her shoulder rising and falling as if to say ‘ah well, c'est la vie’. Her bottom lip slipping between pearly teeth, almost nervous as to his reaction to her choice of DVD’s, before morphing into a large grin at his appreciation, “yeah, my Grandpa used to have The Black Cauldron on video when I was a kid, I used to watch it all the time when I went over to his house,” she explained, gazing at the DVD case fondly, remembering forcing her Grandpa to act out scenes from the film, naturally she was always Eilonwy. “It was one of my favourites.”
Out of the corner of her eye, Lily noticed a petite brunette walk through the door and offered her a small, timid smile, as one often does with strangers before turning her attention to the man across the counter from her, trying to figure out what he had said, her attention having been broken momentarily ’Disney and Hannibal, right’ “why not?” she asked laughing nervously, a blush creeping to her cheeks, a nervous laugh slipping past her lips as she pushed the guitar higher up her shoulder, more for something to fiddle with than comfort. Lily laughed as she shook her head, “oh, I will need no cheering up after two hours of Hannibal Lecter,” she promised, her tone lightly teasing before shrugging once more, “but I don’t know about the order, maybe... Silence in between, to break up the Disney.”
Blue eyes, glanced back at the same brunette she’d seen walk in a few moments ago, and offered a smile not dissimilar to the previous, her stare jumping from her to the boy following the exchange, his statement causing her to assume they knew each other, maybe from school. They both looked around her age, before laughing at the description of her choice of films, “wow, talk about pressure,” she joked before thinking, “okay an action film, but light hearted,” shaking her head she suggested, “the only one that comes to mind is Street Fighter,” tucking the same curl from earlier that just didn’t seem to want to behave, “it’s from... erm... early 90s, so it’s not exactly hardcore, based on a terrible game, and stars Kylie Minogue and Jean-Claude Van Damme, what more could you ask for?”

D E E P I N M Y S O U L ( that love never lasts )
The comment that came from the young man immediately made Tessa feel awkward and out of place. She had not meant to interrupt the pair in any way but she soon found that it may have been the case. She recalled seeing the boy from various music rehearsals back when she had been at school but failed to pick up that he was referring to the fact that she had never once spoken during any of those rehearsals. It was not unusual for Tessa to remain silent and she had never really noticed that anyone else had a problem with it. Of course, due to her lack of social skills, she did not quite take the comment as a joke. The smile calmed her just slightly but she remained on edge, unsure of what the pair really thought of her.
Attempting a smile, she tried to seem as friendly as possible. The worst thing was not knowing what they each thought of her. Were they annoyed that she had interrupted her? Did they think she was some kind of freak? It was all those questions that made her simply hate having to converse. You could never be sure of anything or of what the other people were thinking of you. It set her on edge, made her feel uncomfortable and out of her skin. She hated that feeling; she did not feel like herself. It was when the blonde girl started to speak to her that she zapped back into a strange sort of consciousness.
“Never heard of it before,” she murmured, a puzzled look crossing her face. She smiled at the blonde girl but turned back to the boy. “I guess it’ll do. I know my dad likes Kylie Minogue at least.” The words were hard to get out and Tessa did not know if she was even saying the right thing. The whole etiquette of conversation was one that she knew; it was just that she never quite knew what to say at the time. She was the kind of person who had to think about what to say for a while first, before gaining the courage to actually speak up. At the moment, she was doing what she had not done in a while. The talking without thinking was not something she liked. She had seen it tear her family apart and had promised that she would always think first. Yet here she was, the words simply flying out, not thought whatsoever. It was not as bad as she thought.
Looking down at the stack of movies on the counter in front of the blonde she smiled. “Mulan,” she mused softly to herself. “Good music. Although I’ve always liked Alan Menken’s works better.” Tessa paused and looked up at the boy once more, almost to check as if it was alright for her to talk. She had noticed one of the Mulan songs playing as she had walked in. She had always liked Disney and Mulan had certainly been one of her favourites. Of course, Alan Menken was a pure genius and his works, notably Beauty and the Beast, would never be forgotten by her. “I simply love Beauty and the Beast,” she said, not realising that she had said it out loud. She was lost in her thoughts, but of course, that always seemed to happen to her.

