-- POPPY CAROLINE GARLAND !
-- NAME: Poppy Caroline Garland -- NICKNAMES: pop, poppy, garland, landy etc. -- AGE & BIRTHDAY:nineteen, September 25th -- BIRTH PLACE: Portland, Oregon -- ORIENTATION: heterosexual -- OCCUPATION & SCHOOL GRADE: majoring in science and minoring in psychology, working at a comic book store -- PLAYED BY: emma stone
-- PERSONALITY !
--GOOFY/QUIRKY: They kind of go hand and hand with her. All her life Poppy has been a bit different, she’s never been like everyone else at school. She’s always been really goofy sometimes even without trying, when she’s around people she trusts she’s always making them laugh and always ready to be a dork. The only problem is most don’t get to see the lovely dorky goofy girl she is because she’s actually very stand offish and shy. Most people just think she’s strange. Along with her goofiness comes her quirky side, she snorts when she laughs and spontaneously breaks out into oldies dance moves when there’s no music and she makes popping sounds with her mouth when she’s looking for things.
-- INSECURE: Poppy’s never been a confident girl, she’s tried while never succeeding; she’s just never been able to “fit in”. Though she’s comfortable with her family and very close friends, she doesn’t feel she can be herself around people who don’t know her and don’t know how she grew up and what she’s gone through. She’s not the type to jump into any situation and just be one hundred percent herself. It’s not that she thinks she’s ugly or even unlikeable, she just doesn’t think she’s the type of person that lights up someone’s world with a smile or that can just make someone’s day better just because she’s there for them, however she’ll always be there for people when they do need her.
-- INTELLIGENT: No one questions that she’s a smart girl, ever since she was young she was always getting really good grades. Applying herself in school was never a struggle for her, because learning was always exciting to her. She may not be a genius, but there’s no doubt that she’s intelligent. Poppy’s not only scholastically smart, but she’s also smart when it comes to the world, she’s not naïve and she can’t have things pulled over on her very much of the time. Not one to be wooed into bed just because a guy says she’s pretty or says he loves her.
-- LOVES: video games, comic books, music, coffee, ice cream, rain (thunder, lightning), writing, drawing, movies, swing sets, vintage, the 40's, 50's and early 60's era, color, black licorice.
-- HATES: doctors, divas, hypocrites, sappy things, dumb, dull or whiney (all of the above is the worst), sunburns, general stupidity, parking meters, forgetting, her fears
-- HISTORY !
Poppy Caroline Garland was born to two women via sperm donor. Growing up with two moms was weird to say the least and she always wished that she knew what it felt like to have a dad. Not that she didn’t love both her mothers, because she did. It just always felt like something was missing, she didn’t have the solid male figure in her life, she didn’t know what to expect from men in general. When she was around the age of ten she sat her parents down and told them she knew it would probably hurt them and that it shouldn’t, but she wanted to contact her sperm donor, but she couldn’t do it without their permission. Her mother Helen was completely against it, but her mother Anna felt that if it was something Poppy felt she needed to do, they should let her. Reluctantly agreeing they both gave her permission to contact her father.
The next year she met Mars and the two really hit it off, they were so much alike; the clicked really easily and Poppy was comfortable with him fairly quickly. At that time her mothers were struggling in their marriage and Anna and Mars began to have an affair. Then something strainge happened they fell for each other. Helen and Anna decided to get a divorce when Poppy was thirteen and Helen disappeared completely, just out of all of their lives including Poppy’s. Needless to say she felt abandoned by her mother and even though she was about to have the family she had always been curious about, she was mad that her mother had just left her.
When Poppy hit high school her awkward steak seemed to blow up, everyone just seemed to think she was this awkward weirdo and she became the center of the ridicule at her school, at least it felt that way to her. She had one friend that she loved with all her heart and they were really two peas in a pod, Jack made all the ridicule bearable. Poppy turned sixteen and lost her virginity to her best friend. Ten days later he killed himself, it was an event that rocked her world in the worst way possible. Not only did she lose her best friend, but she was left wondering if she could have done something; she knew he chose to leave her and that was heart breaking.
In her final years of high school she got through them as best she could, but she’d lost her support, so she sat her parents down again and asked them if she could be home school, that she couldn’t take anymore at school. They agreed and she finished her junior and senior year at home, she didn’t go to prom or home coming or engage in any of the rites of passage that most kids have, she didn’t even have a graduation ceremony. College was different, people didn’t make fun of her, but they didn’t seem to know she existed. Though Poppy isn’t the most outgoing type she’s always nice to people who talk to her, she smiles at people as they pass her on the street. she dreams of working in the comic book feild, but doesn't think she has the talent to make it (even though she does).
