The world is at war.
When the Russians and the Germans formed the Nazi-Soviet Pact it was the first in a series of steps towards the eventual destruction and redistribution of Europe. Their union, unbroken until disputes over the invasion of Britain saw the fall and bisection of Poland and France. But two years ago the war took a turn which saw the allies turn against one another. Stalin’s invasion of Britain, against predetermined arrangements with Hitler plunged Europe into a fresh war. A war built not upon desire for expansion, but on desire for revenge. Germany turned on the Russian quarters of Poland and France, taking them easily and leaving the newly established Soviet Britain surrounded.
The country faces the rise of a new government, the old one toppled by Soviet command. The old leaders, the Prime Minister and the Monarchy have fled, leaving the remaining pillars of British capitalism to the bloodthirsty hands of the USSR.
Once the gunfire subsided, Britain played host to frequent public executions; the Soviets had a point to make and they did so using gallows and firing squads. What remained of the British government was lost to this practise; The Party had taken control. From this point, it did not take long for a new system to emerge: Ministries began to regulate all aspects of life in Britain under the banner of the Soviet Republic of Britain, a sub-sector of the broader USSR. Censorship and surveillance fought to drain and replace Old British values. The Ministry of Disinformation began wiping out subversives. Soldiers were billeted into the homes of innocent civilians.
Meanwhile, under the watchful eye of this new regime, the lives of normal Britons continue. Most are bound to a ministry, others find themselves tied into one or other of the Party’s myriad new initiatives. For those trapped in this ‘ideologically perfect’ system, their fears of The Red Threat manifested, war edging in at every corner, it’s only a matter of time before the cracks start to show...