While the blonde talked, Teddy started to scan in her movies. Mainly just for something to do. He was in the mood to keep moving today. Sometimes Teddy went through phases of being okay with just sitting around having movie marathons, but other times he needed to keep moving. Even if he was just fiddling with something has he watched. Today was definitely a fiddle day. Which was why he had decided to turn his music up in the first place. It had given him something to do. However, after he had scanned the three movies that was all he could do. He needed her card or at least her membership number before he could continue any sort of transaction. Sighing softly to himself, he started to drum his fingers against the counter. Trying not to be so loud as to disrupt the conversation. Without even realising it, his fingers fell into the same rhythm of the song that was playing. Once musical, always musical, he supposed.
At Lily’s suggestion, a huge grin tugged on his lips and he stood up straighter. “That movie is a classic!” He exclaimed, the excitement clear in his voice. Being the movie buff that he was, it shouldn’t have been a surprise to anyone that knew him at all that he had heard of the movie before. Especially working at the video store, he’d seen pretty much everything. In fact, if someone hired out a movie that he hadn’t seen, he made a note of when it was due back, and made sure to hire it when it came in again. Unless of course it was something like the Dora movie. He already knew how to count to ten, so he could skip that. Or something he knew would be a complete waste of time and money. Although, he had seen the Spice Girls movie. Call it a morbid curiosity.
“I’ll see if it’s in for you.” He gave Tessa (that was her name, wasn’t it? He’d have to check later to make sure) a wink as he cancelled current thing on the screen. It wasn’t a problem. Lily didn’t seem like she was in a rush, and he could do her transaction in a bit. Clicking on the database, he typed in the title of the movie in question. “You’re in luck!” He announced triumphantly, grinning at both of them. “There’s a copy on shelf.” Clearing the screen, he opened the gate in the counter. “I’ll go grab it for you.” He smiled at Tessa, before switching his attention to Lily. “Won’t be a moment.” He offered her a grin, hoping she wasn’t annoyed that he was serving another customer before her. She didn’t seem to mind though. If she had, he’d have politely asked Tessa to wait a moment.
Disappearing into the action, Teddy quickly found the movie he was after. Thanks to his organization, everything was in perfect order. However, as he was there, he started to get a few more ideas for Tessa. Starting to select a few more options, he glanced out of the corner of his eye. Wondering if the brunette would continue her boldness and keep talking. Also, he wanted to catch another look at the blonde. She was pretty- with amazing tastes in movies. He couldn’t help but feel a little smitten.

- - - - - - - - - - - - Lily smiled at his comment of the movie, truth be told she had been a little nervous at suggesting it; after all, it wasn’t great. But, she liked it, and apparently, so did he. It had been a guilty pleasure of hers growing up. She’d always been a fan of less than brilliant movies and TV shows, they just made her giggle all the way through. The best ones were when they were trying to be serious, but failed. And failed miserably. Lily watched quietly as he searched the database, trying to think of something else in case Street Fighter wasn’t available, but she was struggling to match with the criteria- she wasn’t that big on movies, being more of a reader herself.
A small smile fell across her face Teddy told them the film was in stock, “oh that’s good then,” she said nodding as she looked at the other girl, her attention falling back to the guy as he spoke to her, “okay, no problem,” she replied nodding again, before searching her bag for her purse as he left, “yeah, I always loved Alan Menken’s music, he really is amazing,” Lily answered, still searching though the small bag; seriously it was tiny and had so much crap in it, it was amazing she found anything, Suddenly her head snapped up as she looked at Tessa, “Beauty and the Beast is amazing” The smile on her face growing as she remembered sitting on the floor at home and watching it on video then having to rewind it and watching it again backwards as the tape re-wound, “my all-time favourite!” Looking back at her bag she huffed, “where on Earth is the bloody th- oh I’ve been looking for this,” she said pulling out an earring, “I should really pay attention to where I put things,” and with that she dropped the earring back in the bag, “ah ha!” She cried pulling out the black purse, a small yellow cat on the front, “found ya, you bugger.” Smiling nervously at the brunette, “sorry,” a blush creeping across her cheeks, as she tried to explain, “I always end up losing either my purse, my keys or my phone, it’s a serious pain in the arse.” A nervous giggle escaped her lips as her shoulder rose and fell in a shrug, “no matter the size of my bag, it’s always full the brim of rubbish.” As was speaking, her attention was on the purse as she flicked through for the small membership card, which was then placed on the top of the small pile of DVDs “it would be funny, if it wasn’t so annoying.”

