Sophie hated leaving her daughter. The day Holly was born, Sophie’s whole world changed and everything became about Holly. Of course, she still cares very deeply for other people and goes out of her way to help them. However her daughter comes first in everything. So it was natural she felt a little guilty every time she left Holly with someone else so she could have time for herself. It wasn’t very often really, but she knew that occasionally she needed to just let Holly be with someone else, for the good of both of them. Sophie didn’t even want to consider what was going to happen in a few years time when her little girl started school. She was going to be a complete wreck on that first day, leaving her baby girl with someone for a whole day. She really should be getting them both used to it as early as possible, but she just hated being away from Holly. The little girl was fine with other people. Holly was precocious, but really friendly and often sweet, and she bonded with people quickly, so Sophie didn’t worry that her daughter would be distressed. It was Sophie that was more upset.
However, today she had no choice but to leave Holly with someone for at least a few hours. The little muffin wasn’t feeling very well, and Sophie didn’t want to take her out in case she’d gotten worse. Which was fair enough. The problem was, she had plans with her mother and also had to do the groceries. When Soph had wrong her mother to change the plans, the woman had told her to see if the sitter could come to look after Holly. That wasn’t really an idea that appealed to Sophie at all, leaving her sick child with someone else, but her mother had insisted, and promised it would only be a few hours. So that was that. By luck, the part time Nanny they had was free, and Sophie had reluctantly left her daughter at home while she went out to the shops to help her mother pick out her father’s birthday gift, then do the food shopping she needed to do. It really turned out to be the best thing for everyone, because it meant Sophie could take her time doing the groceries, and getting Holly some cold and flu medication and cough syrup without worrying too much.
She was anxious to get home though and see her little girl. So after a quick Coffee at her mother’s after the shopping was done while she dropped the older woman home, Sophie was on her way. Getting into the car, she sent a quick text to Gigi, just to let her know she was on the way, and that she had brought some sticky buns at the store if she wanted to stay for a coffee. Once the text was sent, the phone was placed in the centre console and Sophie started the car. It was only a short drive from her childhood home on a horse stable to the small three bedroom house she lived in now. About ten minutes or so. Driving up in the drive-way, Sophie smiled. Part of her was hoping Holly was asleep, because sleep would help her. However, the rest of her was hoping she was awake so she could have a big cuddle. Parking the car, she got out and loaded her arms with as much as she could carry, walking up the steps and onto the porch. Unlocking the front door and letting herself in. “I’m home!” She called to either Holly or Gigi, as she made her way into the kitchen.