The wink she received from Teddy put the girl slightly of edge. She did not quite know what that kind of wink symbolised and so she simply assumed it was something like friendship. However, she had not known Teddy very well, even when she was back at school. Sure they had both been in the same bands and guitar groups but she had never once uttered a word to him. If she had been any better at socializing, Tessa probably would have noticed this to be quite odd and just a little rude. It was not secret that she was a complete introvert and it took a long while to get her to speak, especially around those of the opposite sex.
Offering a small smile to the boy when he told her that the movie was in, she shifted her weight, feeling slightly awkward in the silence. Teddy rushed off to get and then it was just the two girls. She recalled seeing the blonde somewhere but she was not completely sure. She shifted through all her memories, trying to pinpoint where they had crossed paths. It was a difficult task, they could have met anywhere. She discarded the idea of school, but perhaps they had worked together at the café at some point in time. Either way, they had seen each other before but, once again, they had never exchanged words.
Nodding, she let a smile soften her features again. “Oh yes, I’ve seen it at least a hundred times,” she said in her quiet voice. Anyone that knew Tessa would know very well that she is incapable of shouting. In fact, most would simply assume that the only volume she was capable of was a dull whisper. The only person who really ever heard her speak in a more usual volume level was her father. Even he was a quiet person and so that was most likely to have influenced her into the silent shell that she was constantly inside of. “You obviously have very good taste then.” This time Tessa grinned. Somehow she just felt a little more comfortable around this girl, although it was strange. Most of the time, when around strangers, she was just silent. Today, she had spoken more than she ever had in the past month.
The blonde girl started rifling through her bag, obviously looking for something at the tone of her voice. Tessa simply looked onwards, trying to figure out what on earth she could be searching for that was so hidden. She assumed it was something very small or perhaps the bag was just full of a lot of strange items. A small laugh escaped her lips as she watched the girl pull out an earring and make a small remark about it. Putting a hand over her mouth she became slightly taken aback. Laughter was not an everyday thing for her. In fact, usually the only laughter came from her when she was watching a movie or talking with her dad. So this was starting to become a rather strange day for the girl.
“Perhaps you should think about tidying it up a little,” Tessa murmured, smiling again. Then, realising that she still did not know this girl very well, she held out a hand. “I’m Tessa by the way,” she said, the smile widening. Obviously today had been given to her for a reason. Today was the day she was going to make a few new friends. How childish it sounded and yet, it didn’t feel that way to her. Silently she thought she was perhaps becoming an extrovert, if only just a little bit.

Teddy listened to the conversation from where he was, but didn’t say anything about what they were discussing at that moment. He did agree with the girls though, Beauty and the Beast was one of his favourite Disney films of all time. There was just something about it that seemed to set it apart from the others. It always stood out in his mind. Maybe because it was much more theatrical than some of the others, or maybe because it was the one that most people around his age remembered as their first, because it came out when they were little. Whatever the reason, it was a stand-out in most people’s minds. Then again, it had won Oscars, so the film industry had deemed it worthy for various reasons. Man, he over thought things. Shaking his head a little, the young man smirked to himself as he grabbed the last film he was looking for.
Returning to the counter, he let himself back behind it, offering both the girl’s a smile. “You know, sad fact. Howard Ashman who wrote the lyrics actually died before the movie made it to cinemas. What a wonderful swan song though, working on an amazing thing like Beauty and the Beast?” He knew the conversation had changed to something about cleaning out purses, but Teddy didn’t exactly have any expert knowledge on that fact. He knew random movie trivia, that was his thing. Well, one of his things. Anyway, he was sure that the hand bag conversation wasn’t so riveting that they would be annoyed by his back-track. And if there were, well he’d have to deal with that. Though he was sure a simple sheepish grin and an apology would surface. He hadn’t interrupted a peace treaty, or a discussion of Nietzsche’s philosophies. Then again, girls could be strangely upset about things that he wouldn’t be fussed about.
Teddy would never understand girls, he swore. Sure, he had a long term girlfriend, but that didn’t mean he was an expert. He did try though. Unlike some of his friends, Teddy was more open to talking about feelings and things, and trying to see it from the other point of view. That isn’t to say that all men are jerks and don’t do that, just that a lot of Teddy’s friends have that teenage mindset of not even bothering to understand girls. He could understand why though, girls were complicated. But so were boys, not that any of them would admit that fact right off the bat. No, they liked to have people think they were as simple to understand as a cave man. While some of them did communicate like that, it wasn’t really the case. Especially for those young men going through puberty. It was such a complicated time for everyone involved really.
Handing Tessa the pile of DVD’s, Teddy smiled. “I got the one miss gorgeous eyes here suggested, and a few others. Mostly Kung Fu. Jackie Chan, some Karate Kid, that sort of thing.” He nodded, proud of the movies he had collected. “There should be something in there that suits.” Picking up Lily’s member card, he looked down at it, before swiping it. “Lily. Huh, Nice name.” He gave her a small smile as he started swiping her movies once more. “You know, we have a special deal on right now. Five movies for five dollars. It’s really good value, you should both really consider it.” He looked up expectantly at Lily, waiting for her to choose if she was going to hire a few extra moves to save some money or not. He would, if he was in the situation, but that was just him, Not everyone though that way.

- - - - - - - - - - - - Lily laughed, “in Disney films, my taste is spectacular,” she explained, “you can’t go wrong there,” smiling at the girl, Lily nodded, the brunette had a nice smile, she was very pretty, but it was obvious she was extremely shy. The blonde sighed to herself. She’d been there. She’d been so scared to speak, incase what she had said was wrong, or stupid, or people would laugh at her. She was still scared about being laughed at, but she was working on her painful shyness. And was getting better. A lot better than what she used to be. Her music paid a large part in that. She was able to just get lost in the chords or her guitar and the words she was singing.
She’d started off performing covers for her Grandpa, when he had parties and things, then he pushed her to participate in various talent shows and things. Doing covers was easier in the sense that she could act someone else, pretend to be someone different; someone more confident. It was when she wrote her first song that she felt real fear performing. Here she couldn’t hide behind someone else’s words, they were hers. And everyone knew it. It was her Grandpa, again, who made her do it. Said it would be good for her, and she’d thank him after. And she did. Everytime she picked up her guitar she thought of him. She knew that if it wasn’t for the music she wrote, and her grandpa forcing her out there, that she would still be that same girl. Yes, she was still shy, she still felt stupid and annoying when she spoke, she still sat in corners in café’s and libraries to stay out of the way, she still struggled to make friends for fear of being annoying. But she was that little more comfortable in being herself, she held her head that little bit higher. It was only a little change, but it made a big difference to her.
Lily laughed again at the comment about emptying her bag, “yeah, I probably should, but then where’s the fun in that? And besides You never know when you might need a receipt from,” picking one at random, “September, wow I really need to empty this thing,” Screwing the receipt and putting it back in the back, Lily reached over and took hold of her hand shaking it, opening her mouth to reply she jumped hearing the boys voice. When did he get back? Her smile faded slightly at his story, “aw no, that’s so sad,” she said. Keeping quiet for a few minutes as he spoke about the movies he had selected for the brunette Tessa. Her cheeks stained a furious red and her gaze dropped to the floor at the nickname he had given her; ‘gorgeous eyes’. That was one thing she had never been able to get over; compliments. She never took them well. She didn’t get offended, or argue about them. She just never believed them, never knew what to say to them, and so never felt she responded correctly. She just blushed looked at the floor and went all coy. And apparently he wasn’t done. “Thannks,” she muttered risking looking back at the guy, “I kinda hate it... It’s soo bleh.”
An offer, huh? Lily looked back down at her pile of three DVDs “oh, erm, you seem good at this, can you think of anything that will go with Disney and cannibalism?” She asked both him and Tessa, glad the conversation had moved to a safer topic than her eyes and name.

D E E P I N M Y S O U L ( that love never lasts )
Looking over at the blonde, Tess managed a smile. Her own bag had never been that messy, probably because she just didn’t have a scattered mind. That could, of course, be owed to her father. He was usually all over the place and Tess found that it was her duty to make sure that everything at home was tidy and all deadlines were met. Being both a mother and a daughter would often drive people crazy but, for some reason, Tessa was just used to it. Her whole life had been spent with only her father. While she often missed her mother, thinking of everything that her parents had been through simply made her dislike her mother even more. That whole idea of people actually loving each other, only to have it all crushed with some stupid mistake, was one thing that Tessa was completely opposed to. She blamed the failure of her parents’ marriage on the fake existence of love. Because that’s what love is, fake.
The return of the boy broke Tessa out of her reverie and she turned to him instead. Taking the DVDs from him, she flipped through them, a smile curling up the corners of her lips. “I’m sure these will do fine,” she murmured, looking back up at him. She could almost sense the flirting that was moving from movie boy to the blonde girl and the atmosphere was screaming at her to escape. But for some reason, she could not find a way out of this one. Usually she had some form of escape route planned out; there was always a need to leave. But now? Now she had nothing. She felt like telling the pair that there was no point in that stupid courting ritual, that it would always end in broken hearts and pain. Of course, they were practically strangers and so, Tessa tried to calm herself down, and held her tongue.
Lily. It was a nice name. It suited the young blonde quite well, much like the way the name orange suits that bright coloured fruit. “You shouldn’t,” Tessa said to the girl, speaking out again. It felt weird, just kind of, talking. Usually she was quiet, reserved. Silent was probably a better way to describe it. But now she was actually talking, and not just to answer questions a teacher was throwing at her. “I think it’s nice.” A smile managed to crawl across the brunette’s features as she regarded movie boy and, Lily. “And I’m not the best at movie choices,” she added, in regards to Lily’s question.
Whilst movie boy was a nice nickname, Tessa realised that it would be better to know the boy’s real name. As far as she knew, they had been perhaps a year apart at school. He had played guitar too and had a nice voice from what she remembered. Sadly, they had never really spoken, until now. “Now, you,” she murmured, pointing a relaxed finger at movie boy. “I’ve seen you around, but I don’t think I ever caught your name.” Tessa was not sure she had ever spoken that many words in one hit before. Obviously that day was becoming a day of firsts. Her father would certainly be proud of her. It wasn’t every day your child got over their social awkwardness and fear.

Teddy frowned slightly, tutting. Lily was a gorgeous name. So delicate and pretty, just like its floral name sake. This blonde sweetheart was just being way too hard on herself, Teddy was sure of it. A lot of girls seemed to do that- refuse to accept the good about themselves. It made Teddy a little sad really. To see all these amazing young women beating themselves up because they couldn’t see how great they were. That was why Teddy was always so ready to compliment the females in his life, just so they knew that they were wonderful. It seemed that these two girls needed a heavy dose of how awesome they were, because it didn’t seem like either of them were aware of it. “She’s right.” He nodded, throwing Tessa a smile before looking back at Lily. “You should embrace your name, because we think it’s perfect. And really nice, okay?” He nodded once more as if that settled the matter. Which it did in his mind. She should just accept that it was a really nice name and not fight it. In fact, she needed to accept the other complements too, but that was a point to push at another time.
“Wow..” He clicked his tongue a few times. Rubbing the back of his neck. It was pressure trying to complete her perfect set of film choices. He loved movies, sure, but he always felt a little nervous. Worrying if his taste in things was way off what most people would even consider watching. Which was always possible. He was a little off-beat. Which he liked about himself most of the time, but it did make it hard to relate with some people when he had such eclectic tastes in things. Though, from what he saw already, Lily was on his wave length to some degree. “You could go the obvious choice.” He started, scratching his neck once more. “And get one of the other Hannibal movies, which would make four. Then for the fifth..” He paused again to think. “I’d go with the themes and take another Disney. However you don’t want one of the typical princess ones. You’ve got a more action based Disney theme going, so I’d go for maybe The Great Mouse Detective. It’s always been one of my favourites.” It was true, as a child he had watched it in repeat for hours on end. Or well, until his mother couldn’t stand it anymore and made him go outside to play.
Completely surprised by Tessa’s sudden addressing him. Turning from Lily, his eyes widened in surprise and he offered her a large grin. He was actually a little proud of her. Even if he didn’t know her that well, he still thought she was coming along in leaps and bounds tonight. “Oh how rude. I haven’t even introduced myself. I’m Teddy.” He spoke playfully, still grinning at Tessa. “And you’re Tessa. I remember from school. Not that I’m a stalker, just have a good memory.” He smirked sheepishly, it probably seemed odd that he knew her name, but he just had the mind for things like that. “And if I remember rightly, you are a pretty talented musician. Do you still play? Or was it just a school thing?” He cocked his head, watching her. Genuinely curious about it. He was always a genuine sort of person. If he didn’t want to know something he wasn’t going to ask the question. He was almost always interested though, so that wasn’t a problem.
